Friends and family are mourning a high school student who was killed in a crash involving a tractor trailer and pickup truck that also injured four other people in Middletown, Delaware Friday night.

Officials at the Salesianum School in Wilmington, Delaware confirmed that one of their students, 17-year-old Tyler Brown, died in the accident.

Brown as well as 17-year-old Kelly Muschiatti, a senior at Salesianum's sister school Padua Academy, were both passengers inside a pickup truck driven by 18-year-old John Kirsch, who also attends Salesianum. Kirsch was driving a 2005 Dodge Dakota eastbound on Strawberry Lane in Middletown around 11:30 p.m. Friday. At the same time a 52-year-old New Jersey man was driving a tractor trailer northbound on US Route 301 Middletown Warwick Road approaching the intersection of Strawberry Lane.

Police say Kirsch tried to cross lanes and pulled directly into the path of the tractor trailer. The front side of the tractor trailer then struck the right passenger side of the Dodge Dakota at the intersection.

The impact caused the tractor trailer to fall over onto its left side while the Dakota spun around.

Brown, Muschiatti and Kirsch all had to be manually extracted from the vehicle by responding firefighters. They were all taken to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center. Brown later died from his injuries. Kirsch is in serious condition while Muschiatti is in critical condition.

The driver of the tractor trailer as well as his passenger, a 30-year-old Middletown, Delaware woman, also suffered serious injuries. They were both taken to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center. Officials have not yet revealed their conditions.

"Let us pray for Kelly, that she may recover from her injuries, and for the Padua community in their own moment of sadness and adversity. And let us pray for John, who will need our love and support more than ever," Salesianum principal Fr. Chris Beretta wrote in a released statement. "These will be difficult days for our school community that will test and challenge every one of us. But our brotherhood is strong and true. And we will walk this journey together."

A Mass for Brown began at 4 p.m. Saturday at Salesianum School.

"It's a horrible loss," said Patrick Wilson, a friend of Brown's. "I don't know how this happened so fast."

Officials continue to investigate the crash.

A man died from his injuries while a police officer and another man were injured after a traffic stop led to a shootout in Chester Saturday afternoon, according to officials.

Officials say Chester Police responded to a report of a possible stolen vehicle on Union and Parker streets shortly after 4 p.m. When they arrived at least one person inside the vehicle allegedly opened fire.

"When the officers tried to stop it they didn't cooperate and there ended up being shots fired from the car and then back at the car," said Chester Police Chief James Nolan.

Chester Police Captain Alan Davis was struck in the chest and arm. Two men inside the car were also struck. One of the men, who has not yet been identified, later died from his injuries.

Captain Davis and the second suspect, a 19-year-old man, were taken to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Davis, a 26-year veteran of the police force, is currently in stable condition. Family members of the 19-year-old man who were outside the hospital told NBC10 he is stable as well. They also claimed the man is innocent and that police "got the wrong car."

A large crowd of community members gathered at the scene of the shooting Saturday evening. NBC10's Randy Gyllenhaal reports a confrontation and fight occurred between police officers and some members of the crowd leading to pepper spray being used. Police told NBC10 the scuffle began when the crowd pushed up against the barrier as officials removed the man's body from the scene. Police detained two people during the scuffle and say they have the situation under control.

WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE

Police continue to investigate the shooting. Residents told NBC10 they're concerned about transparency during the investigation in light of another deadly police-involved shooting in February.

"The question is back to the police," said Pastor Calvin Williams. "Who was at fault? Are ya'll gonna tell the truth? All we want is the truth. We the people of the city of Chester, we want the truth this time."

A man died after he was stabbed in downtown Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square neighborhood.

Police said the stabbing occurred about 3 a.m. at 19th Street and Rittenhouse Square. The victim, a 24-year-old man from Bucks County, was walking with a group of three other people when they were approached by a man they did not know, investigators told NBC10's Monique Braxton.

The man then produced a knife and stabbed the victim. Police sources told NBC10 that based on their preliminary investigation, it appears the stabbing was random and that robbery was not the motive.

"There was a brief verbal altercation, a struggle ensued that lasted a few seconds, and by witness accounts, the offender stabbed the complainant, slashed the complainant across the chest area," Philadelphia Police Capt. Nicholas Smith said at the scene. "Then [the attacker] fled the area going southbound on 19th Street, then eastbound on Manning Street."

Investigators are hoping a knife sheath found near the scene will help them to track down the killer, police said.

Police said clothing found on the pavement near the scene belonged to the victim's friends and good Samaritans who took it off in an attempt to stop the bleeding and save him.

Several people were being interviewed by detectives Sunday morning, and investigators were canvassing area buildings for surveillance video that may have captured a glimpse of the killer.

No arrests have been made.

Philadelphia Police are warning revelers planning to attend the city's St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday of a zero-tolerance policy.

On the department's Facebook page, Philly Police warned that there would be "zero tolerance" for underage drinking and public drunkenness during the parade.

"The Philadelphia Police Department in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Police and SEPTA Police take safety and well-being of all participants and attendees very seriously," the post reads. "Therefore, there will be a zero-tolerance policy for underage drinking and public intoxication at the parade or events surrounding it in order to ensure the welfare of all attending."

Police said any juveniles arrested for underage drinking will need to be picked up by a parent.

The parade, which has been part of a city tradition since 1771, begins at 16th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard at noon and travels out Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the Art Museum, according to its website.
