Fire tore through a colonial-style South Jersey home early this morning leaving one man dead.

The blaze broke out along East Avenue near Main Street in Mullica Hill, N.J. shortly after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Gloucester County dispatchers.

A woman from inside the home called 911, according to family members.

That woman and her adult son were able to escape the smoky blaze. Her husband Ron Stewart, however, didn't make it out. Stewart, 62, died on the second floor of the two-story home, according to the Gloucester county Prosecutor's Office.

The fire continued to burn out of control for hours.

As Sky Force10 hovered overhead, firefighters could be seen battling the blaze ans heavy white smoke poured from the windows of the large white house. More than two hours after the fire began, flames continued to shoot from the roof of the home.

The American Red Cross helped Stewart's family.
