Police discovered a body inside a basement during the search for a missing teenager Monday.

Detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lower Township Police Department found the body of a white female inside the basement of an abandoned home on 100 Vermont Avenue in the Rio Grande section of Middle Township, New Jersey.

Officials made the discovery during the search for 15-year-old Nicole Angstadt, who was reported missing by her family on Dec. 1 and was last seen on Nov. 29 at her home in the Erma section of Lower Township. Investigators say the teen ran away in the past and was previously found in the Rio Grande and Wildwood areas. They have not yet confirmed however whether or not the body they found Monday is Angstadt. They also have not yet determined a cause of death.

“We’re probably going to be here for hours and hours gathering the evidence because it’s quite an exhaustive search,” said Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor.

Angstadt is described as a white female standing 5-foot-8 and weighing 177 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes.

If you have any information on the investigation, please call the Lower Township Police at 609-886-2711 or 9-1-1 immediately.

Jury to Decide Woman's Role in Attack on Gay Couple

Anti-gay tweets from a young woman charged in an attack on a gay couple show the homophobic views that fueled her actions, a Philadelphia prosecutor argued Tuesday in a case that led the city to expand its hate crime law.

Kathryn Knott, the daughter of a suburban police chief, is charged with taking part in an attack that left one man hospitalized with a broken jaw. She testified for about an hour Tuesday and denied shouting slurs or striking either victim.

Knott, 25, said she moved toward the fray to try to intervene.

"Does she want to get involved in a fight with four men, all bigger than her?" defense lawyer Louis Busico argued Tuesday before a courtroom packed with supporters for both the defendant and the victims.

However, several prosecution witnesses identified her as the woman in a white dress who shouted slurs and threw a punch during a confrontation that began when her group of 15 friends leaving a birthday dinner tangled with two gay men heading out for pizza.

"This was a hate crime," Assistant District Attorney Michael Barry said in his closing remarks Tuesday, after the jury saw tweets in which Knott used anti-gay language to describe a bad hair day or lame song. "She can't help herself. It's bubbling right below the surface. ... It shows she shares the state of mind with her co-conspirators."

Two male friends have pleaded guilty and received probation — and were barred from downtown — but Knott went to trial to fight the charges. She faces several years in prison if convicted of aggravated assault and other crimes.

Knott was out with friends from her Catholic high school on Sept. 11, 2014, when they encountered the couple and started spewing profanity-laced slurs, prosecutors said. Before long, the victims were being pummeled. Co-defendants Philip Williams and Kevin Harrington denied any homophobic intent when they entered their pleas.

Knott, in her testimony, was also forced to explain tweets about being banned from a bar, kicking down a door during a police raid with her father, and having him track down and ticket a driver who ran her off the road. She said she did not remember why she was thrown out of the bar in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

"I was in college on spring break and it was a poor decision," she said of posting the tweet.

Knott, of Southampton, Bucks County, lost her job at a hospital following her arrest. She remains free on bail. The jury is set to start deliberations Wednesday morning.

Weeks after the attack, the city amended its hate crime laws to include sexual orientation.

Man Stabs Jogger, Walker in Center City Philly

A man out for an early morning jog and a man on a walk both became victims of a man with knife in Center City Philadelphia Tuesday.

The first incident played out just before 5:30 a.m. as a 23-year-old man jogged by a man carrying a shopping bag in front of the Riverloft Apartment Homes at 23rd and Walnut street.

The unknown male began to yell at the jogger then charged him, knocked him to the ground then began thrusting a 3-inch blade at him, leaving the jogger with puncture wounds to the hand and torso, said police.

A person working at the condos scared off the attacker.

But, about 15 minutes later, the same man -- described as being around 20 to 30 years old, standing 6-foot, 2-inches tall and wearing a gray hoodie -- slashed a 42-year-old man in the face at 21st and Arch streets.

“Open your ears motherf*^#@r, and keep walking,” the attacker shouted just moments before the attack, the victim told police.

Both victims were taken to Hahnemann University Hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information or who recognizes the attacker is asked to contact Philly Police.

Lawsuit: Contaminated Beer Poisons Former Officer

A retired Ocean City police officer is suing an Atlantic City restaurant, claiming a beer he bought there was contaminated with a caustic cleaning solution that left him permanently injured.

Richard Washart told NBC10 his trouble began in November of 2012 when he visited McCormick and Schmick’s restaurant at Harrah’s Casino in Atlantic City. Washart says he took one sip of a draft beer and immediately felt a searing pain. He then says he started vomiting blood.

“It was direly wrong and I knew I was in trouble,” he said.

Washart says his violent reaction was due to a cleaning product that remained in a beer dispensing line at the restaurant.

“Rich is lucky to be alive,” said Washart’s lawyer Paul D’Amato.

Washart was hospitalized for a week with burns to his digestive tract. He says he still feels discomfort from his injuries and he requires medical treatment three years later.

“My future is uncertain as far as the medical side of things go,” he said.

