A small plane crashed Sunday on a residential street in New Jersey, injuring the pilot, knocking down power lines and damaging parked cars, officials said.

The single-engine Piper went down on Avenue E between 41st and 42nd streets in Bayonne shortly after 10 a.m., city officials said.

The 56-year-old pilot was alert and talking after rescuers removed him from the wreckage, city officials said. He was taken to a hospital with a broken leg.

The pilot was the only person aboard the plane. His name has not been released.

The plane mangled power lines and damaged parked vehicles. But no one on the ground was hurt.

Firefighters were at the scene sorting through parts of the plane, which were scattered on Avenue E near 42nd Street.

The aircraft's wheel compartment was split into two as the pieces lay within 30 feet of each other. A white sedan parked near the accident had its hood partially mangled by the impact of the crash.

Z100 radio DJ Mo' Bounce, who lives blocks from where the plane crashed, said he saw the aircraft descending over his house.

"OMG! A small plane just crashed a few blocks from me in #Bayonne!," he tweeted. "Saw it coming down over out house! Hope everyone is ok!"

Philly Native Cashes In to See Ringling Brothers Circus

One mother’s birthday present 23 years ago was finally cashed in, allowing her daughter to see the Greatest Show on Earth right before its curtain call.

In 1993, the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus was already celebrating its 200th birthday. One of the circus’ promotional ideas was to give away tickets that granted its recipient lifetime access to one of their shows.

Jeanna Padilioni’s mother was able to get her hands on one, and welcomed Jeanna into the world with that circus ticket.

Now more than two decades later, Jeanna used that ticket to celebrate her brother’s 21st birthday with her family. The Philadelphia natives scored one of the most coveted seats to see the Ringling Brothers’ final stop in Philadelphia before they closed their doors.

“This is the perfect day, it’s good weather, it’s a good family day,” Jeanna said.

Like Jeanna, no one in her family has been to the circus, but were excited to see all of its attractions.

"Great spirits, a great day, time to have fun,” said her brother Jeff Padilioni.

After 146 years of touring around the country, the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be putting on the breaks in May, and are currently in their final run in shows.

Kenneth Feld, the CEO of Feld Entertainment and owner of the circus, said the show could not keep up with declining attendance and high operating costs. Their farewell tour includes 30 shows.

The performers will be in Philadelphia for two more shows on Monday, at 11 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Philadelphia protesters will take Monday’s holiday as another opportunity to speak out against the Trump administration.

Instead of celebrating President’s Day, a number of guest speakers and advocates will join protesters for a “Not My President's Day Rally and March” Monday afternoon in the Thomas Paine Plaza.

Beginning at noon, guest speakers will address protesters regarding their growing concerns around the new policies under President Trump.

Speakers include Philadelphia Councilwoman Helen Gym, who will advocate for the city’s position as a sanctuary city, and University of Pennsylvania Professor Nicholas Pevzner who will address issues around climate change. Joseph Assali, a Temple University student whose family was denied entry to the country following the President’s travel ban, will speak about immigration concerns.

Other guests will speak about LGBTQ rights, healthcare, and racial justice.

Protesters will then begin their march at the Thomas Paine Plaza and continue up to 6th & Market streets in the Independence Mall area. Protesters will then return to the plaza.

The march has also arranged for local organizations to be in attendance so people can learn who to contact about important issues in Philadelphia.

All the information about the rally can be found on its Facebook page.

A college football quarterback and brother of Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen has been arrested on rape charges.

Kevin Olsen, 22, of Wayne, New Jersey, was taken into custody Sunday in North Carolina and charged with three counts of second-degree forcible rape, as well as cyberstalking, second-degree force sex offense and assault on a female.

Olsen is a quarterback for the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

“The allegations in this incident, which took place off campus, appear to involve sexual assault within an existing relationship,” a UNC-Charlotte spokesperson wrote. “This incident occurred a week after a separate, unrelated case of alleged on-campus sexual assault involving acquaintances.”

Olsen was suspended from the team and the university is reviewing the case while remaining in communication with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, according to the spokesperson.

Olsen was a top-ranked high school quarterback at Wayne Hills High School in Wayne, New Jersey. He joined the University of Miami but left the school after “an accumulation of reported legal entanglements,” according to NBC Charlotte. NBC Charlotte also reports Olsen transferred to Towson University in Maryland but left less than a year later after breaking team rules. He joined UNC-Charlotte in December 2015.

