A 27-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with a hit-and-run earlier this month that has left a New Jersey college student in a coma.

Michael Choynowski, 27, is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury. He is also charged with endangering an injured victim. Choynowski faces three to five years in prison on each count if convicted.

Clifton Police say that a dark pickup truck, possibly a Ford F-150, hit and critically injured 22-year-old Anna Semioli as she was walking along Route 46 at about midnight on Oct. 9. The vehicle left the scene after hitting the Montclair State University student.

Police say they reviewed surveillance video and identified the vehicle's driver, Choynowski. Semioli's family had offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Semioli was supposed to be meeting friends on campus the night of the hit-and-run, according to friends. Her car was found parked in a campus parking lot about a mile from where she was struck.

Semioli was in a coma at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, her family said. She was believed to still be in a coma Thursday.

A Fairmount bar slash music venue is saying good bye to live music as it shifts to a new look and name.

The North Star Bar, located at the corner of 27th and Poplar streets, will be open through Oct. 17 before shutting down for a short time to undergo renovations, according to its website.

Well-known for live performances, the new bar will no longer offer live music and is shedding its name. It is unclear when the re-opening will take place.

Police have released surveillance video of two suspects wanted in the robbery and carjacking of a Temple University football player.

The incident happened about 12:35 a.m. Thursday outside a take-out store at 10th Street and Susquehanna Avenue in North Philadelphia.

Investigators say the 21-year-old male, a football player for Temple, was walking out of the store when he was approached by two males, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The suspects, police say, attempted to force the victim into his car. When the victim refused, the suspects forced him to the ground and took his car keys and cell phone.

The suspects jumped into the victim’s car and drove away. The car is a 2005 Cadillac CTS with a New Jersey tag #D80EBK.

A second Temple University student was robbed at gunpoint several hours later. Police do not believe the incidents are related.

Teacher Indicted in NJ Abuse Case

The 31-year-old teacher caught on cellphone video manhandling a child at Hoboken Apple Montessori School in New Jersey was indicted Friday on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and child abuse.

A video clip obtained by NBC 4 New York in May shows Kelli Dugan in red, sitting and holding a 2-year-old girl by her legs, preventing her from moving freely. The teacher is heard cursing in the video; she yells at the child and eventually swings her over a fence before dragging her back inside.

Dugan's attorney said he was confident that charges would be dismissed when all the evidence was presented.

"I'm surprised at the severity of the indictment because the video doesn't seem to support the charges," said Dugan's lawyer Anthony Carbone.

The school said it has implemented a comprehensive five-point plan to reinforce staff training, enhance security, and strengthen protocols for child safety and security.

"When this incident was brought to our attention, we felt compelled to take immediate and definitive measures -- which, of course, included reporting to local and state authorities," Apple Montessori School said in a statement. "The behavior depicted in a related video clearly is inconsistent with the school’s reputation for high-quality education, which has been maintained by more than 2,000 teachers and staff who have cared for students during the school’s 42- year history."

The indictment of Dugan comes a little more than a week after a teacher's aide at the school, Elisabeth Gomez, was cleared by a grand jury of abuse and other charges after a separate cellphone video showed her forcefully handling a toddler to put a hat on her head.

In Gomez's case, the grand jury ruled there was no probable cause to indict.

Meanwhile, the parents of the two children have filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages from Apple Montessori Schools and several employees for negligence, emotional damage, breach of contract, assault and other charges.

Apple Montessori, which runs 17 schools in New Jersey, fired five employees after the videos were released. The terminated employees included both teachers seen in the videos and the director and the assistant director of the Hoboken school.

The owners of Apple Montessori have declined multiple requests for an interview, but said in a statement to NBC New York that the owners “took immediate and definitive action” and that they have “reviewed and reinforced training” procedures.

The Hoboken Prosecutor’s Office urges anyone who knows a child is being abused to report it to the New Jersey Department of Children and Families hotline at 1-877-NJ-Abuse, local police departments, or the Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit at (201) 915-1234.

An argument over money at a suburban Philadelphia cab company’s headquarters Friday afternoon left a boss shot.

Abington Township Police responded to the Montco Suburban Taxi Company along Mount Carmel Avenue near Limekiln Pike in the North Hills section of the township around 1:30 p.m., said county dispatchers.

Police arrived to find Alex Kagan, a supervisor, suffering from a gunshot wound to his side, said police. Medics transported Kagan, a father of three, to Abington Memorial Hospital where he was conscious and alert while awaiting surgery, said Kagan's business partner Roman Barkan.

Investigators said the shooter, 45-year-old Ozzie Lou Clark, Jr., felt he was owed money by the cab company.

After opening fire, Clark refused to allow three other employees in the office to call an ambulance for Kagan and instead demanded a bookkeeper write him a check for the money he wanted, according to police. He fled toward Philadelphia after getting the check.

Clark made it about 20 miles south before officers found him.

Philadelphia Police stopped the worker's blue Dodge Avenger at 72nd Street and Woodland Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia. He was arrested.

Police said a .40-caliber handgun was found in the car. Police also took a woman who was in the man's car into custody.

Abington Police said Clark will be brought back to Abington and charged in the case.

Tracy Morgan's 'SNL' Challenge

$

Tracy Morgan, until a near-fatal auto accident 16 months ago, practiced the chaos theory of humor, from expertly delivered scattershot silliness (his stints on "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock") to volatile, rapid-fire joke-telling (his often stream-of-consciousness and sometimes controversial stand-up act).

The unpredictability that helped make Morgan a comedy force on multiple stages rises to a new, serious level this weekend when he hosts "Saturday Night Live," in his first major TV gig since suffering brain trauma and broken bones. The only safe prognostication is that fans will be rooting for him.

The 46-year-old entertainer's "SNL" return (alongside musical guest Demi Lovato) marks the latest step in a long, public comeback since a tractor trailer slammed into his vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike, killing his friend and fellow comedian James McNair. Dire reports about Morgan's mortality gave way to sobering pictures of him as he began physical rehab.

Morgan’s injuries forced him to skip the "SNL" 40th anniversary special in February. Four months later, in an emotional interview with Matt Lauer on "Today," an at-times repetitive and weepy Morgan vowed: “I'll get back to making you laugh, I promise you.”

He'll get his chance Saturday at 30 Rockefeller Center, where he started on "SNL" nearly 20 years ago, creating characters like boisterous, animal-loving TV host Brian Fellows and developing the persona framework for Tracy Jordan, the comic he'd later play on Tina Fey's sitcom, "30 Rock."

In previews for his “SNL” homecoming, Morgan joked about his injuries, suggesting that in keeping with his past approach to comedy, nothing is off-limits. "Did I used to work here?" he quipped during an exchange with cast member Bobby Moynihan.

The bit underscored a quality that made fans embrace Morgan, long before the 2014 accident: Anything can happen when he goes "live from New York." The comic’s remarkable recovery hopefully will extend to the familiar “SNL” stage as he caps his battle through a personal hell, determined to make good on a promise to himself as much as to his audience.
