The search for a woman who fell into the Pennypack Creek in Philadelphia Saturday evening continued into Sunday.

The 30-year-old woman's boyfriend told police they were taking pictures in a storm drain around 6:15 p.m. Saturday near Sandyford and Ryan avenues when the water swept her away. A flash flood warning was in place at the time.

Kayla Pratt, who lives nearby, told NBC10 she heard the woman's boyfriend screaming.

"He was like, 'Me and my girlfriend were sitting on a drain. I can't find her. She got washed away,'" Pratt said.

The creek was at least 10-feet deep at the time.

"It's actually very dangerous because once the storm happens, the water will get really, really high," Richard Hurst, who also lives nearby, told NBC10.

A marine unit searched until about 9 p.m. Saturday and resumed the effort Sunday.

Eight people were arrested after several brawls broke out at the Hamilton Mall Saturday.

Police were on patrol at the Hamilton Mall in Hamilton Township, New Jersey for a report of an advertised fight on social media between juveniles. Several smaller fights occurred at the mall earlier in the day which led to the arrest of a teen girl who was charged with disorderly conduct.

Saturday night, police received reports of large groups of teens gathering in several areas of the mall with one of the groups in the food court area. As police tried to escort several teens out of the mall for disorderly conduct, several chairs and other debris were thrown, officials said. Several fights also broke out.

A Hamilton Township police supervisor suffered a minor injury during the fight. He was treated at AtlantiCare Hospital and released.

Amir Vaughn, 18, of Mays Landing, Theron Parrish-Jordan, 18, of Mays Landing, were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Five other juvenile males were also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

1 Killed, Another Trapped When Rowhome Collapses During Demo

A construction worker is dead after a rowhome under demolition in North Philadelphia partially collapsed on Monday, trapping him and another worker in the rubble.

The collapse happened at 10:50 a.m. on Monday at 1501 N. Bailey Street.

Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel said two workers were trapped inside the building when it came down.

One worker was able to escape the rubble on his own before firefighters arrived, Thiel said. He was not seriously injured.

"We saw two people digging. And we heard somebody under the ground say 'Hurry, hurry, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, help me,'" Tracy Ratterea, a witness, told NBC10.

Two crews and 40 firefighters spent 15 minutes sifting through brick and debris before finding the other worker, identified by family and friends as Harvey Figgs.

"He was actually in a very difficult spot inside the building," Thiel said.

Figgs was put onto a stretcher, but died at the scene.

"I worked with this guy for years," Walter Johnson, a friend of Figgs, told NBC10. "He was a damn good worker. Damn good worker. Ran his own crews and everything. One of the best."

The building is owned by Rollup LLC. NBC10 reached out to them but we have not yet heard back.

City property records listed the building as structurally compromised and the building had been deemed unsafe by L&I in May of 2017. A demolition permit wasn't issued until February. The permit included a requirement that all demolition work be done by "hand method only" without cranes or backhoes.

Gama Wrecking, the demolition company handling the property, has dealt with other issues in the past.

In April, 2014, two Gama workers were injured when they were hit by falling debris at a property in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia. During that incident, L&I determined Gama Wrecking, which is a licensed contractor in the city, was not at fault.

L&I continues to investigate the cause of Monday's collapse.

Teen Stabs Another Student at High School, Police Say

A student accused of stabbing another high school student in a stairwell during the last week of classes is now in custody.

The 14-year-old student was taken in by police though he has not yet been offically charged, Upper Darby Chief of Police Michael Chitwood told NBC10.

The teen is accused of stabbing a 15-year-old Upper Darby High School freshman several times in the stairwell Monday. The victim suffered stab wounds to the back of the neck and head.

"He leaves the hallway, goes into the stairwell," Chitwood said. "As he goes into the stairwell, apparently he's assaulted and attacked by another student."

Investigators say the suspect and victim were arguing over a girl. The suspect will be charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and terroristic threats, officials said. He has no prior criminal record.

The victim was transported to the Lankenau Medical Center and went into surgery. He is listed as stable.

"School security is always something on my mind but they always have security guards all around," Hunter Danbury, a freshman at Upper Darby High School, told NBC10. "So I don't know how this student got the knife in."

The Upper Darby School District worked with local police on their criminal investigation, according to superintendent Dan Nerelli.

“I am sorry to have to deliver such difficult news today and know that you will all join me in keeping our injured student in your thoughts and prayers,” Nerelli said in an email to parents.

Chitwood told NBC10 surveillance video captured the aftermath and what led to the stabbing but not the actual incident.

Camden High School Performs First Play in 45 Years

The largest public high school in Camden, New Jersey, put on their first stage performance in 45 years this past Friday with the help of 40 students and a social studies teacher.

Woodrow Wilson High School's opening performance of "The Lion King" was held Friday June 1 in the school’s auditorium and again in front of the district’s elementary school students early Monday morning.

About 40 students participated in the play from both on-stage and behind the scenes roles.

A combination of lack of interest in theatre and tight funding led to an absence of stage performances over the last few decades. However, theatre director Andrew Boettcher believes that the performance could be a positive sign for future shows.

"These students have worked incredibly hard and overcame the toughest of obstacles to make this show a success," said Boettcher, a social studies teacher at Woodrow Wilson. "I cannot write enough words that speak to their fortitude, endurance, and dedication to this project. They have truly done the impossible."

This is a big step for the Camden public school system that has gone through positive changes over the last few years. Former superintendent of Camden Public School's Paymon Rouhanifard is credited with drastically improving multiple areas of the school district. He is credited for improving graduation rates by 17 percent, and tripling math scores during his tenure. In addition, the dropout rate for his schools was nearly cut in half.

Woodrow Wilson is one of many public schools in the city that has struggled to gain funding for its programs for the last several years. Boettcher hopes the district will continue stage productions in the coming years as a way to engage students.

"It gives kids a reason to come to school, turns bullies into leaders, turns shy kids into superstars," Boettcher said.

"Watching the kids smile after the performance, taking pride in their school made me so proud of them."
