Burglars stole $300,000 in cash and valuables and a gun from the home of the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

"DeSean is clearly upset that his home was burglarized while he was out of town on vacation . He has always felt very safe in his community and it concerns him someone would victimize his place of residence," said his spokeswoman Lindsey Deierling.

"He had personal items, jewelry and a small amount of money taken in the burglary, however the amount that has been previously reported is inaccurate. The large sum that was taken was in items. He thanks everyone for their concerns and he is confident the Philadelphia police department will find the suspects at large."

Police say they responded to the home of DeSean Jackson on the 3200 block of Pietro Way in South Philly around 5 a.m. Saturday morning after his mom discovered the player's bedroom had been ransacked.

The burglary occurred while Jackson was out of town, sometime between noon on Jan. 6 and 6 p.m. Jan. 10th, according to officials.

Police say Jackson's mother returned to the home Friday and noticed a security monitor on the floor and her son's bedroom door ajar.

She called Jackson, who told her he had left his door locked, according to authorities.

When his mother entered the room, she discovered the nightstand and dresser were torn apart.

The burglars pried open a safe and took the $200,000 in cash, $125,000 worth of jewelery and a .9mm Ruger handgun that were inside, according to officials. A second safe was also missing from the home.

Police say there were no signs of forced entry and the home security system had been removed.

Investigators are combing surveillance video in the area in the hopes of finding clues to the suspects' identities.

Early Sunday morning, Jackson addressed the burglary on his Twitter account.

Troops Told Maintain Ready Posture

The National Guard's director is telling Delaware National Guard leaders they must maintain a ready posture despite federal budget cuts over the next decade.

Gen. Frank Grass told state Guard leaders Saturday that a federal budget deal in December provides some relief from automatic spending cuts approved by Congress. But the National Guard still expects to see its share of spending cuts.

A debate is ongoing over how to achieve spending reductions in the military while still maintaining a strong defense. One option could be to increase the side of the Guard and Reserve forces because they are less costly than full-time troops. But others foresee the National Guard shrinking significantly.

Grass said guardsmen need to focus on readiness, not budget debates.
