Construction in Center City will force detours of several SEPTA routes beginning early Sunday morning, officials with the transit authority said.

Beginning at 5 a.m., bus routes 17, 33, 38, 44 and 48 were detoured from their normal routes between 9th Street and City Hall. Construction on Market Street between 12th and 13th is to blame for the detours, officials said.

SEPTA.org's System Status page has the latest detour and delay updates.

Seven people were injured when police say a drunk man lost control of a Mercedes during homecoming festivities Saturday at Delaware State University and the car plowed into a crowd.

Dover Police said 28-year-old Gregory Ligon, of Maryland, was driving a Mercedes Benz near a fraternity picnic area where homecoming celebrations were taking place about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Ligon tried to park the car, according to police, but apparently forgot the car was still in reverse when he got out.

As the car began rolling away, police said, Ligon jumped back inside and tried to stop it, but somehow managed to hit the gas instead of the brake, causing the car to lurch over a curb and across a field full of people, with its driver's side door still open. The car struck seven people, including a 21-year-old woman who was badly injured when its open door pinned her to a tree, police said.

The car kept going after pinning that woman, police said, and finally stopped only when it hit another tree. At that point, police said, bystanders helped Ligon out of the car, and it was discovered that he was drunk.

Ligon was arraigned and charged with one count of first-degree vehicular assault, six counts of second-degree vehicular assault, DUI and related offenses.

The 21-year-old woman who was the most seriously injured in the crash, who is from Wilmington, remained in critical condition at Christiana Hospital on Sunday, police said. She suffered a broken back, broken ribs and several internal injuries.

The other victims included a 51-year-old man from Philadelphia, a 20-year-old woman from Egg Harbor Township, a 21-year-old woman from Wilmington, a 21-year-old man from Dover, a 21-year-old woman from Maryland and a 22-year-old from Brooklyn, NY. Those victims, police said, suffered injuries to their limbs and were treated at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash, which happened on the heels of a devastating DUI crash at Oklahoma State University in which four people died and more than 40 others were injured.

A 57-year-old man was stabbed during a robbery while pumping gas Saturday night, and Chichester Township Police are asking the public's help to track down the robber.

Police said the victim was at the gas pumps at the Sunoco on Township Line Road near Keystone Road shortly after 9 p.m. when a man approached him and offered to pump his gas for $1. The victim refused, police said, and went into the store briefly. When he emerged, the same man was waiting for him by the pumps, police said, and attacked him with a knife as he got back into his vehicle. During the struggle, the man stabbed the victim once in the shoulder.

The man then took off running from the Sunoco parking lot toward Carter Lane in Chester, police said.

The victim was treated by medics at the scene but declined further medical treatment.

Police on Sunday released surveillance photos and a description of the robber. They described him as a black man about 6 feet tall with an average-to-large build. He wore a black coat with the letters "FiDonce" written in orange across the back over a gray hooded sweatshirt at the time of the robbery, police said.

Cheesesteak Festival Responds to Criticism

The organizers of Philadelphia’s first ever cheesesteak festival responded to several complaints about the event on social media.

The event took place Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field and featured samples from over 40 different cheesesteak vendors around the city. An estimated 25,000 people attended. Some attendees later claimed on social media however that the lines were too long and there weren’t enough samples.

One attendee who reached out to NBC10 called the event a “cluster mess” and a “complete waste of money.”

“We spent over $80 for two tix and never got to sample one cheese-steak.,” he wrote. “A complete triangulated mess. Way TOO many people with TOO few vendors in a TOO tiny enclosure. After waiting in one line for over an hour, we left the festival and went to South Philly for cheese-steaks instead. I've seen shorter lines and quicker movement at Disney World. So with parking (another$20), plus our two tickets, we spent over $100 to stand in a line, only to leave after an hour wait. For those who couldn't or didn't attend, consider yourselves Lucky.”

The festival’s organizers responded to the complaints in a statement to NBC10.

“This was a first year food festival. Like any other first year event you run into things you can do better,” they wrote. “While there were certainly long lines for Cheesesteaks, the lines were moving and the Cheesesteak Vendors did an excellent job producing a quality product for the attendees to sample. Some Cheesesteak Vendors were busier than others so we see a larger operation for these Cheesesteak Vendors to be an opportunity for improvement next year. We appreciate all the feedback, positive and negative and plan to make adjustments.”

The event featured a sandwich from Steve's Prince of Steaks and Amoroso's Bakery that broke the record for the world's largest cheeseteak, measuring close to 500 feet.

