Anti-Trump Protests Continue in Center City

Protests continue in cities nationwide, including Philadelphia, more than a week after Donald Trump’s presidential victory. Hundreds of people gathered at Thomas Paine Plaza on 1401 JFK Boulevard Saturday and marched to the National Constitution Center.

“This event is to protest president-elect Donald Trump, vice president-elect Mike Pence & the Electoral College,” an organizer wrote. “Trump is a racist, bigoted, misogynistic, narcissist who makes fun of the disabled and he does NOT represent me or the hundreds of millions of people who did NOT vote for him.”

The Trump protests in Philadelphia have remained peaceful and without incident for the most part though police detained four people during a demonstration in Center City Wednesday.

First Alert: Snow Possible, High Winds Probable

A First Alert is in effect for our region due to much colder temperatures, high winds, and in some areas, a rain/snow wintry mix. All of these changes are expected to roll into the tri-state area by tonight into Sunday.

Saturday will begin comfortable. Well above average high temperatures are forecast to warm into the mid to upper 60s.  From the west, a strong system with a large cold front will move in overnight. This will bring big changes to the forecast.

Beginning around 6 p.m., spotty showers will move over the western edge of our viewing area. The showers will progress east and south as the night carries on.

By 8 p.m., showers are expected more steadily for Philadelphia, stretching through New Jersey. For counties north and west of Philadelphia, including Berks, Lehigh, Upper Bucks and Upper Montgomery counties, a rain/snow wintry mix is possible briefly. Snow is likely over the Poconos. The chance of precipitation moves off to the east and out of our region by midnight.

Nothing should stick in the Lehigh Valley, as the ground is too warm. However, the wintry weather, combined with the cooler temps and high winds will be a shock to step into following the much warmer than average temperatures we have been seeing.

As for winds, they will gain strength early evening Saturday. Overnight winds may gust up to 40 miles per hour. The gusts are forecast to weaken only slightly Sunday morning—still up to 30 to 40 miles per hour.

The winds will continue gust to 40-50 miles per hour Sunday afternoon. The Philadelphia Marathon will be very cold, windy. As a result, wind chill temperatures will make it feel much colder than it truly is on Sunday. Sunday morning temperatures will feel like they’re in the low 20s around Philadelphia.

For the Lehigh Valley and portions of the suburbs, temperatures will feel like they’re in the upper teens. Sunday high temperatures are forecast around the mid to upper 40s, feeling like only 30-35 degrees due to high winds.

Temperatures will remain chilly Monday and Tuesday as well, with windy weather forecast through Monday.

Loved Ones Mourn 8-Year-Old Girl Killed in Hit-and-Run

Ayesha Poole had a message for the driver who struck and killed her daughter and then fled the scene.

"She was only eight," Poole said while in tears. "You hit her and she flew from the corner to the middle of the block! And you kept going! How?!"

Poole and other loved ones attended a vigil for 8-year-old Jayanna Powell Saturday. Jayanna and her siblings were walking home from school Friday around 3:15 p.m. and approaching the crosswalk at 63rd Street and Lansdowne Avenue in Philadelphia's Overbrook neighborhood when the crash occurred.

"We was just crossing the street just to get the bus," Jayanna's 12-year-old brother Hassan Cox said.

Cox said he was holding his sister's hand as they crossed 63rd Street when they were struck by a driver speeding through the intersection trying to catch a yellow light. The force of the impact was so strong that the girl was thrown 20 feet, her family said. A witness said the girl's backpack also tore open, splaying paper and books all over the street.

Cox was knocked into a nearby car, the family said. Jayanna was rushed to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with serious injuries. She passed away around 6 p.m. Friday, police said.

"You hit a baby and kept going," Poole said. "And didn't even care to think! Nothing! You left my baby helpless in the street!"

Police are searching for a gray or silver Nissan Altima or Maxima with damage to the headlights and grille. The car was last seen heading southbound on 63rd Street. Cox described what the driver looked like during Saturday's vigil.

"He was bald. He had a half-beard at his chin," Cox said. "He had white glasses on."

Ronnie Thomas, the girl's grandfather, talked directly to the driver after his granddaughter's death saying "you should have stopped and made sure the two little kids are alright and then gone about your business."

"But you didn't do none of that. You hit them and you ran," he said. "Who does that?"

The girl's uncle said he's offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the driver.

Anyone with information about the driver or whereabouts of the car is asked to call the Philadelphia Police tipline at 215.686.TIPS.

Cyber Stalker Tries to Meet Teen Victim at Starbucks: Police

A Bucks County man who pleaded guilty to cyber stalking a teen girl was arrested again after he allegedly continued to harass her on social media and tried to meet with her at Starbucks.

Shane Holderer, 55, of Pipersville, Pennsylvania, was arrested Thursday and charged with harassment.

Holderer was convicted of stalking and harassing in a sexual manner a 13-year-old girl on social media between 2012 and 2013 and was sentenced to five years of probation with conditions that included no longer contacting her.

