A man is accused of attacking a priest, pouring wine on his head and spraying a can of compressed air into his mouth.

Employees at Resurrection Parish in Wilmington, Delaware, told police they heard the suspect arguing with Reverend William Graney inside his office Monday. They then heard what sounded like a struggle.

When the employees entered the office they found the suspect repeatedly punching and kicking Father Graney in the stomach and face while he was lying on the floor, police said.

The church employees tried to break up the fight but the suspect pushed them aside, went into another room and grabbed a bottle of wine, according to investigators. He then allegedly poured the wine over Father Graney, struck him over the head with the bottle and then grabbed a can of compressed air and sprayed it into his mouth.

The employees told police they lured the suspect out of the church by telling him they would give him a ride and money. Once the suspect was outside, they locked the front door of the church. The suspect struck the door multiple times to get back in but couldn’t break through, police said. Officers then arrived at the scene.

Father Graney was taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment. He is in stable condition. The suspect and a parish staff member were also treated for minor injuries. The suspect was then taken into police custody. They have not yet revealed his identity.

Parish offices at the church as well as daily masses are canceled until further notice.

Don’t hang the raincoat up just yet! Another rainy week is upon us with passing thunderstorms and showers a possibility throughout the region into the weekend.

The chance of thunderstorms and localized flooding picks up after Monday, and humidity will reach uncomfortable levels in between on-and-off storms this week.

“Tuesday through Friday will feature tropical humidity and scattered heavy, drenching t-storms," First Alert meteorologist Steve Sosna said. "While the weather will not be raining the entire time, any of these thunderstorms can produce torrential downpours and localized street and highway flooding."

Temperatures are expected to reach the middle 80s throughout the week with a 60 percent chance of rain Wednesday through Friday.

The expected storms and showers comes just a week after heavy rain and flooding hit a 100 -mile area of Pennsylvania causing two deaths and forcing Hersheypark and Knoebels park to shut down.

Don't Recognize the Number? NJ Is Getting New Area Code

From the Jersey shore to Central Jersey, phone calls just got a bit more complicated due to the introduction of a new area code and dialing procedures.

A number of changes are coming to New Jersey’s phone services to ensure a continuing supply of telephone numbers including 10-digit dialing and a new 640 area code.

The 640 area code will be assigned to new customers in the same New Jersey region currently using the 609 area code beginning on Sept. 17. The region runs from Cape May along the Jersey shore up to Trenton and its surrounding communities in the central part of the state.

[[489635811, C]]

The process, known as an area code overlay, does not require customers to change their existing phone number, but does require them to dial the area code and the seven-digit telephone number on calls within the same area code.

This means that all calls within the 609 area code that are currently dialed with seven digits will need to be dialed with 10 digits using the area code and phone number format starting Aug. 18.

[[489630011, C]]

In addition, the State of New Jersey Board of Public Utilities added a similar measure for South Jersey’s 856 area code. The new dialing procedure requires the inclusion the 1 plus the area code for calls between the 609/640 and 856 area codes.

However calls within the 856 region can still connect using a seven-digit phone number without the area code, the BPU said.

The BPU reminds phone users that their current number and area code won't change and that a current local call will still count as a local call no matter the local area code used.

Police Arrest Man Accused of Attacking Librarian

Police arrested a man accused of attacking a librarian and breaking her back while robbing a library in Darby Borough, Pennsylvania.

Terrell Carter, 40, was taken into custody Tuesday.

Carter, who is homeless, entered the Darby Free Library back on July 12 and snatched a donation jar, police said. Librarian Joyce Anderson Taylor, 60, had just arrived at the library with her 6-year-old great grandson.

Carter allegedly grabbed Taylor, threw her down several steps and trampled her, fracturing her back and lower body in five places.

“He was determined,” Taylor said. "He was getting out with that jug one way or another."

Taylor said her great grandson witnessed the attack.

“That was traumatizing to him because this is a place he loves to come to,” she said. “It was just unfortunate.”

Taylor was hospitalized for two weeks after the attack. She was released from the hospital on July 25, a day after undergoing back surgery.

Taylor said she had seen Carter at the library before but had never had any problems with him prior to July 12.

“I think I was just at the right place at the wrong time,” she said. “I was a distraction to him.”

Investigators received several leads from the public that helped them find Carter, according to Darby Borough Police Chief Robert Smythe.

"People that hurt seniors or children are just bad people," Smythe said. "And this guy was a bad person and he needed to be off the street before someone was seriously injured."
