A woman is under arrest after police say she overdosed and crashed her vehicle on I-76 in Gloucester City, Camden County while a child was inside.

The crash occurred on I-76 near the ramp to 295 North shortly before 9:40 p.m. Sunday night. Police say the female driver and male passenger had both overdosed. A child was also inside the vehicle but was not injured.

Both adults were taken to the Cooper Medical Center and the woman was placed under arrest while at the hospital. Police have not yet revealed their conditions or what drug they allegedly used. They also have not yet revealed whether the woman is the child's mother.

New Jersey saw a 22 percent increase in deadly drug overdoses between 2014 and 2015 and a 30 percent increase in heroin deaths between 2015 and 2016, according to the Christie administration. Earlier this year, Governor Christie signed an executive order declaring opioid drug use a public health crisis and establishing a drug task force.

April Is Back! World-Famous NY Giraffe Cam Returns This Week

Devoted fans of April the giraffe lost their link to her on Friday when her round-the-clock live stream went dark -- but it turns out she's coming back this week for a limited engagement.

Animal Adventure Park's "Giraffe Cam" was turned off at 4:30 p.m. ET Friday, almost two months after the pregnant giraffe was catapulted onto the world stage.

But this weekend, the Harpursville, New York, zoo she calls home said her withdrawal from public life was only temporary.

"The Giraffe Cam is not gone forever! This week we will announce viewing day/times for you to check in and watch progress!" the zoo said in a Facebook post Sunday morning.

Since late February, April's daily eating, sleeping, strolling, camera-licking and tail-flicking was broadcast to a loyal and adoring audience waiting in anticipation to see her deliver her fourth calf.

After a patient wait, the male calf was born earlier this month, to the delight of a global live audience that has sometimes numbered in the tens of millions.

Animal Adventure Park is offering the public a chance to give him a name at nameaprilscalf.com, where anyone who wants to vote on a name can do so for $1 per vote. There is a five-vote minimum, and people can vote as many times as they want.

The zoo said Sunday that the first round of results from the naming contest would be revealed early this week, with a winner tentatively scheduled for May 1.

Funds raised will be split between the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, Ava's Little Heroes and Animal Adventure Park.

April's little calf stands 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds, Animal Adventure Park reports.

"All is well and baby continues to grow, he is now looking us in the eyes!" they said Sunday.

April, 15, teased her millions of global adorers for weeks before he was born, showing signs of near-but-not-quite labor and enchanting her audience with cute right-at-the-camera gazes and tongue flicks, snack noshing and nuzzling with her much younger 5-year-old beau Oliver.

April's pregnancy was originally vaulted into global headlines in late February after YouTube briefly yanked the zoo's live stream following complaints by animal activists that it violated the site's policies concerning "nudity and sexual content." Thousands upon thousands of social media users voiced their frustration on Facebook and YouTube, and the stream was restored within an hour or so.

Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch said the natural curiosity surrounding giraffes and their birthing process was a huge factor in drawing crowds.

"I think the fact that she's a giraffe and she's a neat species that people are interested in, that's fostered a lot of the attention," he said. "The fact that you'll get to witness the miracle of birth from an animal that you really don't get to see give birth — that's neat."

He added that April's pregnancy was more than just live entertainment, but a teachable moment and source for education.

4 Die Within 24 Hours After Separate Murders in Philly

In the last 24 hours, 4 people have died after a string of separate homicides in Philadelphia.

The first incident happened just before 2:30 a.m. on April 23. Police responded to the 3000 block of Ruth Street where police found 41-year-old Marisol Garcia-Infante unresponsive and lying on a bedroom floor in a pool of blood around her head.

Outside of the scene, a 43-year-old man approached police and said he struck the victim on the head with a hammer. He is charged with murder and possession of an instrument of crime.

The second incident occurred in the East Germantown section of Philadelphia. Police responded to reports of shots fired on the 5700 block of McMahon Street. When police arrived they found a 20-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his head and lower midsection. He was transported to Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 2:57 p.m. Sunday

A few hours later, police responded to another shooting in the Tacony section of Philadelphia. A 20-year-old man was shot under the left armpit on the 6900 block of Hegerman Street just after 5:15 p.m. Sunday Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The last incident occurred just after midnight on Monday in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. Police arrived at a home on East Penn Street where they saw a man with a gun in a holster running out a side door. A 22-year-old victim was shot in the neck, chest and arms and was pronounced dead at the scene. A suspect has been taken into custody.

Police said the two men were arguing in a third floor apartment when one shot the other. Earlier this month, Philadelphia Police spokesman Capt. Sekou Kinebrew told NBC10 most homicides are the result of an argument.

He added that these arguments are not necessarily between friends, relatives or even people who know each other. They are “disputes that turn violent,” Kinebrew said.

Philadelphia's homicide rate is trending up compared to this time last year. However, last year's numbers also appeared to be on the rise at mid-year but leveled out by December, Kinebrew said.

According to Philadelphia Police, the year-to-date number of homicides in the city is 94—up 13 from this time last year, when the number was 81 homicides. At the end of 2016, 278 people were victims of homicide.

The string of homicides was followed by another shooting inside a home in Southwest Philadelphia Monday morning. Police say a teen attempted to wake a friend for school by tapping him on the face with a gun and accidentally shot him in the eye, leaving him in critical condition.

