A local salon offered free services to about 50 homeless women Tuesday.
Xquisite Hair Design in Wyncote hosted its third annual "Xquisitely Done" event on Christmas Eve.
"Many families are struggling at this time of year," said Rasheena Stewart, salon manager. "We hope to provide these women a memorable Christmas Eve that will also help get them back on their feet again."
Women from four shelters - Family House, Women Walking in Victory, Stenton Family Manor and Trevor House - received hair and beauty services and could take home donated toiletries, shoes and winter coats.
"It's hard," said Khyia McCrea-Broad, a mother of four living in a shelter. "It's a struggle when you want your kids to have everything everybody else has."
Nearly 15 employees volunteer their services each year, missing out on nearly $2,500 in profit. But the staff says the makeovers are a good first step for the women-in-need.
"If I feel good, I know I can go out and conquer anything," Stewart said.
