Police on Sunday morning were searching for three people who fled from State Police after a chase through South Philadelphia.

State Police tried to stop a car on I-95 South near the Broad Street exit about 2:20 a.m. for an expired tag, according to police. Instead of pulling over, police said, the driver sped up and attempted to get away.

Police chased the car to 28th Street and Passyunk Avenue. There, police said, the car stopped and all three occupants bailed out and ran. Police later Sunday morning were still searching for the people who were in the car.

No injuries were reported.

Gov. Markell Wants Del. to Apologize for Role in Slavery

Delaware governor Jack Markell announced a resolution on Sunday to officially apologize for slavery that occurred in his state.

Markell delivered remarks at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, on Walnut Street near 7th in Wilmington, Sunday morning to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the ratification of the 13th Amendment, which ended slavery in the United States.

“For generations, our country denied and actively contested a basic fact of humanity: that nothing about the color of one’s skin affects that person's innate rights to freedom and dignity,” Markell said. "We must publicly and candidly acknowledge the lasting damage of past sins – damage that continues to reverberate more than 150 years after the abolition of slavery."

During his remarks, Markell announced his support of a joint resolution to officially apologize for slavery that took place in the state of Delaware.

“The resolution being introduced today will do more than write a footnote into the history books that describe the atrocious conditions that some Delawareans inflicted upon people of African descent,” Markell said. “This marks an important moment in owning up to our responsibility to fix the long legacy of damage that continues to result in inequality and unfair obstacles for countless citizens because of their race.”

The House Joint Resolution – which is sponsored by Representative Stephanie T. Bolden (D-Wilmington East) and Senate Majority Whip Margaret Rose Henry (D-Wilmington East – will be introduced next year during a legislative session.

"Slavery is the darkest chapter of our nation’s history,” said Senator Henry. “And while the page has long been turned, the scars from the whippings, the bruises from the shackles, the tears from the torment can still be felt all these years later in the continued struggle against racism, prejudice and the power of the privileged. Who we are as a state and nation is shaped by our history – the good and the bad. And who we can be tomorrow is predicated upon our ability to show empathy for each other today. In my view, an apology for slavery is just that: an act of empathy that won’t undo the past, but will once and for all acknowledge the experience of so many Delawareans who still feel its harsh effects.”

Last month, Markell officially pardoned a man who was found guilty in 1847 of helping slaves in Delaware escape on the Underground Railroad. Markell said the posthumous pardon corrected the injustice committed against Samuel D. Burris, who spent 10 months in prison and 14 years as a slave himself after he was caught helping people escape.

WATCH: Man Paints Over Anti-Police Graffiti on I-95

Police and thousands of Facebook users are thanking a landscaping company owner who took it upon himself to cover up anti-police graffiti on an I-95 overpass in Chester.

Pat McCusker, the owner of Garnet Valley Farms, told NBC10 he was driving on I-95 when he saw the words “Cop Killen Season” spray-painted on an overpass.

“My initial reaction when I first drove by was I can’t believe that’s even up there,” he said.

A few days later, McCusker passed by the graffiti again and decided to take action. As another person recorded, McCusker painted over the anti-police message and put up pictures of smiling snowmen as well as an American flag. McCusker posted video of him covering up the graffiti on his company’s Facebook page Saturday. So far it has over 71,000 views and hundreds of comments from Facebook users showing their appreciation.

“They have a hard job to do and they’re trying to keep us all safe,” McCusker said. “So if it’s the season for anything, it’s the season for Christmas. It’s not the season for killing anybody, let alone police.”

Chester Police Chief Otis Blair told NBC10 he’s thankful the graffiti, which was on the overpass for several weeks, is finally gone. He also said he understands however that many residents in the area have a negative view of police.

McCusker insists he wasn’t trying to make a political statement with his video but was instead merely trying to spread some Holiday cheer.

“It didn’t really have any agenda,” McCusker said. “I just wanted to make people smile and get that garbage off the wall.”

