Delaware police K-9 unit dogs came out of the station donning new body armor designed to protect them from bullet and stab wounds Friday, all thanks to nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

The Massachusetts-based organization, specializing in providing protective gear for canines in the line duty, awarded the potentially lifesaving vests to the New Castle police department law enforcement dogs.

The organization raised more than $11,000 in 2015 calendar sales, by selling more than 1300 calendars throughout the country.

Each vest costs $950 and has a five year warranty.

The nonprofit organization was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies in providing bullet and knife-proof jackets for canines in need. Since then, Vested Interested in K9s, Inc. has issued bulletproof vests to more than 1200 police dogs in the nation.

Currently, the organization is selling items on its website to support the cause. All proceeds from the sales will go toward providing K-9 officers with bullet and stab resistant armor.

The water main broke around 5:20 p.m. at Ritner and South Lambert streets. Officials shut off the water and are currently making repairs.

Around 80 homes in the surrounding area are without water, according to officials. Water poured into the basements of many of the homes, including Michael Kinee.

"My bathroom is destroyed," Kinee said. "Just replacing the hot water tank, my house heater, my washer and dryer will be about $7,000 and to re-rock and then to redo the theater room will probably be another $50,000."

Officials are hoping to finish the repairs by Saturday morning.

Superstar Little League pitcher Mo’ne Davis proved she’s just as skilled on the hardwood as she is on the diamond during the NBA All-Star weekend celebrity basketball game Friday night.

The 13-year-old Taney Dragons ace went head to head with comedian Kevin Hart. Mo'ne drew "oohs" and "aaahs" from the crowd during one play in which she went around Hart with an impressive spin move before finishing with a layup.

The move was so good that not even Hart, known for his trash talking during the celebrity basketball games, could deny it.

“That was actually a good move,” Hart said during a timeout. “No excuses brother.”

Davis, who is only in the eighth grade, plays for varsity girls’ basketball team at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy and is a team captain as well.

Davis gained fame over the summer during her magical run during the Little League World Series in which she became the first girl to ever win a game in the tournament. She was also named the 2014 SI Sports Kid of the Year for her accomplishments.

Despite all of her baseball achievements, Davis has repeatedly said her first love is basketball and she hopes to one day play for the University of Connecticut.

One person was injured when police opened fire during a traffic stop in Morrisville, Bucks County early Saturday.

The police-involved shooting happened near the 7-Eleven on South Pennsylvania Avenue and West Bridge Street around 5:30 a.m., police said.

The officer pulled into the convenience store parking lot and spotted a suspicious vehicle. He quickly ran the plates and discovered that the car was stolen from Bristol earlier, Morrisville Borough Police Chief George McClay told NBC10.

When the officer pulled up behind the stolen car, the driver backed into the marked cruiser. The officer then got out of his car and was hit by the suspect as he tried to leave the scene, according to authorities.

The officer opened fire on the vehicle, striking it twice. The driver was injured by one of the bullets, said McClay.

While driving from the scene, the suspect crashed into a road barrier which sent the car into a wooded area, stopping the suspect in his tracks.

He was transported to St. Mary's Hospital and is in critical but stable condition, McClay said.

The officer was taken to Bucks Co. Hospital with arm injuries. He was later released.

McClay says the vehicle was stolen when the owner left the vehicle running in an effort to warm it up.

A snow squall is an intense, but limited duration, period of moderate to heavy snowfall accompanied by strong, gusty surface winds and possibly lightning, according to the National Weather Service.

"It's a burst of snow," said NBC10 First Alert Meteorologist Michelle Grossman. "Think of it like a thunderstorm in the winter."

Snow squalls often lead to blowing snow, whiteouts and reduced visibilities.

"Snow squalls can drop an inch or two of snow in a short period of time," said Michelle.