Washart and his wife Cynthia – an emergency room nurse for nearly 30 years – filed a lawsuit accusing McCormick and Schmick’s as well as the two local beer distributors hired to regularly clean the beer lines, accusing them of negligence.

“You think when you go out to eat that what you’re going to ingest is safe,” Cynthia Washart said. “I never questioned that before.”

NBC10 reached out to the defendants but they refused to comment. They denied any wrongdoing in court documents however.

“Nobody is admitting responsibility,” D’Amato said. “That’s why we’re asking people -- somebody’s out there that knows what happened -- to come forward and let’s avoid a full blown trial.”

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. Washart also says he wants those involved in the food and beverage industry to be more careful.

“Please do it the right way,” Washart said. “We don’t want this to happen to somebody else.”

If the case goes to trial it will likely begin next summer.

A driver crashed his car into a Delaware home while he was texting on his phone, according to police.

Investigators say the unidentified 23-year-old man was driving his Pontiac Bonneville on Opus Drive towards Taylor Drive in Newark, Delaware around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday.

The man was allegedly texting on his cellphone and not paying attention to the road causing him to miss the turn onto Taylor Drive. The vehicle then drove onto a grassy yard area, over a short chain link fence and into the back of a home on the unit block of Archer Circle where it came to rest, police said.

No one was inside the home at the time of the crash and the driver was not injured, police said. A New Castle County Building Inspector who was called to the scene deemed the house uninhabitable. The Delaware Red Cross is currently assisting the homeowner.

The driver was issued for citations for using an electronic communication device while operating a motor vehicle and inattentive driving.

A driver is in critical condition after he was shot several times and then crashed into a parked tractor-trailer in Philadelphia early Wednesday morning.

The incident began about 2:30 a.m. when police say a 47-year-old man sitting in his SUV was shot several times at Green and Manheim Streets in the Hunting Park section.

The man drove away from the scene, but a short time later he slammed head-on into a parked big-rig at Germantown Avenue and Pike Street.

“For several minutes, he was actually trapped in the vehicle from the auto accident. His legs and lower extremities were trapped and crushed inside of the vehicle. Medics used the Jaws of Life,” Chief Inspector Scott Small explained.

The unidentified driver was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he’s listed in critical condition.

Investigators said they found 12 bags of crack cocaine in the passenger seat of the SUV. The incident is being investigated as a possible drug-related shooting.

So far, no arrests have been made.

Philly Police 'Arrest' Stormtroopers

The Philadelphia Police Department believes it has a solution to combat the issue of "Star Wars" spoilers being leaked online.

Lt. Stephen Clark posted a picture on Twitter showing two "Stormtroopers" lined up against a police cruiser on South Street with the caption, "#StarWarsSpoilers resurgence by Imperial Forces in #StarWarsForceAwakens was thwarted by @PhillyPolice."

The seventh installment in the wildly popular Sci-Fi series premiered Monday and hits theaters Friday. "The Force Awakens" is the first film in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy.

The Philadelphia Police Department also sent out a Tweet on Tuesday, saying the spoiler issue is a real problem and should be considered a crime.

While the police department was playful in its Tweets, the fear of movie spoilers has become a big concern among "Star Wars" fans, even prompting a Google Chrome extension that warns Internet users of plot-revealing details.

The photo was first shared by Lt. Clark in February. Clark told NBC10 the picture was not photo-shopped.

A high school teacher in New Jersey was indicted on charges accusing him of smoking marijuana with a student, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Details about the charges weren't available.

Fleming, a Hackensack resident, was charged with two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Each count carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Fleming was suspended with pay after his arrest in April, according to school officials.

There was no information as to whether he had obtained a lawyer who could comment on the charges.

Wedding Giant Turns to Size 14 Bride in Ads

Wedding gown giant David’s Bridal is utilizing a typically-sized model in its latest ad campaign as the company looks to represent a greater amount of its customers.

The Conshohocken, Pennsylvania-based wedding wear supplier turned to a Size 14 blonde "bride" for the ad campaign -- a move company leadership felt was long overdue.

"We’ve always seen a diverse group of women in our stores and felt it was important that we made a change to reflect that in our campaign imagery," said David’s Bridal senior vice president and chief customer officer Trevor Lunn. "It wasn’t that this season was precisely the right time to feature a size 14 model –- it’s something we should have been doing all along."

In 2010, WebMD and others reported that Size 14 was the average dress size in America even though retailers didn't always gear advertising and items towards that size.

David's Bridal's new ad campaign, shot in front of London landmarks like a red phone booth and Big Ben, (the company has 18 stores in the United Kingdom) features a beautiful bride with her smiling, bearded groom wearing items available at the company's more than 300 locations in America and Canada.

So far, so good on the response to the new bridal campaign.

“We’re thrilled to hear such positive feedback from our customers on the new creative images and will continue to focus on inclusivity in future campaigns as well,” said Lunn.

David’s Bridal was founded in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1950. It remains very popular, David’s Bridal featured three of the Top 25 dresses of 2014, according to BridalGuide.com.
