Falling Wood Crushes Truck's Cab

Big sheets of plywood came crashing down onto the cab of a work truck in Center City Philadelphia, putting a sizable dent into the cab and disrupting traffic near the intersection of 15th and Chestnut.

The accident happened around 11 a.m. when a worker was using the boom crane on a Tague Lumber truck to get the wood through an upper-floor window of a building on 15th.

No one was hurt.

Licenses and Inspections (L&I)Commissioner Carlton Williams explained in a statement that the wood somehow became dislodged from the crane and fell. The contractor on site, Clemens Construction, had the required permits, Williams said, adding that crane vehicles are regulated by the Federal Department of Transportation and not by L&I.

The Tague Lumber truck was working right outside the offices of City Paper. They posted a picture on their website, speculating that it might have been a stack of sheet rock instead of plywood.

Another car that was passing by was also damaged, according to City Paper.
