A raging fire destroyed an historic synagogue in New Jersey just hours before Friday services.

The Poile Zedek Synagogue on Neilson Street in New Brunswick caught fire around 4:30 p.m. and firefighters battled for two hours to bring it under control.  No injuries have been reported.

One person was inside the building at the time the fire was reported, but managed to leave safely and firefighters said the synagogue's Sefer Trorah was rescued frrom the building.

Footage from News Chopper 4 showed firefighters pouring water into the building from three areas but flames were still shooting out of the synagogue's roof and windows. But by 6 p.m. flames were no longer visible as firefighters kept dousing water on it.

Nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

According to its website, the Poile Zedek Synagogue was built in 1923 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.  The synagogue attracts worshipers from the Russian and Ukrainian communities in Middlesex County and surrounding communities, the site said.

Both suspects in a Delaware home invasion that left a man and a teenage girl, who police say came to the scene with the suspects are now in police custody.

Saleem Shabazz, 21, and Matthew Harrington, 23, both of Philadelphia, allegedly entered a home on the 1400 block of John Clark Road in Dover, Delaware, around 1:40 a.m. October 17.

A woman told police one of the suspects shot her father, later identified as Clifton Leager, 52, who lived at the home, during a struggle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Leager’s son, who was inside the home at the time, was also shot during the altercation but managed to chase after the suspects as they fled. Leager’s son was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

During the chase, more shots were fired and a teen, identified by state police as 18-year-old Haley Henwood, of Philadelphia, was struck. Henwood was taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. Investigators said Henwood accompanied Shabazz and Harrington to the home.

On Friday, Police announced Shabazz was captured by police in Norristown and faced murder, armed robbery and related charges.

Harrington turned himself in to Buckingham Township Police in Bucks County earlier in the week.

The Washington Redskins are responding to a home invasion at the Los Angeles residence of injured wide receiver DeSean Jackson Wednesday.

Four armed intruders entered Jackson's occupied home in the San Fernando Valley on Wednesday, according to a Los Angeles Police Department representative. The report of the home invasion first appeared in TMZ.com, which reported four to five intruders broke into Jackson's home.

Jackson wasn't home at the time, police said, but there were five people present when the home invasion occurred; it was unclear how they were related to Jackson. TMZ reported the home's occupants fought with the intruders, who then fled the scene, but the LAPD did not confirm that information. The police report was not immediately available.

The police representative did say that no injuries were reported in the incident. It was unknown what was taken from the house, which is in the 19000 block of Santa Rita Street.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden addressed the report Friday afternoon.

"Obviously he's concerned and he's letting law enforcement there take care of it," Gruden said. "Some things happened at his house, and he's concerned as every home owner would be. He'll get to the bottom of it as will the police, and we'll go from there.

Jackson, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, was not available during the team's open locker room media availability.

Jackson's publicist said DeSean had no knowledge of the incident until Thursday night and is waiting for police to get more information.

KNBC's Joe Studley contributed to this report.

A University of Delaware student fought off her attacker, kicking him in the groin to escape his grips after he forced her to the ground in dark area on campus, according to police.

The victim, a sophomore, was walking by herself to the store when she was surprised by the attacker, who came up from behind her near Smyth Hall on Academy Street just after midnight Thursday.

The woman told police he pushed her into a construction area by the building and then to the ground and tried  to sexually assault her. She kicked him in the groin and got away with minor injuries.

Campus police were going through surveillance video Friday they hoped might show the man leaving the area after the attack.

Tracking Items From Pope Visit

During the weekend of September 26-27, hundreds of thousands of people crammed into different parts of Philadelphia to get a glimpse of Pope Francis.

But now, almost a month later, what happened to the objects closest to the Holy Father?

Father Dennis Gill, Rector at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, says the church hopes to keep the chair used by Pope Francis, but the other items will likely be distributed.

The alter will go to a parish in need, he said, and the small metal containers used for communion, all 1,500 of them, will also go to various parishes.

As for the carpet that is as long as a quarter of a football field, Father Gill says “what we were thinking was cutting it up into several smaller pieces then making use of it that way.”

Pope Francis took his robe and garments back to Rome with him.

Perhaps the most noticeable objects, the two Fiats deemed the “popemobiles”, are being held in an undisclosed location pending further instructions from the Vatican.

Frazier surrendered the animals to the PSPCA. The two Pomeranians are in foster care, and the cat and Pit Bull (pictured) are up for adoption at the PSPCA’s Erie headquarters.

Frazier will pay $100 in fines for each count, totaling $400.

Jerry Buckley, CEO of the PSPCA said animal cruelty is unacceptable, and encourages the public to “give these animals the homes they deserve."
