WATCH: Man Steals Gifts From Home: Homeowner

A Newark, Delaware woman’s surveillance camera came in handy when it captured a man allegedly stealing her Christmas gifts from her front door moments after they were delivered.

Jessica, who did not want her last name revealed, told NBC10 she recently purchased the gifts and tracked them. On the day she knew they were delivered she returned to her home in Newark’s Barrington neighborhood but didn't see them at her door.

Jessica then checked her home surveillance camera. The video shows a UPS delivery driver dropping the packages off in front of her home. Moments later, a tan Hyundai with South Carolina tags moves into her driveway. A man in a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey then comes out, grabs the packages and gets back into the car which then drives off.

“A pure invasion of privacy,” Jessica said. “I mean if they’re tailing a UPS truck they clearly have a mission. And they’re trying to get as much as they can.”

Police later recovered Jessica’s gifts but are still searching for the man in the video. Jessica says the incident has taught her a valuable lesson.

“I look at this as an opportunity for us to lose a couple hundred dollars’ worth of goods to put the awareness out there to our local community and our neighbors to say this can happen anywhere,” she said.

If you have any information on the man in the video, please call New Castle County Police.

A group of armed men robbed and carjacked a victim at a Philly gas station, police said.

The 42-year-old man was pumping gas at the BP Gas Station on the 400 block of Lehigh Avenue back on Nov. 28 around 5 p.m. when he was approached by a group of six men, according to investigators.

One of the suspects pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim, demanding money while telling the other robbers to go through his pockets, investigators said. When the victim tried to run away, the gunman dragged him in front of his car and held him against it, according to police. The gunman then went into the victim’s vehicle and drove off while the other suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction, officials said.

Police later found the victim’s vehicle abandoned on the 2700 block of North 6th Street. Investigators say the robbers stole around $200 from the victim’s pockets and $300 from inside the vehicle. They also stole the victim’s wallet which contained various ID and credit cards, police said.

The first suspect armed with a gun is described as a muscular man approximately 30-years-of age standing 5-foot-9 and wearing a green hooded sweatshirt. Police have not released detailed descriptions of the other six suspects but say they were all wearing hooded sweatshirts as well.

If you have any information on the incident, please call Philadelphia Police.

Sixers Win Their First Game of the Year

The long nightmare of a losing streak that stretched more than eight months, 28 games and parts of two seasons, is over for the 76ers.

Behind 23 points from Robert Covington and 14 points from Nerlens Noel and Jerami Grant, the Sixers broke through into the win column with a 103-91 decision over the hapless Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night a the Wells Fargo Center.

Gone with the victory is the longest losing streak in North American major sports history at 28. Also wiped out is the NBA record-tying 18 straight losses to open a season.

The Lakers, at 2-15, hold a two-game advantage over the Sixers for the worst record in the NBA.

Turning point
A third-quarter tussle between Lakers center Roy Hibbert and the Sixers’ Isaiah Canaan, JaKarr Sampson and Jerami Grant seemed to wake up the Sixers. Hibbert appeared to have Canaan in an arm bar, which prefaced some pushing and shoving, drawing Sampson and Grant to Canaan’s aid.

Hibbert appeared to shove a referee, but he remained in the game with a technical foul. Grant and Sampson also were hit with technical fouls.

From that moment, though, the Sixers stepped on the throttle and pushed their lead to 14 points with 7:20 to go in the game.

Kobe’s last trip
Bryant, in his first game since announcing his retirement on Sunday, hit three of his first four shots on his way to 13 points in the opening quarter.

But Bryant went just 4 for 21 the rest of the way for 20 points.

Bryant, who grew up in Montgomery County, appeared in his final game at the Wells Fargo Center.

Nerlens returns
Noel returned to action after missing the last two games because of some knee soreness and an illness. Coach Brett Brown used Noel in a reserve role in which he logged 27 minutes and scored 14 points on 5 for 7 shooting.

Former Sixers
Lou Williams and Nick Young returned to their old stomping grounds with the Lakers. Williams scored nine points in 21 minutes and Young added four points in 12 minutes.

