A dangerous spin out on Interstate 95 on the day after the latest storm of this winter pounded the region.
The driver of a dark-colored sedan lost control around 6:40 a.m. on Wednesday along I-95 South near the interchange for the Vine Street Expressway.
An NBC10 SkyCam captured the car facing the wrong direction in the center lane of the ramp -- the driver flipping on his hazard lights to warn others that he was stuck there.
Even with the lights, cars and trucks continued to speed by the disabled vehicle.
Police were able to get to the driver about 15 minutes later and position their cruisers in front of the car to prevent an accident. They also closed two lanes of the road as they awaited a tow truck.
That driver wasn't the only one who got turned around. There were a number of other spin outs during the morning rush -- including one crash on I-76 near the Roosevelt Boulevard interchange and another on U.S. 1 Northbound near Wissahickon Ave.
With the winter storm moving out and single digit temperatures moving in, freezing on roadways is now the biggest concern.
PennDOT officials said they were using a mixture of salt and calcium chloride to better combat potential icing.
"We need moisture in the salt so...we want to make sure that it's going to break the structure of any type of ice or any type of bonding that forms to our roadways," PennDOT spokesman Nick Martino said late Tuesday.
