A teenage girl is speaking out after her boyfriend was allegedly attacked by a group of catcallers in Southwest Philadelphia.
The 17-year-old girl, who did not want to be identified, told NBC10 she was with her 20-year-old boyfriend as well as her sister on the 6500 block of Dicks Avenue around midnight when they were approached by a group of men.
“Three guys started catcalling me,” the girl said. “My boyfriend was standing next to me. He started to say, ‘That’s rude. That’s disrespectful. I’m her boyfriend and I’m right here.’”
The girl says the men then approached her boyfriend.
“They kind of made a circle around him,” she said. “They were pretty large guys. Then one man standing in front of him came out of nowhere and punched him on the side of the jaw.”
The punch knocked the man unconscious and the men fled the scene.
“Half of his jaw was separated,” the girl said. “I was screaming. My sister was screaming and people stopped. The cops came eventually.”
The man was taken to Hahnemann Hospital where his girlfriend is staying by his side.
“He’s in really bad pain,” she said. “His mouth is bleeding constantly. He will have to have surgery to get his jaw wired shut.”
The Southwest Detective Division confirmed with NBC10 they are investigating the assault though they have not yet revealed specific details on the case.
