TODAY'S TOP STORY

Pilot Dies After Small Plane Crashes: A pilot died from his injuries after a small plane crashed in the Bass River State Forest in Burlington County, according to the NTSB. Authorities say the plane had departed from Salisbury, Maryland on Saturday but failed to arrive at Ocean County Airport in New Jersey on Saturday night as scheduled. After attempts to communicate with the pilot were unsuccessful, the pilot's cellphone was tracked to the area where the plane was found. A multiagency search began Sunday morning and a Coast Guard helicopter crew spotted the plane a few hours later. Officials later confirmed the pilot, identified as William Lindley, 75, of Beachwood, New Jersey, died in the crash. He was the only person on the plane.

WHAT YOU MISSED YESTERDAY

Upland Mayor Charged with DUI, Leaving Scene: The mayor of Upland Borough, Pennsylvania was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash, according to a spokesperson for Chester City. Upland Mayor Michael Ciach  was allegedly driving under the influence on E. 22nd Street and Edgemont Avenue in Chester City early Friday morning when he rear ended a car that then struck two other vehicles. Officials say Ciach then fled from the car on foot and was arrested around 4 a.m. by responding officers while wandering the streets of Chester City.

AROUND THE WORLD

Trump Children's Roles Blur Lines: Nearly every morning since their father's stunning victory on Election Day, three of Donald Trump's grown children walk through the Trump Tower lobby and board an elevator. But are Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric going to the campaign office on the fifth floor? Their business offices on the 25th floor? The president-elect's penthouse on the 56th floor? That uncertainty highlights the multiple roles the children play for their father. For the past year, the lines were constantly blurred between political campaign and business empire, raising questions about a possible conflict of interest between Trump's White House and his sprawling business interests. The children are poised to wield incredible influence over their father, even if they don't follow him to Washington. Trump said consistently during the campaign that if he won, those children would stay in New York and run his business. But the three - plus Ivanka's husband, Jared Kushner - were all named to the transition team's executive committee.

Yo Adrian... It's Rocky's 40th Anniversary

$
0
0

Sylvester Stallone can be forgiven for “Rhinestone,” “Over the Top,” "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot” – and anything short of a capital offense, for that matter.

He can be forgiven because on Nov. 21, 1976, he gave us "Rocky."

Rocky Balboa marks 40 years as the ultimate cinematic underdog, occasionally bowed by his creator’s lesser efforts over the decades, but still unbeaten. The battered boxer's story resonates now as much as when it arrived as the work of an unknown star and screenwriter who fought all the way to a Best Picture Oscar.

“Rocky” bridged the late 1960s and early 1970s auteur era with the advent of crowd-pleasing special effect-driven popcorn flicks that Steven Spielberg started in 1975 with “Jaws” and George Lucas sent into hyperdrive in 1977 with “Star Wars.”

Sure, "Rocky" got the masses cheering in the theaters like few other films. Yet Stallone rooted his masterwork in the most human of stories: a talented loser getting an unlikely shot at the big time and overcoming a lifetime of physical and emotional scars to give it his all.

Stallone's pitch-perfect script, director John Avildsen’s unerring eye and Bill Conti’s rousing score filled "Rocky" with now-iconic moments: Rocky guzzling eggs by the glass; Rocky's training odyssey, from plodding up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to leaping in triumph to “Gonna Fly Now;” grizzled trainer Mickey taking a razor blade to Rocky's pounded-shut eye between rounds.

Most memorable of all: Rocky screaming for Adrian, the mousy love of his life, at the end of his epic fight with world champ Apollo Creed, not knowing or caring whether he won or lost.

‘"Rocky" sequels went from great ("Rocky II") to cringe-worthy ("Rocky V"). Stallone seemed, at times, to battle himself, transforming his beloved, relatable character to a human cartoon. This became a Stallone pattern, from the "Rambo" flicks to the purposely over-the-top "Expendables" series.

Stallone’s more embarrassing films threatened to sully “Rocky” and some ambitious, if flawed, movies like 1978’s “F.I.S.T.” and his strong, understated acting turn in 1997’s "Cop Land.”

