A man is dead and another injured after an accident on I-95.

Police say a 67-year-old man from Boyertown was driving a 2008 Chrysler 300 Saturday around 4:30 a.m. on the right shoulder of I-95 southbound in Tinicum Township, Delaware County.

As he was driving, police say a 26-year-old man from Broomall was driving a 2013 BMW 335i in the left lane on I-95 south. As the 26-year-old man tried to turn at a right curve, police say his vehicle began to spin out of control. The BMW traveled across the southbound lanes to the right and struck the rear driver side of the Chrysler. The BMW then rolled over before coming to a final stop, landing on its roof in a grassy area north on the highway.

Police say the impact caused the Chrysler to veer off the road until it finally stopped in another grassy area near the highway.

The 26-year-old man was extricated from the BMW. He was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical center where he is currently in critical condition. The 67-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Only one lane was getting by on I-95 southbound mile marker 10.5 due to the crash Saturday morning. All lanes are now open again.

Police are on the hunt for a gunman who they say targeted three teenage boys.

On Friday, around 11:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a person with a gun on the 4000 block of Germantown Avenue. When they arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. The teen was taken to Temple University Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
Later on, police were notified about a second teen victim on the 1800 block of Pulaski. Police say a 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg and transferred to Temple Hospital.

Both victims told police they were hanging out at a gas station on the 4000 block of Germantown when a gunman approached them and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

On Sunday, shortly after 3 a.m., police received a report of another teen shooting victim at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. When they arrived at the hospital, they found a 15-year-old boy who was grazed by a bullet in his right and left calf. The teen told police he was shot while he was on the highway on the 4000 block of Germantown. Police suspect the same gunman who shot the first two teens also shot the third teen.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned male between the ages of 16 and 17 and standing at 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-8. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt.

If you have any information on this incident, please call Philadelphia police.

Brutal Heat Covers the Region

$

The heat is on this holiday weekend and we are officially in a heat wave!

An excessive heat warning is now in effect and will last until 8 p.m. on Sunday for most of the region, including Philadelphia, parts of South Jersey, eastern Chester County, Eastern Montgomery County, Lower Bucks County and New Castle County, Delaware.

Excessive Heat Warning

Temperatures were in the 90s on Thursday and Friday in Philadelphia and hit 90 degrees early Saturday afternoon, making it the third heat wave of the season. Due to the humidity and heat index, temperatures will feel closer to 100 degrees.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation for anyone outdoors.

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, stay inside air-conditioned areas, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.

If you’re working or spending time outside, take extra precautions. Reschedule any strenuous activity to early morning or evening. Wear light weight, loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

If you have to work outdoors, take several rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned locations. Also, be sure to use plenty of sunblock. The UV index is very high during the day and you could feel sunburn after being outside for only 10 to 15 minutes.

Due to the heat, the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) will operate its Heatline today from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can call the Heatline at 215-765-9040 for information on precautions against the heat and detecting signs of heat stress. The Heatline is a non-emergency telephone service and is not a fan or air conditioner distribution site.

Sunday will stay mostly sunny and very hot and humid with highs in the mid 90's. There is a chance of a late evening thunderstorm. It will feel like 100 again.

On Monday, expect a mix of sun and clouds; we could also see a few scattered showers through the day, according to NBC10’s Sheena Parveen. Thunderstorms are more likely in the afternoon, with highs still around 90.

How do you plan on staying cool this weekend? Let us know by sending us your photos.

Explosive Fire Causes House Collapse: Officials

An entire block was evacuated after a home collapsed in the Wissinoming section of the city Saturday, according to officials.

Fire investigators say they believe a natural gas line may have been disconnected prior to an explosion at a home located at 4716 Howell Street. Investigators say the vacant home, also under construction, came crashing down around 12 p.m.

Ruth Logo’s daughter ran two blocks thinking her mother’s home next door had exploded.
“Her house next door shook like an earthquake,” said Logo.

Lugo and her family are among 15 people who were evacuated to a SEPTA bus for more than two hours. PGW shut off gas as a precaution to their homes. Residents were allowed back into their home around 2:45 p.m. Homeland Security also rushed to the scene as a standard practice following an explosion.

