The murder charge against a college student arrested in the deadly stabbing of a Philadelphia real estate developer is expected to be downgraded, according to law enforcement sources.

The murder charge against Michael White will be downgraded from 1st degree to 3rd degree during a hearing Wednesday morning, sources told NBC10. A 3rd-degree murder charge carries a possible maximum sentence of 20 to 40 years while a 1st-degree murder charge carries a maximum sentence of mandatory life in prison.

Aside from the downgraded murder charge, prosecutors will proceed with the voluntary manslaughter and possession of an instrument of crime charges against White, sources said.

Earlier this month, White, who turned 21 years old while in prison, surrendered to police in connection to the death of 37-year-old Sean Schellenger.

Schellenger and two friends were driving in a Mercedes-Benz when a confrontation with White ensued near 17th and Chancellor streets in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse neighborhood on July 12, police said. White pulled a knife from his backpack and stabbed Schellenger, according to investigators.

White, a student at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, was making a food delivery on a bicycle at the time of the altercation, police said.

Greg Thompson, a spokesman for White's family, said he acted in self-defense and kept a knife in his backpack for protection because he delivered food late into the night.

A day after the stabbing, White walked out of True Gospel Tabernacle Family Church in South Philadelphia and turned himself in to police.

"Whether they reduce the charge, give him no charge, it's not going to bring Sean back," Patricia Strickland, Schellenger's friend, told NBC10. "He took away something valuable that he could not give back."

Police are searching for three men who are accused of robbing three Burlington County, New Jersey, 7-Eleven stores over the span of four days.

The first robbery occurred Thursday around 2:30 a.m. at the 7-Eleven on the 1100 block of Cooper Street in Edgewater Park.

They continued on Saturday around 3 a.m. at a 7-Eleven on the 1600 block of Columbus Road in Burlington Township and Sunday around 1 a.m. at the 7-Eleven on 18 Haines Mill Road in Delran, New Jersey.

The suspects covered their faces during the robberies as they entered the stores together, police said.

“As soon as they come through the door they are pointing firearms directly at the clerk and demanding money,” Burlington Township Police detective Mike Casella said. “They go behind the clerk counter where they remove the cash drawer and cigarettes.”

The three men work quickly. One of the robberies only took 45 seconds, according to investigators.

The robbery on Sunday morning was disrupted when a customer pulled into the parking lot. When they saw the car, the men fired at least two gunshots into the air and fled, police said.

The three men wore the same clothes during the robberies, according to investigators.

Surveillance video shows that one suspect wore an American flag t-shirt with a black hood covering his face, another wore a black hooded Jack Daniels sweatshirt with a black mask over his face, and the third wore a white t-shirt with a red hood over his face.

Police from the three towns have set up patrols at the three convenience stores. They warn that the suspects are dangerous, especially since they are reported to have fired off shots at the last robbery.

“Don’t resist. Don’t fight them. Let them take whatever it is they are trying to take,” Casella said.

If you have any information on the robberies, please call Burlington Township Police.

When you're DJ Khaled, you can't just get one cheesesteak while visiting Philly. You have to get "another one."

The DJ, record producer, label executive and radio personality stopped by both Max's Steaks and Geno’s Steaks Monday night. Khaled was in town for Beyoncé and Jay-Z's "On the Run II" tour which stopped at Lincoln Financial Field.

After the concert, he rolled up to both Max's and Geno’s in his custom white Maybach Landaulet.

He posed for photos with fans and staff at both spots and ended up treating himself to a “Whiz With” sandwich at Geno's.

We can't blame Khaled for treating himself to two Philly spots in one night. When it comes to cheesesteaks, "we the best."

Police arrested a man accused of shooting and killing a woman who was inside a van with five other people, including three children, in the Ogontz section of Philadelphia earlier this year.

Timothy Barnes, 33, of Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with murder and other related offenses.

On Feb. 21, police were called to the 5700 block of North Broad Street. When they arrived they found Tyisha Timmons, 23, slumped over in the driver's seat of a white Dodge van that had crashed into a building.

Simmons had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and hip. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

At least five gunshots struck the driver's side of the van.