He made an admirable return in 2006’s "Rocky Balboa" and played a key supporting role in last year's excellent "Creed," turning over the “Rocky” story to the younger, less battle-worn hands of director Ryan Coogler.

“Rocky” made news in September when Donald Trump arrived at a rally in Pennsylvania to "Gonna Fly Now." But for anyone tempted to frame the election as a "Rocky" story, it's worth remembering that humble Rocky Balboa of South Philadelphia came up from nothing to climb into the biggest ring in the world – and he lost the fight.

Rocky, though, needs no forgiveness. He won the battle of the heart, one that beats just as strong 40 years later.

Victim Found Near Post Office

Crime tape and flashing lights surrounded the Ridgefield Post Office on Sunday night — hours after a body was discovered nearby.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said that the body was a 27-year-old man and that he was a victim of homicide.

Police said that they won’t release any more details about the man, including his identity, until his family is identified.

A person was arrested on a manslaughter charge Monday, though authorities did not immediately release details of the arrest.

Resident Monica De La Cruz said investigators arrived around 6 a.m. She doesn’t remember hearing or seeing anything unusual the night before.

“I was surprised when I wake up to drink my coffee this morning and I saw the police across the street,” De La Cruz said.

Christian Nguuyen was also surprised to hear that a body was discovered.

“It’s disturbing, very, very disturbing,” Nguuyen said. “I hope police find out who it is and capture the perp.”

Many questions remain in the case. It’s not know how the man was killed or why he was targeted in the first place.

In the meantime, residents say they’ve never seen this kind of commotion in their community before.

“I called my neighbor and asked, did you see anything, because he lived across the street,” De La Cruz said. “This neighborhood is very, very quiet.”

A week after Philadelphia Police asked for the public’s help to track down a robber caught on camera taking an hour to break into a cash machine, they identified a man facing charges.

Following an anonymous tip, police arrested and charged Donald Smack on French Street on Nov. 17, said police.

Surveillance cameras captured a man using various tools to eventually gain access to the cash drawer of an ATM located outside a meat store along Wadsworth Avenue in the city’s Cedarbrook neighborhood around 2:30 a.m. on Election Day, said Philadelphia Police. [[238427591, C]]

When Will the Winds Calm & Will It Rain on Thanksgiving?

$

The strong gusty winds that started over the weekend are going to stay with us at least for one more day. The winds are coming to us courtesy of a deep area of low pressure located to the north that is staying put for now. [[402286326, C]]

Winds will likely peak early Monday afternoon with gusts of 40 to 50 mph. [[402257836, C]]

The low-pressure center driving these winds will slowly be pulling away from us over the next few days, resulting in less wind, fewer clouds, and the unseasonably cold conditions slowly easing. [[402258146, C]]

Monday, though, the wind chill readings will be in the 20s and 30s even with increasing sunshine.

Even though it is colder than normal, at least it is dry and expected to stay dry for the travel days leading up to Thanksgiving Day. However, the NBC10 First Alert Weather hour-by-hour futurecast, shows a storm system moving through the Midwest Wednesday morning, That system will impact our region on Thanksgiving. [[402258216, C]]

Light showers will be starting to move in from the west by 4 a.m. Thanksgiving morning and though it will be chilly at first, the temperatures will be climbing. The same system bringing showers will also drag in warmer air, ensuring that it will only be rain during the day. Afternoon temperatures will reach into the middle 50s. Light rain showers on Thanksgiving should be moving out later in the day on Thursday with travel-friendly weather right on into next week. [[402258286, C]]

Kanye West Cancels Remaining Saint Pablo Tour Dates

Kanye West abruptly canceled his world tour Monday.

"The remaining dates on the Saint Pablo Tour have been canceled," a rep for West told E! News in a statement. "Tickets will be fully refunded at point of purchase."

The Grammy-winning "Fade" rapper canceled Sunday's show at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., without explanation. After arriving 90 minutes late to his show in Sacramento Saturday, West ranted about Beyoncé, Hillary Clinton and Jay Z—then left after three songs, shouting, "I'm on my Trump s--t tonight."