High numbers
Covington scored his 23 points on 8 for 16 shooting with five three-pointers. Jahlil Okafor and Canaan also scored 12 points.

The Sixers got 40 points off the bench, including a game-high six assists from T.J. McConnell.

No. 2 overall draft pick D’Angelo Russell scored 12 points on 5 for 14 shooting with four rebounds and four assists in 37 minutes. The Lakers also got a double-double from Julius Randle, who went for 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Up next
The Sixers play the second game of a back-to-back on Wednesday night when they take a short trip up the New Jersey Turnpike to face the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Following the game the Sixers head home for two games in a row for the first time since Nov. 16 and 18.

Woman Steals $40K From 92-Year-Old Mom: Police

A Delaware County woman was arrested after she allegedly stole $40,000 from her elderly mother and created a false GoFundMe page, claiming her mother was sick when she was actually in good health.

Carol Mongrandi, 53, of Brookhaven, is charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, forgery and theft by deception.

The investigation began when Denise Gallagher, Delaware County’s Ombudsman Coordinator, received a call from the administrator of Lima Estates regarding a 92-year-old woman who had been a resident there for 35 years. The administrator told Gallagher the woman always paid her bills on time but was suddenly late when her daughter Carol Mongrandi took over as her Power of Attorney.

The administrator says Mongrandi’s mother’s account at Lima Estates was in default of approximately $32,098.16 despite numerous letters that were sent to her. Police later learned Mongrandi was opening bank accounts and credit cards in her mother’s name and making ATM withdrawals from her accounts, according to investigators. Mongrandi allegedly opened a credit card for Sears and Capital One which she used for her daily living expenses and also signed her mother’s name to a car loan without her knowledge.

Investigators also say Mongrandi created a GoFundMe page to seek donations from the public to pay her mother’s bills. On the page, Mongrandi allegedly claimed her mother was undergoing a decline in her mental and physical health after suffering two strokes even though she was actually healthy at the time. Mongrandi earned $1200 through the GoFundMe page which she used for her own personal gain, police said.

Investigators executed a search warrant on all of the financial accounts in Mongrandi’s mother’s name. They then learned Mongrandi made unauthorized withdrawals totaling $40,070.25 without her mother’s permission, according to investigators.

Mongrandi surrendered to authorities and was released on her own recognizance under $50,000 bail after an arraignment. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 22.

Information on Mongrandi's attorney was not immediately available.

AROUND THE WORLD

Guantanamo Bay Detainee is Case of Mistaken Identity: A militant who fought for the Taliban in Afghanistan and has been held without charge at Guantanamo Bay for 13 years was largely the victim of mistaken identity, according to U.S. defense officials. Mustafa Abd-al-Qawi Abd-al-Aziz al-Shamiri was captured in 2002 and believed to be an al Qaeda facilitator or courier, and trainer, the Department of Defense said in a document submitted Tuesday as part of a periodic review of his detention. "We now judge that these activities were carried out by other known extremists" with similar names or aliases, the profile of the Yemeni detainee dated Sept. 25 added. "[He] has expressed no plans for the future apart from a desire to get married” "Fragmentary reporting" did link the 37-year-old to fighting in Bosnia in 1995. He also told interrogators that he fought in the civil war in his homeland in 1996 and in Afghanistan with the Taliban from 2000 to 2001, according to the document. But while al-Shamiri "probably took explosives training at a camp in Afghanistan" and may have stayed at a safehouse with operatives who planned al Qaeda's October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, there was no evidence he was part of the operation, according to his Defense Department profile. A document submitted by al-Shamiri's "personal representatives" for a hearing held on Tuesday said that he was "not a continuing significant threat to the United States of America."

Rock-Wielding Bandit Hits 7 NE Phila. Shops in a Week

A brazen, rock-wielding burglar smashed his way into seven Northeast Philadelphia businesses in about a week, and police are asking the public's help to track the man down.

In the first burglary, overnight Nov. 21 into Nov. 22, surveillance video released by police shows the suspect throwing a heavy object -- which police said they believe may be a rock or brick -- through the glass door of Little Caesar's Pizza on Red Lion Road near Academy, in Modena Park. Police said once inside, the man took an unknown amount of cash.

