Abington Police Warn Parents After Finding Edibles

Abington Township police are warning parents after they found more than 100 baked goods, candy and cereal laced with marijuana during a routine traffic stop.

“We are warning parents because these candies and baked goods are packaged to simply look like candy treats, and this is troubling since it has the potential to attract an unsuspecting child,” Abington Police Chief Pat Molloy said.

The marijuana edibles were found inside a vehicle police pulled over.

“The real danger with drugs packaged in this manner is that innocent children might ingest them, believing that they are just a sweet treat,” Chief Molloy said.  “Additionally there have been instances of people overdosing from ingesting drugs in this manner, since the effect of these laced treats typically take longer.”

Parents are asked to carefully watch what their children are eating, and to contact the police and seek medical assistance if they suspect their kids consumed the laced treats.

Man Secretly Records Girlfriend’s Daughters in Bathroom

A Philadelphia man was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison for using a hidden camera to secretly record his girlfriend’s two underage daughters while they were using the bathroom.

On Aug. 17, 2017, Roger Wallach, 38, was having dinner with his girlfriend when she told him to give his two-month-old son a bath. After he left the room, the woman looked through Wallach’s phone and came across several videos of her two daughters, ages 10 and 11, naked in the bathroom and showering.

In the videos, Wallach could be seen setting up a smart phone to record and then walking out of the bathroom, according to the criminal complaint.

The woman then confronted Wallach who began to cry and apologize, the criminal complaint states. She then contacted Philadelphia police and Wallach was arrested.

The secret recordings occurred over a three-month span.

Wallach pleaded guilty to nine counts of manufacturing and attempting to manufacture child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

After the guilty plea, Wallach admitted to hiding a spy watch in the bathroom which recorded the girls as they undressed and showered.

Wallach also used the webcam on his laptop to record them undressing and sent hundreds of sexually explicit images of the two girls.

In addition to his prison time, Wallach will also have to serve another 20 years of supervised release and undergo sex offender evaluation and treatment.

“Child predators are among the worst type of criminals,” U.S. Attorney William McSwain said.  “They prey on those whose very innocence makes them the most likely to be targeted.  While the lengthy prison sentence and 20-year term of supervised release ordered today does not erase the defendant’s deplorable actions, it is a stern punishment that will help to protect some of society’s most vulnerable victims.”

Squiggles, Ziggy, Squish, Pip or Curiosity Kid?

That’s the question — in bright purple letters — that Please Touch Museum wants its visitors to answer.

Four months after updating its visual brand, the Fairmount Park children’s museum is taking votes on the name of its new mascot.

Please Touch Museum chose to rebrand in May, but held off on naming its mascot until this fall. The character, inspired by children’s drawings, is a compact figure with enormous eyes and wild hair.

Founded in 1976 by a Montessori educator, Please Touch Museum began as a pilot project in Philadelphia’s Academy of Natural Sciences, "nestled among the dinosaur skeletons and woolly mammoths"

In 1983, it relocated to a three-story building in the heart of Philly’s museum district, and in 2008, it opened the doors of its current location in Memorial Hall.

Web visitors can vote for their favorite name out of the final five through September 25th.

The winner will be announced at Please Touch Museum’s birthday party event October 7th.