The parents of a 3-year-old boy and another woman have been charged with endangering the child while using drugs in a Pennsylvania hotel room.

South Abington Township police went to the Nichols Village hotel on Saturday after a parent reported concerns that 20-year-old Kayla Thurston was using drugs there. Police say they found Thurston with a couple, 20-year-old Ariel Burke and 22-year-old David Button in the room using marijuana, and possessing methamphetamine and a generic form of Suboxone, a drug used to treat heroin addicts that is sometimes abused itself.

Police say Burke and Button's son was running around unsupervised. He's been placed with a responsible family member.

All three have been arraigned on drug possession and the endangerment charge. Their custody status wasn't clear in court records Monday.

Officials Announce Delaware Drug Take-Back Locations

Delaware officials are giving residents the chance to get rid of prescription medications they no longer need. Delaware's Drug Take-Back Day is set to take place on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Delaware Attorney General Matt Denn, Senator Thomas Carper and Senator Chris Coons made the announcement at the Walgreens store pharmacy in the Fairfax Shopping Center on 2119 Concord Pike in Wilmington, Delaware Monday morning. They were joined by officials with Walgreens, the DEA and the Division of Public Health.

National studies show two thirds of people who misuse prescription drugs get them from the medicine cabinets of friends and families. Delaware health officials say over 20 state residents overdosed over the weekend and two of them died.

"So putting aside overdoses of prescription opioids which is bad enough, there is every reason to believe that access to unauthorized presciption opioids directly contributes to heroin and fentanyl abuse," Senator Denn said.

Drug Take-Back boxes will be set up at locations throughout Delaware during Saturday's event. The sites will be at the following locations:

A burglar dressed up as a trash bag was caught on camera stealing money from a store in Gloucester County.

The theft happened at 12:04 a.m. back on April 11 at Yogi’s Quick Shop on Greentree Road in Washington Township, New Jersey.

In the surveillance video, a burglar wearing trash bags smashes through the front door of the store and jumps over the counter. He then struggles to carry the cash register as he climbs back up over the counter and knocks over a display of candy in the process. He then finally pulls the cash register loose and flees the scene. Police say around $200 was inside the stolen register.

Yogi’s was also burglarized in January though the suspect in that incident was later captured.

If you have any information on the most recent theft, please call Washington Township Police Detective Sean Jackson at 856-589-0330 Extension 1142.

A babysitter is accused of kidnapping two young boys in Delaware leading to an Amber Alert over the weekend.

Michelle Rogers, 50, of Wilmington, is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of kidnapping.

Investigators say Rogers was with a 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old boy who she was babysitting at a home on the 500 block of Sherman Street in Wilmington on Wednesday around 9:45 a.m. when all three went missing.

The boys were reported missing after Wilmington police received a call shortly before 10 p.m. Friday. Troopers did not say who called to report the children missing or why it took more than two days since they were last seen Wednesday morning to call police.

On Saturday police issued an Amber Alert for the missing children. They were both found unharmed shortly after and Rogers was taken into custody. Her bail is set at $82,000.

Philly Mayor Kenney: Legalize Pot like Colorado

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney came out in favor of legalizing marijuana one day after 22 people were arrested at a pot party early Sunday morning.

“The real solution is to legalize it in the state of Pennsylvania as they did in Colorado and we won’t have to use police resources in these kinds of activities,” Kenney told a group of reporters Monday morning.

The so-called “Philly Smoke Session” was organized via social media and held in a Frankford warehouse. Three women and 19 men were arrested. Police confiscated 50 pounds of marijuana, $50,000 in cash, four handguns and several edibles.

Police said they had been planning a bust for two months. Kenney was not aware of their investigation.

“I don’t micromanage the police department and they don’t tell us what they were doing,” the mayor said.

Pennsylvania State Sen. Daylin Leach, who co-sponsored a medical marijuana bill, told NBC10 Friday that he is also in favor of legalizing cannabis. Leach and his co-sponsor on the bill, Sen. Mike Folmer, were both attending the World Medical Marijuana Conference & Expo in Pittsburgh. Folmer used cannabis-based treatment to help cope with chemotherapy while battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

In March, Gov. Tom Wolf said Pennsylvania is not ready for full legalization.

Meanwhile, Delaware Gov. John Carney is weighing whether or not to introduce recreational legislation to his state.

A robber followed an elderly man home and then attacked him as well as his wife before stealing his lottery tickets in West Philadelphia last week.

The 86-year-old victim was walking home after leaving a fruit market and lottery store at 2:30 p.m. back on April 19 when he was approached by an unidentified man near 61st and Market streets, police said. The suspect asked the man where the money was while holding a razor blade. The victim ignored him however and continued walking home unaware that the suspect was following him.

When the victim walked into his home the suspect followed him inside and attacked him from behind, knocking him down and punching him several times in the face, police said. The victim’s 83-year-old wife walked into the room and the suspect grabbed her by the neck. The victim frisked the elderly man and stole between $50 to $60 worth of lottery tickets from his pants pocket and then fled in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a dark hooded zip-up sweatshirt with a lime green t-shirt underneath, black knit hat and dark jeans.
If you have any information on his whereabouts, please call Philadelphia Police.
