A 12-year-old girl swimming in the ocean off Atlantic City, New Jersey claims a man groped her in the water and police are now searching for the suspect.

The girl told police she was swimming with a friend at the Annapolis Avenue beach on July 11th around 4 p.m. when she said a man swam underwater and touched her inappropriately more than once.

The girl and her friend immediately got out of the ocean and reported the incident to a parent and lifeguard and police were called, but the man had walked away.

Several witnesses at the beach said the incident was unlikely an accident as the stretch of beach was not crowded at the time.

Anyone with information about the suspect as seen in the sketch is asked to contact Detective Neil Kane of the Atlantic City Police at 609-347-5766.

Woman's Partially Disrobed Body Found Atop Children's Slide

Children played at a Delaware playground again Thursday evening despite a troubling discovery earlier in the day right on top of a slide.

Thursday morning, Wilmington Police blocked off the playground equipment at Canby Park off S Union Street after the discovery of a woman’s body. Wilmington Police called the death “suspicious.”

Neighbors said some of the dead woman’s clothing was pulled down around her ankles and that earlier Wednesday night she was seen sitting with a man on a bench across the park. Investigators didn’t immediately reveal exact details of the body’s condition nor did they identify the victim. An autopsy would be needed to determine a cause of death.

People in the area of the park – a row of homes sits close by – searched answers.

“I’m surprised, we haven’t had an incident happen here – especially here in the park,” said neighbor Kevin Barry.

Fire crews washed down the slide and scrubbed the park before reopening it.

A man charged with burning a Confederate battle flag he saw on another person's vehicle has been jailed on charges including reckless burning.

The York Dispatch reports Hanover police charged 48-year-old Mathew Becker on Thursday after surveillance video showed him burning the flag on July 17.

Police say that happened while the vehicle the flag was mounted on was parked at a convenience store about 5:30 a.m.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Becker, who, police say, acknowledged what he did.

The flag has become a point of debate since a white man who took pictures of himself with the banner fatally shot 9 black people at a South Carolina church last month.

Becker, who is white, faces a preliminary hearing on Aug. 25.

More NJ Transit Delays

Overhead wire problems are causing train delays in and out of Penn Station in Manhattan Friday, NJ Transit said.

Delays at about 7 a.m. Friday were topping 30 minutes. Trains on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast lines were both affected.

PATH is cross-honoring NJ Transit rail tickets at stations in Newark, Hoboken and 33rd Street in Manhattan. NJ Transit buses, private coaches and New York Waterway ferries are also cross-honoring rail tickets.

It's not clear how long the problems will persist.

Friday's issues mark the fourth time in five days NJ Transit riders have had to deal with cancellations and delays.

After issues Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, NJ Transit issued an apology to customers.

"The quality of your commute during the last several days has been unacceptable, and we share in your frustration," the rail service said in a statement.

The string of issues come just a week after NJ Transit's board approved a 9-percent fare hike. Increased rates are set to kick in in October.

A New Jersey man is accused of impersonating a police officer while pulling over a driver at a traffic light, then robbing him of thousands of dollars in cash.

Police in Brick said the suspect, 40-year-old Michael Vence, pulled up alongside a car stopped at a light on Cedarbridge Avenue on Jul 14, showed what appeared to be a police badge and said he was an officer.

He was arrested Tuesday on charges of impersonating a police officer and theft, and released on $20,000 bail.

During their investigation into the incident, detectives learned that Vence may have been operating an unlicensed taxi service catering to customers at a nightclub on Chambersbridge Road, police said. They're looking to speak to other potential victims and ask anyone with information to contact them at 732-262-1170.
