NBC10 Philadelphia expands its high school sports coverage with the debut of a weekly high school football show, a “Game of the Week” feature, new online content and increased viewer engagement through social media.
The station’s efforts kick-off in late summer with the debut of “NBC10 High School Blitz” on Saturday, August 31 at 7 p.m. Hosted by NBC10’s John Clark and Jillian Mele, the show will celebrate the intense rivalries and passionate fans of high school football, and will include extensive highlights and scores from Friday and Saturday games across the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware viewing area. Two segments in the new show, ‘Game of the Week’ and ‘Play of the Week,’ will highlight the area’s most dynamic matchups and talented players.
“NBC10 is committed to bringing the excitement of high school football into our viewers’ homes,” said Anzio Williams, Vice President of News for NBC10. “We’re pleased to have the opportunity to showcase some exceptional talent from across the region.”
Social media will play an important role in the show, as the “Game of the Week” will be chosen exclusively by viewers. Through online voting, texting and phone calls, viewers and fans can select one of four compelling Friday night football matchups every week. The winning game will be announced every Wednesday on NBC10 News at 11 p.m. The matchup will receive extended post-game coverage on NBC10 News Fridays at 11 PM and will be the subject of a special feature in “High School Blitz,” which airs on Saturday evenings at 7 p.m.
“The ‘Game of The Week’ gives our viewers and online audience a voice,” said Yoni Greenbaum, Director of Digital Media for NBC10. “Every week, they will have a unique and exciting opportunity to determine our sports coverage.”
In addition to the weekly broadcast on NBC10, “High School Blitz” will air on The Comcast Network Mondays at 6 p.m. and on Comcast SportsNet Wednesdays at 4 p.m. The program will also be available through XFINITY On Demand under the Get Local / Sports / NBC10 Sports category.
NBC10.com, the station’s website, will feature special content on the “High School Blitz” page, to be located on the station’s homepage. Visitors can upload their own clips and photos of area high school football games, review updated scores and vote for the “Game of the Week.”
Voting for the first “Game of the Week” matchup will begin at 12 p.m. on Thursday, August 22. To vote by phone, fans can call 610-624-4111. To vote online or via SMS, fans should visit NBC10.com.
