Tesla Recalls 53K Model S & Model X for Brake Issue

Tesla is voluntarily recalling 53,000 Model S and Model X vehicles over a potential issue that could prevent the parking brake from releasing, CNBC reported.

The company issued an update Thursday saying electric parking brakes installed on Model S and Model X vehicles built between February and October 2016 "may contain a small gear that could have been manufactured improperly by our third-party supplier."

"We do not believe this issue could ever lead to a safety concern for our customers, and we have not seen a single accident or injury relating to it," said Tesla on its website Thursday. "However, in order to be overly cautious, we are going to be proactively replacing these parts to ensure that no issues arise."

Tesla estimates that only 5 percent of the cars it is recalling will be affected and that the replacement will take about 45 minutes.

'The Best Prom in America' Bans Promposals

Every high school senior dreams of attending their senior prom.

What better way to top off your high school career then to be 'promposed' to?

For Pennsbury High School students in Bucks County, 'promposals' are now a thing of the past.

The Levittown high school is known for having the “Best Prom in America”.

Attempting to gain social media views, high school students ask prospective dates to prom in over-the-top ways.

The district now says 'promposals' are too attention-getting.

There are too many students are changing classes in the hallways which can effect safety, the administration argues.

[[45719227,C]]

So now, 'promposals' are banned during schools hours at Pennsbury and not everyone is happy about it.

“We have the best prom in America ….and I think its something we should definitely keep.” one student said.

“I don’t agree with it. I think it’s wrong.” A Pennsbury senior said.

“I think it's important to express our creativity.” Another student argued.

School officials did not say 'promposals' are banned completely.

They are allowed before and after school and must occur outside of the school building.

Outside of school hours, the students at Pennsbury are more than welcome to be 'promposed' to even if it’s only for social media views.

April Tropical Storm Kicks off 2017 Hurricane Season Early

Since the weather satellite era began in the 1960's, Arlene is only the second named storm known to form in the Atlantic basin during the month of April. The first was Ana in 2003. Even more remarkable is the fact they both developed on April 20th.

According to forecasters at the National Hurricane Center, Arlene is not expected to pose any threat to land and as of 5:00 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time Thursday was located at 37.7N 42.0W about 800 miles west of the Azores Islands with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, a minimum pressure of 993mb and is moving west-northwest at 22 knots. The storm is expected to dissipate far out in the central North Atlantic on Friday.

[[420033493, C]]

Tropical season in the Atlantic basin officially begins June 1st and ends November 30th each year, which is what makes Arlene so rare.

This year, the tropical outlook from Dr. Phil Klotzbach and researchers at Colorado State University calls for 2017 season to be slightly less active than average with 11 named storms including 4 hurricanes, 2 of which are major hurricanes category 3 or higher.

For comparison, an average season would have 12 named storms including 6 hurricanes, two of which would be major hurricanes.

[[420033533, C]]

The expected downtick in named storms is due to cooler than average water in the far north Atlantic and the possibility of a weak El Nino pattern developing which creates stronger westerly winds in the upper atmosphere that can shear apart storms in the Atlantic.

The 2017 tropical outlook will be updated again on June 1st but at this point we can be guaranteed of at least 1 named storm in 2017.

A New Jersey grandfather has been reprieved from deportation.

Catalino Guerrero, an undocumented immigrant, won't have to go back to Mexico after spending some two dozen years in the U.S.

The official notice of a one-year extension was granted at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Newark. His wife Margarita, who was told for the first time to report there, was also allowed to stay.

He hugged his children and grandchildren outside the building afterward.

His attorney Cesar Estela says the Guerreros had a quiet embrace when they learned the news.

"Now the real work gets started," Estela said, referring to the long process to get the two green cards.

Last month, Guerrero had gone to the same building flanked by Sen. Robert Menendez and Cardinal Joseph Tobin to turn himself in, not knowing if he wouldd be deported. Supporters flanked him as he walked into the building.

His young granddaughter told News 4 in tears at the time, "He has a part in my life and if he goes away, that part of my life will break."

When Steve Stephens shot and killed an elderly man at random in Cleveland Sunday, he blamed his ex-girlfriend, who now tells NBC News she was stunned and devastated as she watched the man she'd loved boast on Facebook of targeting people because of her.

The woman, whom NBC News isn't naming because police haven't released her identity, said in an extensive interview that she and Stephens had recently been looking for wedding rings. But he suddenly called her on Saturday to tell her to "throw away his stuff" because the relationship was over.

A day later, he killed Robert Godwin, 74, and posted video of the attack to Facebook. Stephens was tracked down in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, and he killed himself as state police pursued him.

The ex-girlfriend, a 42-year-old social worker, said "my mouth fell open" as she watched her Stephens stream live video from in front of her workplace Sunday, saying "this is where [she] works" and outlined his plans.

A 22-year-old postal worker in New Jersey is accused of arranging to have cocaine delivered to homes via United States Postal Service while she believed the homeowners were on vacation, authorities say.

Amanda Cruz of Newark was working as a U.S. Postal Service mailwoman when she made an arrangement to smuggle cocaine from Puerto Rico to the U.S. in June 2016, according to Essex County prosecutors.

She had kilos of the drug delivered to various addresses in Short Hills where she thought the residents were on vacation, prosecutors said.

Cruz is facing a charge of first-degree narcotics violation. It's not clear if she's retained an attorney.

A message has been left with the U.S. Postal Service.