Pa. Senator Dresses as Douglass to Mock President Trump

Perhaps inspired by recent Saturday Night Live skits, a Pennsylvania senator tried his hand at sketch comedy while criticizing President Donald Trump. In a three-minute long video posted on his website, Senator Anthony Hardy Williams (D-Philadelphia) dressed up as 19th century African-American abolitionist Frederick Douglass and mocked the president's recent comments on Black History Month.

“Forget about everything you heard about me,” Williams says while portraying Douglass. “It’s fake news! I’m alive!”

Earlier this month, President Trump praised the contributions of Douglass, a slave turned abolitionist, as well as other African-American icons.

"Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody who has done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I notice," Trump said.

Critics claimed Trump’s comments suggested Douglass was still alive. Douglass, who was one of the country’s most influential and celebrated African-Americans, died in 1895.

In his parody video, Williams described a conversation between Trump, Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and boxing promoter Don King. He also joked that Trump couldn’t tell the difference between Douglass and King due to their similar hairstyles and that he confused African American philosopher Cornel West with rapper Kanye West.

“For some reason they invited both of us. Don and I,” Williams says in the video. “I said, ‘Hey, what about Cornel West?' He said, ‘He looks nothing like you guys! Besides, he was shooting an episode of the Kardashians!’”

Williams also took aim at Trump’s travel ban.

“So he leaned over and said again, ‘Don? Again, how’s this immigration thing?" Williams asks while still portraying Douglass. "The Mexicans? The Muslims? The Syrians? How did people handle that stuff during your time period?’ I said, ‘Well Mr. President. Think of it like this. If the Native Americans would’ve had a ban, you wouldn’t be here.'”

A spokeswoman for Williams told NBC10 the senator posted the video on his website Thursday. She said the senator chose to make the video as part of Black History Month because he was “upset by President Trump’s comments that Frederick Douglass was still alive.” The spokeswoman also confirmed the video was shot, edited and produced at Williams’ State House Office in Harrisburg.

Home Invasion Victim Spends Nearly 2 Days Bound & Bloodied

A man spent the weekend bloody and bound in his Philadelphia home.

The victim’s brother said he discovered the 50-year-old man inside his home on Neilson Street near E Bristol Street in Juniata Park around 4 p.m. Sunday.

The attack began two days earlier, when two masked men – one armed with some sort of gun – entered the man’s open garage as he did some work on some small engines, Philadelphia Police said.

"They grabbed the resident... they bound him with electrical tape and they put a rag in his mouth and they took him to the second-floor rear bedroom," police Capt. Drew Techner said. "They bludgeoned him, pistol-whipping him."

The entire home invasion and attack took only about 15 minutes but the damage was done, as they left the bloodied man for days until the brother came to the home Sunday afternoon, Techner said.

"(The victim’s) brother – thinking that something was wrong, having not heard from his brother – came to the house… and found his brother in the back bedroom and untied him."

The brother rushed the victim to the hospital where he was treated for injuries to his face, arms and legs, police said. Doctors listed the man in stable condition.

"If his brother did not come and rescue him, who knows, this could have been a homicide," Techner said.

Investigators didn’t immediately know if anything was taken.

"We don’t know exactly why this incident occurred," Techner said.

Surveillance cameras captured much of the incident and investigators recovered the air gun with some blood on it in the bedroom, police said.

Despite not knowing the motive, police said the attack appeared to be planned.

Surveillance video captured a man torching an iconic Philadelphia eatery and police hope the public can help them find the arsonist.

The man – wearing a winter cap, black leather coat, red shirt and gray pants with a logo on the back left leg – can be seen walking along the 700 block of S 4th Street around 4:25 a.m. on Feb. 12, trying the doors of several vehicles and peering at some properties on the Queen Village block near the Famous 4th Street Delicatessen, Philadelphia Police said Monday.

The man is then seen running down the block. About 10 minutes later, a fire begins outside Famous 4th, police said.

Philadelphia Firefighters responded and quickly extinguished the fire at 4th and Bainbridge streets, which caused cosmetic damage to the deli’s brick exterior while melting phone lines, police said.

Famous 4th Street has been a favorite stop for Philadelphia political leaders, residents and visitors since it opened in 1923. The deli continues to be known for its Jewish delicatessen fare.

Investigators asked anyone with information to contact Philadelphia Police Arson Task Force Det. Ken Golczewski at 215-446-7875.
