VP Pence Leaves NFL Game After Players Protest During Anthem: Vice President Mike Pence left the 49ers-Colts game after about a dozen San Francisco players took a knee during the national anthem Sunday, the latest move by President Donald Trump's administration to clash with NFL players over patriotism and public demonstrations. The former Indiana governor flew in so he could watch Peyton Manning's jersey retirement ceremony. Pence didn't stick around long. Right around kickoff, Pence wrote on Twitter: "I left today's Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem.” The White House also issued a statement from Pence, in which he said Americans should rally around the flag. Pence said: "I don't think it's too much to ask NFL players to respect the Flag and our National Anthem.” Trump has called on NFL owners to fire players who don't stand for the anthem and urged fans to boycott games in a series of tweets after he first criticized the demonstrations during a Sept. 22 rally in Alabama. White House officials have viewed it as a winning issue for the president, who has sought to remain closely connected to his working-class base of Midwestern voters who helped elect him in 2016.

Out for her morning walk to get coffee, an 85-year-old woman was hit by a driver on the 8000 block of Pine Road in the Fox Chase neighborhood of North Philadelphia early Monday morning.

Mabel Stottler was taken to a local hospital and treated for fractures in both legs, police said. She is in critical condition.

Friends of the 85-year-old told NBC10 she was out doing what she does every morning - going to Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast.

"She comes real early and I noticed she wasn't here," Juanita Darden, Stottler's friend, said while sipping coffee and blinking back tears. "She was a good person - keep me laughing, keep me up."

Her walker remained on the sidewalk as police attempted to piece together what happened.

The driver, 24, stopped a few feet away from the point of impact and called officials after the accident. He told them he hit a deer, but later realized it was an elderly woman.

Police are investigating whether the driver was intoxicated while driving.

Bucks Co. Deputy Sheriff Exposes Himself to Woman: Police

A Bucks County deputy sheriff who allegedly masturbated in a public parking lot and attempted to show a woman pornography has been charged with indecent exposure and related offenses, police said.

He is facing three counts of indecent exposure, open lewdness and disorderly conduct.

Deputy Stephen R. Springfield was off-duty last Tuesday when a woman says she spotted the 39-year-old sitting in his red truck near Silver Lake Park in Bristol, Pennsylvania. She told NBC10 in an exclusive interview that Springfield first offered her candy. She then says she noticed he was watching pornography on his phone.

"That's when he was holding up his camera that's on his phone or whatever playing pornography and he had himself exposed," said the woman, who did not want to be identified.

The woman told investigators that Springfield jiggled a bag of candies in her direction and offered her some as she walked near his car. She says she declined several offers and that Springfield then pulled out his penis and began to masturbate while asking if she, too, liked porn.

"And he was asking me if I wanted to come in his truck with him and watch porn," the woman said. "And I said no and I got in the car and I left."

The woman said she saw Springfield in the park the next day and told him to “beat it” and “not come back.” The woman also said she noticed Springfield talking to a young boy and advised him to stay away from the red truck.

The woman told investigators she saw Springfield again at the park two days later. She says she then used her phone to take pictures of his license plate as Springfield "high-tailed it out of there." The woman sent the pictures to police who identified Springfield as the suspect.

"It's a family park," the woman said. "It should be welcoming and safe. Unfortunately we have this guy there that just felt that he needed to do what he wanted to do."

Police were again called to the same park on Saturday for reports of Springfield exposing himself. A park ranger told officials Springfield was a regular at the park and had harassed a woman with suggestive comments about pornography, according to court records.

When investigators asked Springfield to explain the allegations, he initially told police that he was urinating in a bottle. After some pressing, Springfield said he had been “excited” after watching porn on his phone, according to court documents.

Bucks County detectives continue to investigate the allegations against Springfield and did not confirm if he is still employed with the sheriff's department.

Springfield's attorney, Lou Busico, told NBC10 there wasn't enough information available to determine whether or not his client performed a lewd act.

"Look, that's what the allegation is at this point in time," Busico said. "Until we know more, it's an impossible question to answer."

Busico said the court documents accusing his client are confusing and that Springfield is innocent until proven guilty.

"The fact that he was there in a public place sitting in his own vehicle alone, that in itself is not the end of the world," Busico said. "Let's wait and see exactly who saw what, where and how."

All Monroe Twp. Schools Closed After Mold is Found

All schools in the Monroe Township School District will be closed for the rest of the week after mold was discovered in one of the elementary schools. The rest of the schools in the district will be subject to indoor air quality testing. The district is made up of the following schools:

        • Holly Glen Elementary School (K-4)
        • Oak Knoll Elementary School (K-4)
        • Radix Elementary School (K-4)
        • Whitehall Elementary School (K-4)
        • Williamstown Middle School (5-8)
        • Williamstown High School (9-12)

The announcement was made to the approximately 6,000 Pre-K to high school students in the district and their parents on Monday ahead of an emergency meeting set to take place Monday evening.

Mold was discovered covering ceiling tiles, lockers and classrooms at Holly Glen Elementary School and confirmed through tests on Wednesday. The school board voted to close the school on Thursday and send the school's 537 students to three other schools in the district.

Monroe Township superintendent Charles Earling said pre-k, kindergarten, and special needs students would go to Oak Knoll, first through third grade students would go to Radix Elementary, and fourth grade students would be accommodated in a wing in Williamstown High School, separated from high school students. Those students won't be in class until next week at the earliest however, due to the air quality testing taking place in all six schools, which will remain closed for the entire week.

Even before Monday's announcement, Jaimie Ricciardi and Corrine Rilling, parents of students at Radix Elementary School and Williamstown Middle School, told NBC10 they would keep their students home.

"My concern as a mom is just, what are my kids breathing in? My son takes an allergy pill every morning to begin with," Rilling said. "I'm not sending my kids back to school until I know exactly what they're being subjected to."

During a meeting Thursday evening, parents demanded testing of all schools in the district. On Friday, students snapped photos of what they believed to be mold in areas of the schools, including the girls locker room at Williamstown Middle School and the auditorium of Williamstown High School.

"Are they gonna have these crews come in and rip all tiles down and see where the mold is coming from? It's gotta come from somewhere," Ricciardi said.

A moving van and HVAC crews could be seen outside of the back entrance of Radix Elementary School Monday.

"There are children in those classes that reported to their parents that the tiles that were coming out were totally black," Rilling said.

During Thursday's meeting, Tameeka Williams, a parent in attendance, says her son was diagnosed with pneumonia after he started attending Holly Glen Elementary. Now, she says her son uses inhalers and a nebulizer.

“It’s been different degrees of mold,” Earling said. “But not severe mold. But, to us, if it’s there we want to get rid of it.”

At the meeting, Earling assured parents that administrators had contacted appropriate authorities to handle the mold.

Open houses at Monroe Township Public Schools that were set to take place Monday were canceled due to the ongoing Air Quality testing. An emergency board of education meeting will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Williamstown High School Theater.
