Flyers' Carter Hart Injured, Out at Least 10 Days

Fans who were left scratching their heads at the announced exclusion of Carter Hart from the Philadelphia Flyer's Stadium Series game against the Penguins now have their answer.

The young goalkeeper will miss out on more than just the Stadium Series game after suffering a "lower-body injury" that will see him sit out at least 10 days, the Flyers announced Saturday. The injury means he'll miss at least the next five games.

The injury may explain why interim head coach Scott Gordon left it until late Friday to announce that Hart would miss the Stadium Series game, though it undercuts Gordon's explanation at the time that the goalie's exclusion for the crucial clash against the Penguins was "what's best for the team."

The exact nature of the injury hasn't been disclosed, but Hart's absence will be a huge blow to the team. The 20-year-old has been instrumental in the Flyers' charge toward the playoff spots, amassing 13 wins, 8 losses and one overtime loss in his 22 appearances since joining the side.

Now, the team faces a critical five-game stretch without Hart.

Brian Elliott will be taking over as starting goalkeeper Saturday as the Flyers look to bounce back from a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning and earn crucial points against the Penguins, who are looking to add to their three-game winning streak.

Despite Rain, Stadium Series Game to Go On as Scheduled

The Philadelphia Flyers-Pittsburgh Penguins Stadium Series game will go on despite forecasted rain, the NHL announced Saturday.

The outdoor game was at risk of being postponed due to rain that's expected to last from Saturday evening into Sunday morning. However, the NHL announced that the matchup will go on as scheduled at Lincoln Financial Field.

"While we are expecting a chance of a relatively light amount of precipitation in and around the game window, current forecasts are indicating that we will have playable conditions," the league announced in a news release.

The league added, however, that things may change should weather conditions get worse by game time.

The Flyers are hoping to bounce back from a 5-2 loss against the Tampa Bay Lighting that snapped a three-game winning streak. The Penguins, meanwhile, are looking to add a fourth victory to their current streak.

The Flyers-Penguins matchup will be the 27th outdoor NHL game since 2003. The last time both sides met, the Penguins came out on top with a 4-1 victory on the Flyers' home turf.

Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting at Least 9 Women

Philadelphia police are looking for a serial sexual assault suspect who they say has been targeting women in South Philadelphia.

The male suspect has assaulted nearly 10 women in the last two months, with one attack resulting in rape, the Philadelphia Police Department said. On Friday, police said they had received eight reports. By Saturday, another woman came forward, bringing the total number of victims to at least nine.

"Almost all of our victims were accosted by this gentleman as they were trying to enter either their apartment or a business. So the M.O. is exactly the same," Philadelphia Police Department Capt. Mark Burgman said.

While most of the attacks have been deemed attempted sexual assaults or indecent assaults, the most recent resulted in rape, Burgman said at a Friday evening news conference held to discuss the spate of attacks. The captain said a woman was opening a business around 5 a.m. Friday on the 1900 block of South Bancoft Street when the man pulled a knife on her, pushed her inside and then raped her.

The ninth victim, a 33-year-old woman, came forward Saturday after the department's news conference.

She told police that she was trying to enter her apartment Thursday around 11:30 p.m. on the 400 block of Mifflin Street when a man rode up behind her on his bike, grabbed her by the waist, assaulted her and took off with $50 and her bag, PPD spokeswoman Tanya Little said.

The woman's description of her alleged attacker matches the one of the man who police believe is responsible for the other sexual assaults in the area.

Police say he is African-American, around 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a medium build, dark complexion and a beard. They also say he is between 30 and 50 years old, usually wears dark clothes, rides up behind victims on his bike and pulls a knife on them.

Police first put out an alert about the suspect in January. At that time, he had allegedly assaulted three women in a 10-day period.

Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, who represents South Philadelphia, issued a statement Saturday urging residents who might have any information to reach out to police.

"Women in South Philadelphia should not have to be stressed over their safety when leaving or returning to their homes alone, and locking their doors in fear at night, because a serial predator has not been caught," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the PPD's Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3251/3252.

Powerful Winds to Batter Philadelphia Region

$

The Philadelphia region is set to be pounded by powerful winds that could reach more than 50 mph in some areas.

A First Alert is in effect from 2 p.m. Sunday through 7 p.m. Monday as the strong winds move in and gradually get stronger. The gusts could topple weakened trees and cause scattered power outages.

By mid-afternoon Sunday, winds will reach 30-35 mph. By the evening the gusts ramp up to 45-50 mph and will stay that way through much of the day Monday.

Philadelphia will get gusts about 45 mph, but they'll kick up to as high as 48 mph through the morning commute, meaning drivers - especially those in high profile vehicles - should be extra careful on the roads. People should also secure outdoor items like lawn chairs to make sure the wind doesn't blow them away.

Areas like the Lehigh Valley and Pennsylvania suburbs will experience similar conditions to Philadelphia, but more southeasterly regions like Ocean City and Wildwood Crest will get 50-55 mph gusts.

Things will finally start dying down a bit by Monday night, but gusts will still be anywhere between 35-45 mph.
