An elevator accident at a once iconic Center City Philadelphia store left three people hospitalized Friday morning.
A freight elevator inside the former Strawbridge and Clothier building at 810 Filbert Street suddenly dropped around 10:40 a.m., according to Philadelphia firefighters.
Fire Department Executive Chief Peter Crespo said witnesses told firefighters that the elevator dropped about 10 to 15 feet and the doors wouldn’t open.
The group got themselves out of the broken elevator, said Crespo.
All three people suffered minor injuries that required treatment at Jefferson University Hospital.
City Licensees and Inspections investigated why the elevator failed.
