Officials say the case is travel-related and pregnancy is not an issue. The DPH will reveal more information during a press conference Wednesday.

Zika is a generally mild illness that is currently widespread in Central and South America as well as the Caribbean. The virus is spread through mosquito bites and common symptoms are a fever, rash, joint pain and red eyes. These symptoms are normally mild however and only last a few days to a week.  However, the most serious threat from the virus is a birth defect in the babies of mothers who contracted the disease.

The body of a missing elderly man was found in the Schuylkill River in North Coventry Township Tuesday afternoon.

A passerby spotted a vehicle in the water off South Penn Street and Schuylkill Avenue around 12:20 p.m. Officials and rescue crews pulled the vehicle out of the water and later found a body inside.

The victim was later identified as 93-year-old Harold Leister of Pottstown.

Leister went missing around 5 p.m. on Feb. 4 from his home on West Woodland Drive in Pottstown. His vehicle, a 2011 Buick Lucerne, was also missing before officials found it in the Schuylkill River on Tuesday. Police say Leister had no known medical conditions but fell and struck his head on Feb. 3, the day before he went missing. While a neighbor checked on him he was not treated by a medical facility for his injury.

Police have not yet determined a cause of death. They continue to investigate.

Creato Enters Not Guilty Plea in Death of Son

The father of a 3-year-old boy found dead in a New Jersey park last year has pleaded not guilty to murder and child endangerment charges.

David Creato Jr. entered his pleas during a brief court hearing on Monday.

Camden County prosecutors claim Creato killed his son, Brendan, because the child had become an impediment to his relationship with a teenage girlfriend. They also say the girlfriend resented Creato's dealings with the boy's mother, with whom he shared custody.

The 22-year-old Haddon Township man was arrested last month. He remains jailed on $750,000 bail.

Brendan's body was found Oct. 13 in Cooper River Park about three hours after his father reported him missing from his Haddon Township home. Prosecutors have said the boy suffered "homicidal violence" akin to smothering or strangulation.

'Siberian Express' For Valentine's Weekend

$

TRULY FROM THE BEYOND THE ARCTIC
This is what we mean when we say that our air is “coming from the Arctic”. Actually, in this case, it’s coming from beyond the Arctic. Our air can be traced back across the North Pole all the way to Siberia. Here’s the evidence:

I’ve shown similar maps in the past, but they haven’t been nearly as extreme as this one. We’re looking at an upper-level map (around 20,000 ft.). Winds at that level tend to follow the lines on the map. So we can start in Philadelphia and trace that line back. It goes through Minneapolis and then back through Canada, across the North Pole, and then to Siberia. THIS IS NOT AN EXAGGERATION-IT IS THE “TRAJECTORY” of at least a part of the air that’s going to arrive this weekend. A flow like this has been called the “Siberian Express” in the past.

HOW COLD?
It’s not just about how low the temperature will go. It will be windy, too, so the wind chill will more closely represent just how cold it will feel to exposed skin. First, for the temps:

This is what the ground temperatures should be Sunday morning, Valentine’s Day (according to one computer model). First is a map of all of North America, and then a closer version with some actual numbers:

Remember, those are temperatures, not wind chills. A temperature of 5 degrees with a mere 10 mph wind equals a chill of -10 degrees. A 20 mph wind would make the wind chill -15. In parts of New England, temps will be -10 to -20, with wind chills reaching -30 to -40 degrees. Ouch!!!!

WILL RECORDS FALL?
The record lows for Philadelphia are 3 degrees for Saturday and 2 degrees for Sunday. It’s interesting that the Saturday record was last tied in 1983-another year with a strong El Nino.

The key to record cold in winter is snow cover. Usually, it takes a significant layer of white to reflect sunlight back into space. Since there will be only a little, patchy snow around, the records may not be broken in Philadelphia. But other places that will have snow on the ground have a chance.

As of now, we’re predicting lows of:

(The Saturday low temperature might be late in the evening, near midnight)

WILL IT LAST?
In a word, no. This pattern is only temporary, and we’ll see a BIG warmup next week. That won’t be the end of Arctic air for the winter. There could be another round of the “Siberian Express” later in the month.