A man, possibly armed with a gun, robbed a Montgomery County Wawa Sunday morning, according to investigators.

Police say the unidentified suspect entered the Wawa on the 700 block of N. Bethlehem Pike in Lower Gwynedd Township shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday. The suspect walked around the store for about two minutes before finally approaching the cashier, police said. The man allegedly gave the cashier a note demanding money while indicating he had a gun. The cashier told police she saw a black object she believed was a handgun inside his jacket.

The woman emptied the register and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. The suspect then left the store.

The suspect is described as a man with a thin to medium build in his late 20s standing between 5-foot-11 and 6-feet with scruffy facial hair. He was last seen wearing light blue jeans, white sneakers and a dark-hooded sweatshirt. Police also say he may be driving a silver SUV.

If you have any information on his whereabouts, please call the Lower Gwynedd Police Department at 215-646-5300.

Eagles Stun Patriots in Upset Win

$

The Eagles needed someone, anyone to step up and make a play.

Finally, a bunch of guys did.

Chris Maragos blocked a punt and Najee Goode returned it for a touchdown. Walter Thurmond broke up a pass that Malcolm Jenkins picked off and took 99 yards for a score. Darren Sproles took a punt return 83 yards to the house.

And the Eagles somehow took down Tom Brady and the mighty Patriots, 35-28, in a crazy, “what-the-heck-just-happened?” game at Gillette Stadium on Sunday night.

Everyone saw this one coming, right?

After going down 14-0 early, the Eagles scored 35 unanswered points to go up 35-14 and were eventually able to hold on. The Eagles scored two touchdowns on special teams, two on offense and one on defense.

The Patriots made it interesting at the end, when they scored, recovered an onside kick and drove down the field again to make it a one-score game. They even got the ball back with a chance to tie after a Kenjon Barner fumble, but the Eagles’ defense was able to seal it by forcing a turnover on downs.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 5-7 and snapped their three-game losing skid. They have the same record as the Giants, and if the Redskins lose on Monday night, all three teams would be 5-7.

With the loss, the Patriots fell to 10-2 and have lost back-to-back games for the first time since the beginning of the 2012 season.

First half

The Eagles were about to go into the locker room down a touchdown but Maragos blocked a punt late in the second quarter and Goode picked it up and returned it 24 yards for the touchdown. That tied the game at 14-14.

The Eagles scored the last 14 points of the first half to tie the game. Their first touchdown came on a 59-yard scoring drive after the Patriots tried a drop kick onside kick. The touchdown came on a pass from Sam Bradford to Zach Ertz. It was Ertz’s first touchdown of the year.

The Patriots scored their two first-half touchdowns after 80-yard drives.

The Eagles actually outgained the Patriots, 161-157, in the first half, but also had seven penalties for 92 yards.

Turning point
Maragos’ blocked punt was huge. It tied the game up at the end of the first half, when it looked like the Eagles were definitely going to be trailing going into the locker room.

Key stat
The Eagles went three straight games without a takeaway on defense until Sunday. When Jenkins intercepted Brady’s pass and went 99 yards to score, it was the defense’s first takeaway since Jordan Hicks’ pick-six in Dallas on Nov. 8.

Offensive stud
Sproles and Barner both had a bigger impact than DeMarco Murray. Sproles was featured as a runner and a receiver.

Bradford also had a very solid performance in his return after missing two games.

Offensive dud
Murray continued to be ineffective. He finished with 24 yards on eight carries. He had five carries for one yard in the first half.

Defensive stud
The Eagles had a good day rushing Brady. And obviously, the interception and return from Thurmond and Jenkins was huge.

Defensive dud
Kiko Alonso actually made a couple plays, but sometimes he just looks lost.

Injuries
Defensive end Cedric Thornton (ankle) was held out of Sunday’s game. Taylor Hart started in his place.

Up next
The Eagles are at home for their next three games against Buffalo, Arizona and Washington. They’ll finish the regular season on the road to face the Giants.
