Reports of Sexual Assault Along Popular Philly Trail

Philadelphia police say they are frustrated that assaults along a popular trail are being reported on social media, but not to them.

Some runners on the Schuylkill River Trail have posted online that they have been harassed and even sexually assaulted.

The discussion took off earlier this week after a woman on Facebook said she watched a woman being attacked by a group of kids on bikes. Other runners then commented that they experienced the same thing.

The Schuylkill River Development Corporation, the non-profit that oversees the trail, posted a statement on their website asking people to reach out to police.

“Help catch these folks. And the way you do that is call 911 while it’s happening, either the victim or the witnesses, get identification, what they look like, what they’re wearing, what their bikes look like, these are kids on bikes, and which direction they went so that the police when they respond have a chance of catching them,” Joseph Syrnick of the SRDC told NBC10.

For their part, Philadelphia police said they are increasing their presence on the trail.

Earlier this month, USA Today named the Schuylkill River Trail the nation's best urban trail.

A Lehigh Valley student is accused of dealing heroin and crack from a Dunkin' Donuts across from his high school.

The 17-year-old Liberty High School student was spotted by a teacher allegedly dealing the drugs inside the coffee shop along E. Elizabeth Avenue in Bethlehem Thursday morning, according to Bethlehem Police.

The teacher escorted the student, who recently transferred from New Jersey, back into the high school where a school resource officer and administrators conducted a search.

Bethlehem Police Chief Mark DiLuzio said officials seized 285 packets of heroin and 43 bags of crack and cocaine.

The teen, whose name isn't being released because he's a juvenile, faces a number of drug charges including possession with the intent to deliver. He's being held in the Northampton County Juvenile Detention Center. The school is planning to expel him.

DiLuzio praised the teacher for being alert and acting quickly.

A Lehigh Valley man tried to film a teenage family member in the shower and beat and choked her after she confronted him about it, police said.

Israel Santiago-Pacheco, 30, of Bethlehem, was arrested this week and charged with Simple Assault, Endangering the Welfare of Children and Invasion of Privacy.

The 15-year-old girl told police she stepped into the tub on Wednesday and noticed Santiago-Pacheco's phone above the shower head, court documents show. She grabbed it and discovered it was recording, police said.

Looking through the phone's memory, the teen found several videos of her, court documents said. She began deleting them and removed the SD memory card.

When the teen confronted Santiago-Pacheco about the recordings, police said he kicked the girl in the stomach and choked her until she started to blackout. When he let go to cut the SD card in half, the teen ran out of the house and called her father who called police.

Santiago-Pacheco was gone when officers arrived. They found a 1-year-old boy alone on the second floor of the family's home. The man was later arrested.

The suspect is being held on $125,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for next Wednesday.

Dog With Anxiety Attacks Owner: PD

A dog anxious over the departure of one of the people living in its New Jersey home attacked its owner and another woman Thursday night because it didn't one of them to leave, authorities say.

The female dog, a pit bull, bit her 50-year-old mother and the woman's 31-year-old daughter Thursday evening after they attempted to leave their house in South Brunswick, according to police.

The dog had apparently been exhibiting signs of anxiety over the recent departure of her owner's 19-year-old daughter, who had left for college recently, according to animal control officials.

South Brunswick Police Capt. James Ryan said the dog attacked the 31-year-old woman first as she was attempting to leave. The 50-year-old went to try to pull the dog away and was also bitten.

Both women were bitten on their arms and legs.

The family's father was eventually able to get the dog under control and placed it in the garage until police and animal control authorities arrived to take it away to an animal hospital.

Ryan says this is the second time in the last two weeks or so that a pit bull attacked its owners, though he was not sure what provoked the first attack.

Ryan called the attack surprising.

"Who ever heard of a dog having separation anxiety?," he said.

Vandal Leaves Crosses Upside Down Inside City Church

Whoever tagged a Northeast Philadelphia church and broke crucifixes off the wall left bloody fingerprints before making a getaway.

The overnight vandalism left Rev. Owen Griffiths, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church at 4150 Woodhaven Road, devastated.

"Somebody has their own personal demons and saw an opportunity and decided to do something destructive," said Griffiths.

The vandal or vandals left profanity on a wall, which sits just across the road from Philadelphia Mills, left a crucifix upside down on the floor -- a sign of the Satan, according to Griffiths -- did damage to the church’s heater and used a cinder block to break through a double-pane window. Bloody fingerprints on the church door could serve as a clue in finding the vandal.

Philadelphia Police didn’t reveal any details about possible suspects.

Griffiths spent Friday morning cleaning up the thousands of dollars in damage to the 55-year-old sanctuary that serves more than 200 people.

Two Men & Baby Steal Scooter

Detectives are looking for two men — one holding a baby — wanted for swiping a man's scooter from in front of his home.

Isaack Barker has had his Honda CH-80 since January, and always secures the bike right outside his front door on Ridge Avenue near West Jefferson Street. But it when we went to find it Thursday afternoon, it was nowhere to be found.

"I had come back to the door at about 1:00, 12:45 probably, and the bike was gone," Barker said.

Barker checked his security surveillance video and saw two men cutting the chain, with the baby-holding man serving as a lookout.

"Crime with a baby?! That's like absolutely ridiculous," said Barker. "He's standing in the street with the baby talking to the criminal. And just to hold the baby like that, and hop on a bicycle ..."

As the one man walked the scooter down Ridge Avenue, the man with the baby hopped on a bicycle and rode it precariously down the sidewalk, with the infant on his lap.

"Getting the baby involved, man ... it's a crime against a baby. It's ridiculous."

Police hadn't seen the video because a detective had not yet been assigned the case, but they're hoping the public can help catch these criminals.

"I don't want to wish bad upon nobody, but you done put bad on me," added Barker.

If you recognize either of the two men in the video — or the infant — call the Philadelphia Police tipline at 215.686.TIPS.

Philadelphia police arrested a man who they say stole 17 taxi cabs -- two of which were used in committing crimes.

Earlier this month, police arrested Eric Kemp, 24, and charged him with 17 counts of auto theft and related counts.

The suspect swiped 12 taxi cabs in a one-week span in West Philadelphia and Southwest Philadelphia. The thefts happened between June 7 and June 16, said police. Since then another five cabs went missing -- the most recent on Sept. 9. Including cabs parked in nearby Upper Darby.

Some of the stolen taxi cabs bear the logo of "215 Get A Cab."

Lt. John Walker said two of the stolen cabs were used during crimes. The first was used during a shooting at 41st and Ogden Streets on June 9. The second happened on Monday when three males jumped out of a cab and committed an armed robbery.

Police said the other cabs were found on the street and not used in any crimes.
