A Burlington County woman has turned herself into police admitting she drove away after hitting a man with her car who was helping at an accident scene.

Pennsauken Police say Lita Hursey, 30, of Maple Shade, N.J., said she was aware she hit Ronale Thomas with her car early Sunday morning in the eastbound lanes of the Admiral Wilson Boulevard in Pennsauken, N.J. Thomas was standing in the roadway offering help to a pedestrian he had hit with his work van.

After hitting Thomas, Hursey drove away leaving both men lying on the roadway, police said.

Both Thomas and the man he hit, identified as 31-year-old Victor Gutierrez, were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Gutierrez later died, police said. Thomas remains hospitalized and just underwent a second surgery, according to officials.

Hursey is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, a 3rd degree offense. She also faces reckless driving and failure to report an accident violations. She is due in a Camden County court next week.

Police say Thomas will not face any charges related to the death of Gutierrez.