On September 25, 2016, the same girl reported to police that she was once again being stalked and harassed on Twitter. The teen said she noticed three days earlier that a user she did not recognize had retweeted one of her tweets. The girl checked the account and discovered it contained several thousand tweets about her, according to investigators. She also said several of the tweets were sexual in nature and many mentioned explicit sexual acts that the user wanted to do with her.

Investigators say they determined Holderer was the man behind the account based on the fact that many of the tweets were similar to the ones he made about the same girl back in 2012 and 2013 as well as the fact that the tweets referenced his personal life and family members. Officials also say Holderer had an Instagram account that mentioned the girl, her younger sister and some of her friends. Many of the posts on his Instagram were sexual as well, according to investigators. Investigators also believe Holderer created the account in October, 2013, shortly after he was charged in the initial cyber stalking case.

Officials say Holderer made one Instagram post that included the cropped and zoomed in photo of the girl’s buttocks with the caption, “God d*** that’s a nice a**…Admittedly I use the whole package for workout motivation.”

After determining Holderer was behind both the Twitter and Instagram accounts, a police officer took over the girl’s Twitter account and assumed her identity. Investigators say the officer and Holderer messaged each other back and forth for several days until they set up a meeting at the Starbucks Cafe on North Main Street in Doylestown. On Thursday around 6:45 p.m., Holderer arrived at the Starbucks where he was met by the officer. Holderer allegedly admitted to using his Twitter and Instagram accounts for “things he shouldn’t be using them for.” He was then arrested and taken into custody.

Holderer’s bail was set at $250,000. He’s currently in jail awaiting his next hearing.

Philadelphia Eagles Lose to Seattle Seahawks

$
0
0

It would have been hard enough for the Eagles to win on Sunday even if they played the perfect game in Seattle.

It was impossible to win with the way they played.

Brandon Graham jumped offsides, Jalen Mills missed a tackle and Nelson Agholor didn’t line up on the line of scrimmage. The list of mistakes goes on.

All of that was too much to overcome against one of the best teams in the NFL, as the Eagles lost, 26-15, to the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Eagles dropped to .500 on the season at 5-5. The Seahawks improved to 7-2-1. The Seahawks improved to 32-5 at home since 2012.

The Eagles are now 0-5 when they give up 20-plus points this season and 5-0 when they don’t.

Despite all the Eagles’ mistakes in the first half, they were down just 16-7 heading into the second half. But the Eagles lost their top two running backs and the Seahawks cruised to a victory.

The Seahawks ended up outgaining the Eagles 439-308 on the afternoon. The Eagles added a fourth-quarter touchdown, but couldn’t get any closer.

Turning point
The Eagles scored a 57-yard touchdown that would have given them the lead in the second quarter, but Agholor wasn’t lined up on the line of scrimmage. The Eagles were called for an illegal formation and the play was called back.

On the very next snap, the Eagles – as they like to do – went back to Agholor. He was all alone in the middle of the field for what should have been a first down, but he dropped the ball.

Key stat
With his touchdown catch on a trick play in the third quarter, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has the same amount of receiving touchdowns as Agholor this season. Agholor hasn’t had one since Week 1.

First half
The Eagles had chances in the first half but went into the locker room down 16-7 after a few costly mistakes.

The biggest was the illegal formation that negated a 57-yard touchdown that would have given the Eagles a 14-13 lead. On the ensuing drive, the Seahawks picked up a field goal.

On the drive before the Agholor penalty, the Seahawks went on a 10-play, 92-yard drive that was capped by a 35-yard touchdown catch by Jimmy Graham. Graham caught the ball with Jaylen Watkins draped on him, but it didn't matter. The play before the touchdown, Brandon Graham was flagged for being offside, which extended the drive. Even earlier in the drive, the Seahawks had a 2nd-and-20 from their own 10-yard line and converted on third down.

The Seahawks kicked off the scoring with a big 72-yard run from rookie C.J. Prosise, but after the Seahawks missed the extra point, the Eagles responded with a 13-play, 68-yard drive that spanned 7:35. It was their longest drive (plays and time) of the season. Ertz caught his first touchdown pass of the season to cap off the drive.

The Seahawks outgained the Eagles, 300-146, in the first half.

Offensive stud
Ertz picked up his first touchdown of the season and should have had another had it not been for a bonehead penalty.

Offensive dud
Agholor. The penalty, the drop. Just an awful day for the former first-round pick.

Defensive stud
Nolan Carroll had a huge highlight-reel hit in the first half.

Defensive dud
Rookie Jalen Mills didn’t have his best game. He had a rough day in coverage and missed a tackle on the long touchdown run by Prosise.

Injury report
Ryan Mathews (knee) and Darren Sproles (ribs) were both injured in the first half and did not return for the second half. Jason Peters (left forearm) left briefly but returned. Halapoulivaati Vaitai left in the fourth quarter with a left knee injury.

Jordan Matthews (back) and Zach Ertz (hamstring) were both questionable coming into the game, but were active. Safety Terrence Brooks (hamstring) did not play.

Up next
The Eagles will be home next weekend for a Monday Night Football game against the Packers. Then they’ll travel to Cincinnati the following weekend.
