Philadelphia Police say that a dismembered body pulled out of the Schuylkill River has been identified as a missing Northeast Philadelphia man.
40-year-old Frank Zarzycki was reported missing by his family a week ago.
Zarzycki's body was found by a fisherman inside a bag along the river near the 1300 block of Schuylkill Avenue in the city’s Grays Ferry neighborhood around 8 a.m. yesterday morning.
He was identified by some distinctive tattoos on his body.
Tonight, investigators spent hours searching a building at 11th and Locust Streets, directly across from Jefferson Hospital. Sources tell NBC10 that Zarzycki was spending time in an apartment there.
Detectives removed boxes of evidence from a second floor apartment that could help them figure out whether Zarzycki was killed there before his body was thrown in the river.
Residents who live nearby were stunned to hear about what happened.
"This is a very safe area. I'm walking here right now by myself, just saw a movie. I'm just shocked," said Chris Lipczynski, neighbor.
