A police officer on patrol might have prevented a smoky blaze inside a Main Line business from being worse than it was.

The blaze broke out around 1 a.m. at Bryan Mawr Cleaners along W Lancaster Avenue in Haverford, Pa. Monday.

"We found the fire had originated on the first floor and had extended to the second floor," said
Oakmont Fire Company Chief Bob McGoldrick. "The smoke condition was pretty heavy."

A passing Lower Merion Township Police officer saw smoke pouring form the building and called firefighter who came to extinguish the blaze before it spread to any nearby businesses.

"Connected to this building/. is a rug company, it could have been pretty bad," said McGoldrick.

No one was hurt.

The exact extent of damage wasn’t immediately clear. The owner of the business said it could take a little while to sort through everything but he vowed to reopen.

"We have to cleanup and reopen business again," said owner Eric Kyung.

It could take a few days to figure out what to do with dry cleaning left at the store so owners asked customers be patient.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday morning. By 6 a.m. the building was boarded up and area roads reopened.
