A break in a 36-inch water main spilled water down a North Philly street, damaging at least three properties and creating a large hole in the road.

The break happened around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, spilling water down Master Street between 25th and 26th streets and forcing authorities to close the road to traffic.

The Philadelphia Water Department shut the main off around midnight, according to  a PWD spokesman.

No customers are without water, but residents in the area should expect to experience low pressure, the spokesman said.

The roads will remain closed overnight and crews will return to repair the main in the morning.

PWD found two homes and one business in the area sustained water damage.

Crews will continue to check if other properties were affected by the water.

The crash that critically injured Tracy Morgan also killed a comedian who some are remembering as a friend and mentor to the "30 Rock" star.

James McNair, known on the comedy circuit as "Jimmy Mack," died in the six-vehicle crash Saturday along the New Jersey Turnpike that sent Morgan and two others to the hospital in critical condition.

Morgan's ex-wife, Sabina Morgan, told the Daily News that the two had a long history together.

"He was one of the first comedians that took Tracy under his wing," she said of the 62-year-old Westchester resident. "They were very close."

Even after Morgan's career exploded, the two would sometimes work together, The Journal News reported.

"Him and Tracy stayed really close," McNair's friend Glenn Cook told the newspaper. "When Tracy calls, (McNair) drops everything and goes."

McNair was known in his hometown of Peekskill as a frequent volunteer who was very involved with his church.

"I know how he loved comedy, how he loved community, how much he did for the community," Cook said. "He helped just about everybody."

He also helped care for his sister, who has cancer, Donna Besterio, head of the Caring for the Homeless of Peekskill, told The Journal News.

Tracy Morgan "More Responsive" After Surgery: Spokesman

Former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Tracy Morgan remains in critical condition, but has been improving following Saturday's deadly six-car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike that left two others critically injured and another man dead.

The 45-year-old actor and comedian was "more responsive" Sunday after having surgery for a broken leg, spokesman Lewis Kay said in a statement.

"While Tracy remains in critical condition, he has been more responsive today, which is an incredibly encouraging sign," Kay said.

Kay said that Morgan, who was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, sustained a broken femur, broken nose and several broken ribs and is expected to remain hospitalized for "several weeks." He said that the comedian's family is "tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans."

Morgan was traveling with six other people -- two limo bus drivers and four friends -- after a stand-up show at Dover Downs Casino in Dover, Delaware on Friday evening.

Kevin Roper, 35, was driving a Walmart big rig on the turnpike when he failed to notice traffic slowing down in front of him. Roper smashed into the back of the the limo that Morgan was riding in, killing comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair, authorities said.

The force of the collision flipped the limo bus, sending it sliding into several other vehicles.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by NBC News, Roper hadn't slept for more than 24 hours at the time of the crash.

The crash happened about 15 miles north of Trenton near Exit 8A of the Turnpike in Cranbury, N.J.

Limo driver Tyrone Gale said it was a "great day turned tragic in seconds."

"I was face down on the asphalt. It was unreal. I didn't know what happened. Shattered glass and things like that. It all happened so fast," he told NBC10.com after being released from the hospital on Saturday.

Walmart President and CEO Bill Simon expressed his sympathies to the victims of the crash.

"The facts are continuing to unfold. If it's determined that our truck caused the accident, Walmart will take full responsibility," Simon said.

Roper, of Jonesboro, Georgia, was charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto, Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release. Roper, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in to state police. He was released on $50,000 bail Saturday night.

Fans and celebrities took to social media and posted messages using the hashtag #PrayersForTracyMorgan to offer their support to Morgan.

Fellow travelers Jeffrey Millea, of Shelton, Connecticut, and comedian Ardie Fuqua Jr. were listed in critical condition along with Morgan at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Zenaida Mendez said Sunday, The Associated Press reported. Another comedian, Harris Stanton, was treated and released from the hospital Saturday.

Roper is expected to appear in court Monday.

Be Warned: I-95 Project to Begin

Enjoy your drive Monday up Interstate 95 in the Port Richmond and Fishtown sections of Philadelphia because a huge construction project is set to get underway overnight.

The second largest project in PennDOT’s history is set to improve and widen a 3-mile stretch of northbound I-95 from Race Street to Allegheny Avenue.

The next wave of the $211.7 million project begins Monday at 10 p.m. as crews repaint three lanes in an attempt to keep traffic flowing along the 1.5-mile stretch between the Girard and Allegheny Avenue interchanges.

The project starting Tuesday focuses specifically on rebuilding the ramps on the Girard Avenue Interchange while replacing two bridges and adding new signage and retaining walls.

Crews are set to work from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each weeknight this week and PennDOT warns motorists to expect possible lane closures and slowdowns during those overnight hours.

PennDOT officials say the large project, set to wrap up in 2018, will help add an entire lane and improve the deteriorating roadway.

“The rebuilding and widening of the northbound side of I-95 is another step forward in our plan to address the structural deterioration of this aging highway and to add a fourth through lane in each direction to enhance traffic flow and safety on this critical artery,” PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso said.

General Contractor James J. Anderson Construction Co., Inc. of Philadelphia is carrying out the 100-percent federally funded project.

Starting next week, changes will be made to southbound lanes of I-95.