Jason Peters Suffers Lower Back Injury

Eagles left tackle Jason Peters was carted off the field in the first quarter of Sunday night's game against the Panthers with a lower-back injury.

He went in for X-rays and is questionable to return in the game.

The seven-time Pro Bowler was blocking on a second-down play when he went down.

His teammates and several Panthers gathered around him before the cart took him away.

The play after Peters was carted off, Matt Tobin shifted to left tackle and reserve offensive lineman Dennis Kelly came in at right guard.

Peters, 33, dealt with a quad injury earlier in the season but has started all seven of the Eagles' games in 2015.

Eagles Fall to Panthers in SNF Matchup

The Eagles got down early again.

But this time, they couldn’t recover in a 27-16 loss to the undefeated Panthers at Bank of America Stadium.

The last two weeks, the Eagles gave up early touchdowns to the Saints and Giants but recovered to put together two straight wins. They couldn’t pull off another comeback on Sunday Night Football.

At least they made it close.

The Eagles even got the ball with about three minutes left and trailing by eight points, but couldn’t move down the field and turned it over on downs in their own end while the Panthers added another field goal.

With the loss, the Eagles blew an opportunity to have a winning record before bye week and fell to 3-4. The Panthers remain undefeated at 6-0.

The Eagles were down 15 points early in the third quarter after Carolina scored on its opening drive in the second half but the Eagles rebounded. The Birds scored on the ensuing drive, when Ryan Mathews took a handoff and went 63 yards for the score.

Down five, the Eagles drove down the field but Caleb Sturgis missed a 50-yard field goal. The Panthers made a field goal on the ensuing drive to put them up eight.

The Panthers got on the scoreboard first on a four-play, 72-yard drive in the first quarter. On that drive, the Panthers should have been pinned deep but an ill-timed and ill-advised headbutt from Najee Goode after the play gave them much better field position.

The Eagles scored their first points on a 52-yard field goal by Sturgis. The field goal was Sturgis’ longest as an Eagle. But the Panthers scored on the next possession to extend the lead to two scores.

With their win over the Cowboys on Sunday and the Eagles’ loss, the Giants are all alone in first place in the NFC East (see NFC East Wrap).

Turning point
After the Eagles’ first points of the game came on a long field goal, the Panthers got the Eagles to bite hard on a reverse play.

Newton started to run the ball right and when the Birds’ defense shifted that way, he pitched the ball to Ted Ginn Jr., who sprinted down the left sideline for a gain of 43. Newton punched in a touchdown run two plays later to put the Panthers up, 14-3.

Key stats
While the Eagles forced three turnovers, they scored just six points off them.

The Eagles gave up 204 rushing yards on Sunday night. Coming into the weekend, the biggest rushing output from any of their opponents was 127 by the Redskins. The Panthers had 118 rushing yards by halftime. Jonathan Stewart went over 100 yards and is the first running back to do so against the Eagles since Frank Gore last year in Week 4.

Offensive stud

Mathews continues to make his case for more carries. He had a 63-yard touchdown, the longest of his career.

Bradford didn’t have an amazing game but he wasn’t the problem on Sunday. He made some nice throws and had many of his passes dropped.

Offensive dud
Jordan Matthews continues to have problems catching the ball. A couple more drops on Sunday night. One was thrown behind him but the ball was catchable and the bobble led to an interception. Another was a great pass from Bradford that would have gone for a first down. Darren Sproles dropped a couple and Josh Huff dropped one in the end zone. Two drops on the final drive of the game put the last nail in the coffin.

Defensive stud
Malcolm Jenkins had another good game and made a big-time interception toward the end of the first half. In fact, three of the four members in the secondary had interceptions.

Defensive dud
Bennie Logan, who had been playing at a Pro Bowl level, had two encroachment penalties that allowed Newton to have an easy rushing touchdown in the second quarter. Logan is also supposed to be the team’s run-stuffer but the Panthers put up a big game rushing against the Eagles.

Injuries
Eagles left tackle Jason Peters hurt his lower back and was carted off in the first quarter (see story). He went into the locker room for X-rays and did not return. It was announced that he had lower back spasms.

DeMeco Ryans was inactive with a hamstring injury. He hurt his hammy last week against the Giants and didn’t practice all week. He was listed as questionable coming into the game.

Up next
The Eagles have their bye week and won’t be back in action until Nov. 8 against the Cowboys on the road. They follow that game with two at home against Miami and Tampa Bay.
