Armed robbers burst into a Northeast Philadelphia couple's home overnight and held the husband, who is legally blind, at gunpoint.

Police say the couple, who are in their 40s, were in their home on Hellerman Street near Cranford Avenue, in Oxford Circle, early Tuesday evening when two armed men went into the home through the front door.

The men held a gun to the legally blind husband's neck in the home and stole $275 and the homeowner's handgun before fleeing.

The entire incident was captured on the couple's home surveillance system, police said. The men fled in a black Jeep Wrangler.

No arrests were reported Wednesday.

Philly Takes Steps to Curb Tobacco Sales

Philadelphia is taking steps to curb tobacco sales -- particularly to youth -- in its city.

The plan will try to limit the number of stores selling cigarettes and other tobacco products in low-income neighborhoods.

It will also increase the annual fee for retailers selling tobacco from $50 to $300. Additional details of the plan were expected to be officially announced Wednesday.

The plan comes on the heels of an increased cigarette tax that went into effect across Pennsylvania and added to the hefty price of a pack of cigarettes in Philadelphia, where the city places an additional $2 tax on each pack.

Bucks Fire Station Honors Neighbors for Help in Barn Fire

A Bucks County fire station on Wednesday night will recognize a group of neighbors who stepped up to help local firefighters put out a barn fire in late August.

The neighbors from Richardson Avenue in Bensalem Township — Christopher Schick, Bob Haskins, Joe Robinson, and Tom Nolan — will be honored and thanked by the Cornwells Fire Company for helping firefighters battle an aggressive barn fire in the Bensalem area. The men jumped in to help drag a heavy hose down the street so firefighters could put out the blaze.

The recognition will take place during the station’s annual fire prevention open house Wednesday evening.

On Aug. 21, fire erupted inside a barn on the 100 block of Tennis Avenue.

Michelle Heil, a witness, took pictures of the incident. She captured an image of nearby residents lending a hand to the firefighters and posted it on her Facebook page.

Two firefighters, one from the Cornwells Fire Company and the other from the Union Fire Company, suffered minor injuries while trying to put out the fire. They fully recovered.

Delaware Man Single-Handedly Cleaning Up Wilmington Park

Over the past couple of years, residents of Wilmington, Delaware, have noticed the conditions of Haynes Park improving. Once full of trash and litter, the park is now practically spotless. The effort is thanks to one man with a whole lot of pride in his neighborhood.

“The reason I started was because there was so much trash, everywhere, there was trash all over the entire park- on the playground, and the basketball court, everything- and I just decided to clean it,” explains 62-year-old Walter Graham.

Neighbors know him as Mr. Sonny and he has been taking care of Haynes Park for almost 4 years.

After suffering four strokes, Mr. Sonny decided to start cleaning the park. Not only does it help keep the community looking nice, but it is also therapeutic.

“People thought I was crazy! They said, “What are you cleaning the park for? You don’t work for the city,'” said Mr. Sonny, who has been unable to return to work following the strokes. “It keeps me working, keeps me doing things, but it also keeps me out of depression.”

When he began cleaning, he was able to fill four buckets full of litter. Now, it’s down to half a bucket. His work has clearly influenced park-goers to keep their community looking neat and tidy.

“Because of Mr. Sonny, the boys playing basketball are holding each other responsible for cleaning up their trash; similarly, kids on the playground are using the trash can more and more each day,” writes Lynn-Holly Oates, who first highlighted Mr. Sonny in a Facebook post. “For Mr. Sonny, this is the ultimate sign of respect and a symbol that we can build meaningful and positive relationships between community members- across generations- by our actions.”

Mr. Sonny is proud of the influence he had in the community and admits he has no plans of slowing down the clean-up effort.

“We’re going to keep this neighborhood looking good, because that’s what it’s all about- taking care of your neighborhood,” explains Sonny. “This is our neighborhood, and I don’t care if I’m the only one doing it- I’m going to keep on doing it until I can’t do it anymore.”

Go Home With Eagles Star QB Carson Wentz

He may be the most popular person to grace Philadelphia since Ben Franklin, but at heart Eagles star quarterback Carson Wentz is really just a humble guy from North Dakota.

A true Midwesterner who loves his family and faith, Wentz is a hero in the City of Brotherly Love, but he’s a god in Bismarck.

NBC10 and CSN traveled to Carson Country earlier this month to explore Wentz’s roots -- speaking with family, friends and coaches.

From the time he was just a boy, they remember him as a quiet, yet determined kid who loved to play football and hated to lose a game.

On Friday at 7 p.m., CSN’s John Clark will take you inside Wentz world in a half-hour special program "From Wentz He Came."

Shot during the Eagles’ bye week, you’ll visit Wentz’ alma mater, Century High School, and see him honored during a homecoming game at North Dakota State University in Fargo.

“Carson Wentz is the pride of the entire state of North Dakota which is why they have adopted the Philadelphia Eagles as their team,” said Anzio Williams, Vice President of News for NBC10 and Telemundo62. “Through this news special, NBC10 and CNS brings Eagles and Carson Wentz fans an exclusive look at his roots through one-on-one videos with the people that know him best.”

You’ll be able to watch “From Wentz He Came” on NBC10, NBC10.com and CSN starting Friday night at 7 p.m. The special will be available on demand on the NBC10 app following the premiere. It will also be re-aired on TV several times over the coming weeks.

Fans will also be able explore exclusive content, stories and interviews that were not included in the special within a special section on NBC10.com and the NBC10 app.

Fog and Isolated Showers Thursday

So we’ve mentioned increasing clouds and the likelihood of passing showers tomorrow. While we’re currently under the influence of a high pressure system, a weak cold front passes tomorrow. Keep in mind they’re not widespread, but it does look like Philly Metro could get an isolated shower. I’ve included two models below (long and short range) for a more colorful explanation of the passing showers.

Notice in the long range model (GFS) the front stay mainly north but in the short range model (NAM) it dips a bit lower and brings the scattered showers farther south.

As for tonight, you'll see a few clouds develop as we get a bit of an onshore push, but we'll stay dry. By tonight we'll see some fog developing and it really does look like most of us will have to deal with the fog, but it will be more dense along the shoreline and just WNW of Philly. Below you’ll see three graphs of the expected fog time frames…

Police are searching for two men who they believe broke into a woman’s Plymouth Township home, cloned her credit cards and then bought hundreds of dollars’ worth of cigarettes and candy from a Wawa store.

Police say the unidentified men went into an unlocked home in Plymouth Township back on Sept. 22. Police believe the men then took the homeowner’s credit cards while she and her children were sleeping, cloned the cards and then left the original cards behind.

The suspects then went into a Wawa store in Whitemarsh Township where they used the cloned credit cards to buy hundreds of dollars’ worth of cigarettes and candy, police said. One of the suspects was spotted on surveillance video eating sour patch kids, according to investigators.

Police say the men were also spotted on video walking in several other towns the morning of Sept. 22 and fear that they may have stolen from other victims.

If you have any information on the incident, please call Plymouth Township Police.