A few days later, the bandit struck again, police said, this time overnight Nov. 24 at the Suburban Pharmacy, on Bustleton Avenue near Kelvin. In that incident, police said the man used a brick to smash through the glass front door and steal lottery tickets.

Three days after that, police said the suspect smashed through the glass at Beijing Restaurant, located on the same block as the Little Caesar's he hit a few days before. Over the next two days -- Nov. 28 through Nov. 29 -- police said the suspect, using the same method, burglarized a BP gas station on Frankford Avenue near Knights Road, in Morrell Park, and then broke into the Craft Beer Outlet, a dry cleaner and a Super Cuts on the same block.

At the beer outlet, police said, the man stole cigarettes and cash. He did not take anything from the dry cleaner or Super Cuts, police said.

Clear surveillance video from several of the burglaries shows the man. Police are asking that anyone who recognizes him to call Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153 or text a tip to PPD TIP (773847).

As online holiday shopping sales soar to record levels this year, consumer groups are warning that thieves are ready and waiting to take advantage of packages that linger on your doorstep.

With this year's "Cyber Monday" set be the biggest U.S. online shopping day in history with nearly $3 billion in sales, there will certainly be more opportunity for thieves to swipe packages from stoops before they even get to their rightful owners.

A new report from insuranceQuotes.com finds an estimated 23 million Americans have had packages stolen from their homes, and with more people shopping online, they expect that number to grow.

"We call these 'Porch Pirates' -- thieves literally walking up to your front door and taking your packages," said Laura Adams, a senior analyst with insuranceQuotes.com who conducted the survey.

A South Jersey woman's former lover has been charged in the deaths of the woman and her infant daughter, police said Wednesday.

Police in Vineland, New Jersey, announced two homicide charges against Ricardo Santiago, 34, of Millville. Police said Santiago is the father of Neidy Ramirez's 5-year-old child.

Vineland police Lt. Matt Finley said the bodies of 34-year-old Ramirez and her 3-month-old daughter Genesis were found in western Cumberland County, New Jersey. A source told NBC10 the bodies were discovered in a swampy area near the Cohansey River Watershed Boat Ramp in Fairfield Township. Their bodies were placed in the area at some point between Friday and Saturday, according to the source.

Ramirez's grieving family called her a "loving mother who adored her kids."

"They were her life and would do anything for them," said the family statement. "She was someone who you could talk to for anything -- and count on. She always liked to laugh and make jokes with family and friends. She will always be loved and be in our heart's."

Ramirez and Genesis had been missing since Black Friday, when family members last saw them in Vineland, police said. A day later, New Jersey State Police found Ramirez’s 2005 Chevy Trailblazer along Route 55 after a family friend spotted it near milepost 45.3, according to investigators.

Investigators said Ramirez was reported missing after she failed to show up for work Monday.

Santiago was held on $1 million bail. Police said he was taken into custody and questioned Tuesday. He was charged Tuesday night. Information on an attorney for Santiago was not immediately available.

Finley said Ramirez and Santiago were co-parents, but did not live together. The two were involved in a dispute, Finley said, but he did not elaborate.

Finley said the biological father of Genesis has been notified.

A thief who police in New Jersey say used stolen wire cutters to cut loose a pair of GoPro cameras, told a responding officer the camera he got away with was his despite saying “For Display Only” on it.

Kristofer Coltenback, of nearby Whiting, entered the Kmart on Route 37 East in Toms River early Sunday afternoon, stole a pair of wire cutters then used those wire cutters to snag a couple of GoPros from a display, said Toms River Police.

A loss prevention officer confronted Coltenback and got one of the cameras back before the 38-year-old suspect made a run for it, said investigators.

An officer located Coltenback a short distance away and questioned him about the camera. Coltenback said the camera belonged to him despite it having a “For Display Only” sticker still on it, said police. The suspect also still had the stolen wire cutters in his pocket, investigators said.

Coltenback was charged with fourth-degree shoplifting and given a $2,500 bail.