West was next scheduled to perform at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., Tuesday, with more concerts scheduled in Atlanta, Boston, Brooklyn, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Louisville, Orlando, Philadelphia, Toronto, Washington D.C. and more major cities through New Year's Eve.

[[402206665, C]]

The shocking announcement comes after several incidents on West's tour. The rapper told fans at a San Jose concert last week that if he'd voted, he would have voted for Donald Trump, and delivered a public rant before abruptly ending the show.

Captured on video by concert-goers Saturday night in Sacramento, West, in an over 10-minute tirade, told the audience he was on his "Trump (expletive) tonight." He talked about Beyoncé, Jay Z, Hillary Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg, the radio and MTV at the stop on his Saint Pablo Tour. West then canceled a performance Sunday in the Los Angeles area, and Monday a spokesperson announced that he'd canceled the remainder of his tour dates.

Police have arrested the suspect in a Nov. 7 shooting outside the Olney Transportation Center.

Keith Ballard, 32, of the 7800 block of Bayard Street, was identified as the shooter who injured two men at the corner of Broad and Olney, according to investigators.

A 43-year-old man was waiting with a friend at Broad and Olney when he heard multiple gunshots and was hit in the left leg. He was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center, treated and listed in stable condition.

A 29-year-old man was also struck in the shooting. He was on Olney Avenue near Broad Street when he heard two to four gunshots and felt something hit the side of his head. He noticed he was bleeding after feeling his head and walked himself to Einstein. He was treated for a graze wound and listed in stable condition.

Neither man could tell who was shooting nor knew a reason why they could be targeted.

Police recovered surveillance video after the shooting that showed a man, who they later identified as Ballard, walking on Olney Avenue towards Broad Street. The suspect walked through a crowd of people, singled out the victims, and fired several shots, police said.

Ballard was arrested Friday. He is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.

Bail is set at $100,000.

“Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe help to make the season bright,” Nat King Cole crooned in his holiday classic, "The Christmas Song."

If you agree with Nat, just over two weeks after Thanksgiving, Six Flags is making an attempt to break the Guinness World Record title for most couples kissing under the mistletoe so you can achieve that special pairing.

Six Flags is calling on all couples, ages 18 and older, to visit their parks on Dec. 10.

At 5 p.m. eastern time, couples will pucker-up at the same time as other couples in three different time zones. Registration for the event will begin at 3:30 p.m. eastern time and each couple will receive their own mistletoe.

Each couple must hold the kiss for 10 seconds to qualify for the record.

In addition to Six Flags Great Adventure, six other six flags parks are participating. Couples near Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags Over Texas, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Six Flags St. Louis, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom can help the amusement park break the record.

Youth Group Leader Sexually Assaults Teen Girl: Police

A Bucks County youth group leader was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a teen girl and trying to assault another inside a church.

Michael Walusimbi, 22, of Bensalem, turned himself in to Middletown Township Police Monday. Police say Walusimbi sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl and tried to sexually assault a 15-year-old girl inside the Oxford Valley Chapel in Middletown Township during two separate incidents over the summer.

The 13-year-old girl told police Walusimbi grabbed her and then sexually assaulted her inside the church back on July 2.

The 15-year-old girl told police that Walusimbi attempted to sexually assault her inside the church as well over the summer while whispering in her ear that someday “she would call him a pedophile.” The girl said she managed to break free from Walusimbi by kicking her leg backward.

Both girls are members of the church’s youth group in which Walusimbi is one of the leaders.

On November 3, Walusimbi allegedly admitted to police that he sexually assaulted the 13-year-old girl and tried to sexually assault the 15-year-old inside the church. He was arrested and charged with institutional sexual assault, attempted institutional sexual assault, indecent assault, attempted indecent assault, felony corruption of minors and misdemeanor corruption of minors. His bail is set at $50,000, 10 percent cash.

Investigators say Walusimbi may have assaulted others and are urging any additional victims to come forward.
