Mom, Daughter Missing in South Jersey: Police questioned a person of interest in the disappearance of a South Jersey mother and her baby daughter, according to the woman's sister. Diana Soto told NBC10 investigators spoke with the person of interest Tuesday but didn't say who that person was. Police also have not confirmed Soto's claim. Police began searching for Soto's sister, 34-year-old Neidy Ramirez, after she and her 3-month-old daughter Genesis Ramirez went missing. Ramirez's family last saw her and her daughter on Black Friday in Vineland, police said. A day later, New Jersey State Police found Ramirez’s 2005 Chevy Trailblazer along Route 55 after a family friend spotted it near milepost 45.3, according to investigators. Investigators said Ramirez has no history of medical disorders and was only reported missing after she failed to show up for work at Conte's Pasta Monday. Investigators also say there hasn't been any activity on her cellphone or transactions on her credit card since Friday.

Guantanamo Bay Detainee is Case of Mistaken Identity: A militant who fought for the Taliban in Afghanistan and has been held without charge at Guantanamo Bay for 13 years was largely the victim of mistaken identity, according to U.S. defense officials. Mustafa Abd-al-Qawi Abd-al-Aziz al-Shamiri was captured in 2002 and believed to be an al Qaeda facilitator or courier, and trainer, the Department of Defense said in a document submitted Tuesday as part of a periodic review of his detention. "We now judge that these activities were carried out by other known extremists" with similar names or aliases, the profile of the Yemeni detainee dated Sept. 25 added. "[He] has expressed no plans for the future apart from a desire to get married” "Fragmentary reporting" did link the 37-year-old to fighting in Bosnia in 1995. He also told interrogators that he fought in the civil war in his homeland in 1996 and in Afghanistan with the Taliban from 2000 to 2001, according to the document. But while al-Shamiri "probably took explosives training at a camp in Afghanistan" and may have stayed at a safehouse with operatives who planned al Qaeda's October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, there was no evidence he was part of the operation, according to his Defense Department profile. A document submitted by al-Shamiri's "personal representatives" for a hearing held on Tuesday said that he was "not a continuing significant threat to the United States of America."
TODAY'S TALKER
Woman Steals $40K from Mother: A Delaware County woman was arrested after she allegedly stole $40,000 from her elderly mother and created a false GoFundMe page, claiming her mother was sick when she was actually in good health. Carol Mongrandi, 53, of Brookhaven, is charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, forgery and theft by deception. The investigation began when Denise Gallagher, Delaware County’s Ombudsman Coordinator, received a call from the administrator of Lima Estates regarding a 92-year-old woman who had been a resident there for 35 years. The administrator told Gallagher the woman always paid her bills on time but was suddenly late when her daughter Carol Mongrandi took over as her Power of Attorney. The administrator says Mongrandi’s mother’s account at Lima Estates was in default of approximately $32,098.16 despite numerous letters that were sent to her. Police later learned Mongrandi was opening bank accounts and credit cards in her mother’s name and making ATM withdrawals from her accounts, according to investigators. Mongrandi allegedly opened a credit card for Sears and Capital One which she used for her daily living expenses and also signed her mother’s name to a car loan without her knowledge.