Simmons' five passengers, two women in their 20s, and two girls and a boy between the ages of 2 and 6, were also hurt in the crash though police say none of them were shot. The five passengers were treated for their injuries.

Police initially said two men in gray hoodies were seen fleeing the scene after the shooting. They have not yet revealed if they are searching for a second suspect with Barnes now in custody.

Timmons' uncle Horace Timmons, told NBC10 the victim's twin sister as well as her niece and nephew were all passengers in the van at the time of the shooting.

"She's a bright young lady," Timmons said. "Graduated with honors from high school. Was currently working for the school board and UPS. She had two jobs. She was about to move into her own place. Conscientious. Goodhearted. Didn't deserve for this to happen to her."

Police initially said after Timmons' death they did not believe the van was targeted or that it was a case of road rage. After Barnes' arrest, they did not reveal a possible motive or if Timmons was the intended target.

Amid myriad options in the greater Philadelphia region, Anthony Bourdain once said Donkey's Place made his favorite cheesesteak.

Turns out the Camden, New Jersey, steak joint has had the time to perfect its version of the much-debated sandwich.

Donkey’s Place celebrated its 75th anniversary Tuesday. Camden officials honored the owner Robert Lucas Jr. by giving him a key to the city.

The restaurant, which has three locations in the city, marked the occasion with a special celebration and ceremony in Roosevelt Plaza Park.

While the restaurant has gained more and more attention over the years, one thing that won’t change is its recipe.

“The cheesesteak recipe has stayed the same these 75 years,” Robert Lucas Jr., the owner of Donkey’s Place, said. “The international exposure keeps growing and with it the lines.”

Bourdain brought the restaurant that worldwide acclaim in 2015 when he cited it as the best place in the region to get a Philly cheesesteak in an episode of his show “Parts Unknown.” Locals, however, have known about Donkey's for years.

“I remember growing up as a kid we were always walking down Haddon Avenue to go get the steaks,” said Wanda Garcia, a long-time customer.

Camden’s Mayor Frank Moran also proclaimed July 31 “Donkey’s Day” to recognize the restaurant’s commitment to the community.

“[They] stayed here when everyone else left 40 years ago,” Moran said. “They stayed here and are flourishing.”

Donkey’s Place plans to remain in Camden for many years to come.

“We’re looking for another 75 years,” Lucas said. “Make it 150.”

As for the restaurant’s reputation for serving the best local cheesesteak, Lucas invited future visitors to try the acclaimed sandwich for themselves before deciding whether they’ve earned the title.

“They say the best cheesesteak in Philly is actually in New Jersey,” Lucas said. “You have to drive across the bridge and find out for yourself.”

Rittenhouse Slaying Suspect Gets Reduced Murder Charge, Bail

The murder charge against Michael White, a college student arrested for allegedly stabbing Philadelphia real estate developer Sean Schellenger to death last month, was downgraded to a third-degree offense and his bail was set at a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

White, 21, is expected to post bond on $150,000 bail and be released in the coming days to the custody of his family. He previously was held without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 30, according to court records.

A third-degree murder charge carries a possible maximum sentence of 20 to 40 years. Prosecutors will proceed with the voluntary manslaughter and possession of an instrument of crime charges against White.

Schellenger and two friends were driving in a Mercedes-Benz when a confrontation with White occurred near 17th and Chancellor streets in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse neighborhood in the late evening July 12, police said. White pulled a knife from his backpack and stabbed Schellenger, according to investigators.

Schellenger and two friends had been drinking at a nearby bar prior to the alleged deadly confrontation, according to witnesses.

At a meeting with prosecutors last week, according to officials, White allegedly told investigators where to find the knife.

It remains unknown what exactly triggered the alleged incident.

District Attorney Larry Krasner, who was in the Center City courtroom where White's hearing was held, talked twice with Schellenger's mother prior to the hearing.

White will be placed on house arrest, with electronic monitoring, when he posts bail, according to conditions imposed by the court.

A day after the stabbing, White walked out of True Gospel Tabernacle Family Church in South Philadelphia and turned himself in to police.

"Whether they reduce the charge, give him no charge, it's not going to bring Sean back," Patricia Strickland, Schellenger's friend, told NBC10 prior to the hearing Wednesday. "He took away something valuable that he could not give back."
