$1.2M to Woman Hurt by J&J Mesh Implant

A Dallas jury has ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay Linda Batiste, a 64-year-old woman injured by one of the company’s pelvic mesh implants, $1.2 million in compensatory damages.

The ruling marks the first verdict in the more than 12,000 lawsuits involving the devices that have been filed against the New Brunswick, N.J., health-care company.

Last week, the Department of Justice said it was reviewing a request from the Corporate Action Network, a consumer advocacy organization, for an investigation of Johnson & Johnson and its Ethicon subsidiary after a judge in West Virginia found the company improperly destroyed or lost files related to its vaginal mesh implants.