Two people were treated at the scene for minor cuts to their feet.

One person was taken into custody in connection with the incident after police say he was seen leaving the home right before the explosion. A police source says someone may have ripped out copper pipes from the home for scrap metal.

“It’s very dangerous if somebody is trying to take the copper pipes but we do not have any confirmed reports right now,” said Philadelphia Deputy Fire Chief Robert Coyne.

A demolition crew arrived to the scene and used heavy equipment to search the rubble to make sure the house was empty.

Authorities say the deaths of an elderly man and his daughter found in a suburban Philadelphia home are being investigated as a possible murder-suicide.

The (Doylestown) Intelligencer says Pennridge police found the victims in the East Rockhill Township home late Saturday night.

Chief David Mettin said both apparently had gunshot wounds.

Sgt. Patrick Karcher of Pennridge Regional Police said the man was in his late 70s and the woman is believed to have been in her 60s.

He said a caretaker found the bodies at about 9 p.m. Saturday, and investigators believe the deaths occurred a few hours earlier.

A woman is in custody after police say she lost control of her vehicle and struck four people, including two children, while under the influence.

Police say Erika Williams, 28, was driving a blue Oldsmobile at a high speed shortly before 11 p.m. on the 900 block of Anchor Street Saturday night when a ball came into the roadway. Investigators say the woman tried to swerve but ended up striking a 5-year-old girl. She then jumped a curb and struck a 2-year-old boy, 36-year-old woman and 33-year-old woman, according to investigators.

The girl and boy were both taken to St. Christopher's Hospital. The girl is currently in critical condition after suffering a severe leg injury. The boy suffered a dislocated pelvis and is currently in stable condition.

The 36-year-old woman was taken to Temple Hospital and treated for leg and head pain as well as a laceration on her hand. The 33-year-old woman was taken to Frankford Torresdale Aria Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

Nicole Giles, a neighbor of the victims, described the condition of the 5-year-old girl immediately after the crash.

“She was just bleeding,” said Giles while on the verge of tears. “She wasn’t moving. It just hurts my heart because I have a child her age.”

Witnesses also say several people sprang into action during the accident, pulling the car off of the victims before emergency crews arrived.

"It was natural instinct," said Nature Williams. "The first thing that came to my mind when they said the baby was under the car was to pull the car."

Williams was taken into custody after the accident. She is charged with driving under the influence, aggravated assault while driving under the influence, criminal mischief, simple assault and other related offenses.

Police continue to investigate the incident.

Two young girls escaped serious injury when a massive tree branch fell on a walkway near a Jersey City playground.

Hudson County Sheriff's spokesman Michael Makarski told The Jersey Journal that officials believe the 25-foot-long branch weighed nearly 2,000 pounds. It did not directly strike the girls, but they were hit by outer foliage and smaller branches when the limb fell around 5 p.m. Saturday in Lincoln Park.

The girls, ages 9 and 11, were both treated at a hospital and released later Saturday. The 11-year-old had minor neck and back injuries, while the 9-year-old was treated for minor cuts to her arm and a possible broken wrist.

County officials are still trying to determine what caused the tree limb to fall.

Thousands are without power after a line of severe thunderstorms moved through our area Sunday night.

PECO says about 4,463 customers are without power in the Philadelphia area. A majority of those outages were reported in Montgomery County including Abington and Glenside.

Thunderstorms started moving through Chester County around 7:30 p.m. bringing rain and heavy winds. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Chester, Delaware, Salem and New Castle counties. The storms also brought down several trees throughout the area.

“These storms will cool us down a bit tonight and we have our ridge of high pressure that is starting to weaken,” said NBC10 Meteorologist Brittney Shipp. “This means our temps will drop a bit heading into the start of next week.”

An excessive heat warning was in effect throughout the weekend for most of the region, including Philadelphia, parts of South Jersey, eastern Chester County, Eastern Montgomery County, Lower Bucks County and New Castle County, Delaware.

On Monday, expect a mix of sun and clouds. We could also see a few scattered showers through the day; thunderstorms are more likely in the afternoon, with highs still around 90.

Temperatures will be back down to the mid to high 80’s by Thursday, according to Shipp.
