A 14-year-old who attends The Independence School in Newark has won the Delaware Geographic Bee.
The Wilmington News Journal reports Sohan Shah won the bee Friday by correctly answering the question: What sea in the Arctic Ocean separates the Taymyr Peninsula from the Novaya Zemlya archipelago?
The right answer: The Kara Sea.
Shah, an eighth grader, beat out nine other fourth through eighth grade students during the final round of the bee.
Shah won $100 and a trip to Washington to compete in the National Geographic Bee. The winner of the national bee in May will get a $50,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