Cab Driver Shot by Passengers Released From Hospital

A Philadelphia cab driver who was shot by two of his passengers during an attempted robbery over the weekend was released from the hospital Tuesday.

"I have a lot of pain but I say thank you God I still survived," said 38-year-old Alex Destin.

Destin told police he picked up two men and a woman at the corner of Broad and Wharton streets, in Point Breeze, about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

One man got in the front passenger seat while the second man and the woman sat in the back. While he was driving them to their destination, two of the passengers pointed guns at Destin and demanded money, police said.

"The guy pointed a gun in my face, told me 'don't move' and he shot me," Destin said.

Destin told police both men fired a shot at him, striking him in the arm. Destin then sped off. Surveillance video from a nearby deli captured Destin's cab speeding through a stop sign at 24th and Morris moments before crashing into parked cars.

The suspect who was in the front passenger seat fled. Meanwhile, the man and woman in the back seat were trapped and kicked the doors and windows, screaming to be let out as Destin flagged down a police officer. Before the officer arrived however, an unidentified passerby opened the cab door, setting the second man and the woman free, according to police.

Bonnie, a local block captain whose car was struck by the cab, told NBC10 she confronted the second man and woman after they got out.

"The girl, she was trying to hide," Bonnie said. "The guy was like, 'yeah, he hit your car and he hit them on purpose.' And I was like, 'so where are you going? You're a witness.'"

The deli's surveillance video shows a man waiting on two others at Morris and 24th five minutes after the cab crashed and two minutes before police arrived at the scene. All three people in the surveillance video match the descriptions of the robbery suspects.

Destin, who has a wife and four children, was grazed in the head by three bullets during the shooting and struck in the arm. On Tuesday he was released from the hospital and went home to continue his recovery. He still had blood on his shoes, stitches above his eye and a bullet lodged in his arm.

"Thanks to God he's still alive," said Destin's sister-in-law Ginia. "But he's in pain but he's alive."

Police are searching for the three suspects, all believed to be in their 20's. One of the suspects is described as a black male with close cropped hair between 5-foot-3 and 5-foot-5 inches tall who was wearing a 3/4 length coat and carrying a tote bag. The woman is described as a stocky black female with long, wavy hair standing 5-foot-1, wearing a waist-length coat and carrying a bag.

"Turn yourself in," said Nakira Carter, whose vehicle was struck by the cab and is now too damaged for her to drive. "You did something wrong. Own up to it."

If you have any information on the incident, please call Philadelphia Police.

2 Officers Cleared in Deadly Shooting

Prosecutors have cleared two Camden County policemen in the fatal shooting of a Camden man who allegedly aimed an air pistol at them during a confrontation last summer.

County prosecutors say an investigation determined the officers were legally justified to use deadly force against 33-year-old Oscar Camacho Jr. Authorities say Camacho was shot after he ignored orders to drop the weapon.

The shooting occurred after three police officers encountered Camacho on July 3.

Prosecutors say Camacho told a 911 dispatcher that he had been involved in multiple motor collisions and was armed with a gun. He also said he wanted to kill himself and intended to confront police.

The names of the officers who shot Camacho were not released.

State authorities reviewed the county investigation and agreed with its conclusion.

Philadelphia's mayor is donating his suite at Friday's sold-out Bruce Springsteen concert to a school district fundraising group.

The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia is offering Democratic Mayor Jim Kenney's suite tickets for $556 each on its website and says proceeds will support public education.

Springsteen is performing one night at the Wells Fargo Center as part of his tour showcasing his 1980 album "The River."

A mayoral spokeswoman says the suite has 18 seats. She says the mayor has a suite for all events at the center but doesn't plan to be there for the Springsteen concert. She says he also will donate the suite for shows by Carrie Underwood, The Who, Justin Bieber and Adele.

The 18 tickets normally are given to city staffers and other organizations.

