Thousands are without power after a line of severe thunderstorms moved through our area Sunday night.

PECO says about 4,463 customers are without power in the Philadelphia area. A majority of those outages were reported in Montgomery County including Abington and Glenside.

Thunderstorms started moving through Chester County around 7:30 p.m. bringing rain and heavy winds. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Chester, Delaware, Salem and New Castle counties. The storms also brought down several trees throughout the area.

“These storms will cool us down a bit tonight and we have our ridge of high pressure that is starting to weaken,” said NBC10 Meteorologist Brittney Shipp. “This means our temps will drop a bit heading into the start of next week.”

An excessive heat warning was in effect throughout the weekend for most of the region, including Philadelphia, parts of South Jersey, eastern Chester County, Eastern Montgomery County, Lower Bucks County and New Castle County, Delaware.

On Monday, expect a mix of sun and clouds. We could also see a few scattered showers through the day; thunderstorms are more likely in the afternoon, with highs still around 90.

Temperatures will be back down to the mid to high 80’s by Thursday, according to Shipp.