Christie Heads Home to Ponder Next Step in WH Bid

Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is heading home to New Jersey Wednesday morning to "take a deep breath" and make a decision on his next step forward.

Christie, who finished back in the pack in New Hampshire, said Tuesday he would wait until the final votes were counted before deciding whether he would continue his presidential run.

"We leave New Hampshire without an ounce of regret," he said.

Christie, 53, a former prosecutor, was not able to emerge from a crowded field of candidates.

He congratulated Trump for his victory in New Hampshire, and said he had won elections he was supposed to lose and had lost elections he was supposed to win: "It's both the magic and mystery of politics."

Christie was elected in 2009 as New Jersey governor and easily won a second term.

"We can actually get a change of clothes," he joked, referring to a rumor last week about candidate Ben Carson's future that nearly scuppered the neurosurgeon's campaign.

Carson's campaign had told reporters during the Iowa caucuses that he would be heading home to get a change of clothes, which many took to mean he was dropping out, and may have affected the caucus vote.

There's an all-out search for a missing airman from Dover Air Force Base who was last seen on Super Bowl Sunday.

Senior airman Keifer Huhman, a member of the 436th Communications Squadron, failed to report for duty Monday.

The U.S. Air Force sent out Huhman’s photo in hopes of finding the missing airman.

“The safety of Team Dover personnel is vitally important, and Dover Air Force Base considers itself a tight-knit family,” said the Air Force in a news release. “Base and local authorities are taking every possible step to locate Airman Huhman.”

The air Force asked anyone with information on Huhman to call 302-677-6664.

City Breaks Ground on $16.5M LOVE Park Renovation

$

0

The City of Philadelphia will break ground Wednesday on a $16.5-million renovation of the city's LOVE Park in Center City.

The long-anticipated project will bring more green space to the park, at 15th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard near City Hall. Plans show a variety of trees, flowers and new crisscrossing fountains in the park.

The park, long a destination for tourists and locals who visit to snap photos in front of the iconic LOVE sculpture, is expected to be closed for a period of time as the renovation is completed. The revamp is expected to take more than a year.

The LOVE sculpture will be removed for a period but later reinstalled close to the same spot it's in now, according to PlanPhilly.

One group of longtime LOVE stalwarts, though, say they're losing out with the park's facelift.

Skateboarders, who favored the park for its concrete and stone steps, often used LOVE as a skate park, although skating there wasn't technically legal. The new green space, which will eliminate much of the concrete and stone, will make skating there a thing of the past.

The skaters who frequent LOVE Park have been expressing their discontent with the impending revamp on social media using hashtags including "#lastdaysoflove" and "#phillyhasnolove."

A group of skateboarders, all young men, many who said they'd been skating at the park near-daily for years, looked on wistfully Thursday as construction workers began to put up fencing around parts of the park.

"I didn't have any friends till I came to this place," a 23-year-old skateboarder from Germantown who goes by Q. Three said on Thursday as he looked around at the shiny silver fences breaking up the park. "I could've been in all kinds of street stuff."

For Mark Jackson, 24, from Hunting Park, skating at LOVE has always been an outlet for him, too.

"It's everything," Jackson said as he stood with Q, holding his skateboard.

They'd get chased out of the park by park rangers and police sometimes, they said, but in a city rife with drugs and guns, skateboarding -- even where it isn't legal -- was always a better alternative.

"Nobody comes to the park unless we're skating," Q. added. "This is our place. We shovel [snow], we fix the cracks."

The groundbreaking is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday.

A water main broke causing troubles and a school closure in a Montgomery County town Wednesday morning.

The break at Berks and Walnut streets in Pottstown, Pennsylvania sent water into nearby homes and stopped traffic around 7:45 a.m.

Pottstown officials said by mid-morning the break, which occurred near Saint Michael’s Ukrainian Church, a Walmart and Barth Elementary School was under control. School officials closed Barth for the day as crews used heavy machinery on the break.

As SkyForce10 hovered overhead, crews could be seen digging in a large hole in the roadway.

No word yet on damage estimates.
