Several cars were damaged by fire in the parking lot of a Wyncote, Montgomery County apartment building Saturday night.

Montgomery County emergency dispatchers tell NBC10 four cars caught fire after an engine ignited in one of the vehicles parked at the Towers at Wyncote, on Limekiln Pike near Route 309, about 9 p.m.

The intense flames ignited gasoline in one of the cars causing a small explosion. NBC10 viewer @UnclePerk shared video of the fire as it burned.

There were no reports of injuries. The cause is under investigation.

It's the second time this summer that there has been a fire at the complex. In June, a fire in one of the apartment towers erupted, leading to evacuations and eventually growing to three alarms.

A Delaware County police officer was recovering Sunday morning after police say a man stabbed him during a scuffle outside a South Philadelphia hotel.

The Tinicum Township officer was doing a good deed when things went awry, police said: He was giving the suspect a courtesy transport from a Motel 6 in Tinicum to the nearby Holiday Inn Philadelphia Stadium at 10th Street and Packer Avenue in South Philadelphia.

When the officer and the suspect, who were both in the officer's cruiser, arrived at the hotel about 8:20 p.m., a scuffle between them broke out, police said.

The fight spilled out of the cruiser, and ended when the suspect stabbed the officer in the shoulder and fled the scene. Philadelphia Police responded and took the wounded officer to Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was in stable condition.

Police tracked down and arrested the suspect a short while later. He has not yet been publicly identified, and official charges have not been filed.

It was unclear what sparked the scuffle, and the incident remained under investigation early Sunday.

A man who jumped into a creek in an attempt to avoid police in Philadelphia Sunday morning is in hot water after police still managed to catch him.

Police said an officer spotted the man driving erratically in the area of Torresdale Avenue and Vandike Street, in the Frankford neighborhood, shortly before 9 a.m. The officer began to follow the driver and stopped, but a second officer then picked up on the driver and also began following him, according to authorities. The man then bailed out of the car and jumped into nearby Frankford Creek in an apparent attempt to avoid being stopped by the officers.

Marine Unit officers responded to the scene and were able to pull the suspect out of the creek, police said. Only NBC10 photographer Pete Kane was at the scene as a large group of police led the soaking man away from the creek in handcuffs.

Police said they found drugs in the man’s car and that he could potentially face charges including DUI, drug possession and eluding police.

NJ Crash Sends Car Airborne, Sliding 300 Feet

Two young men survived a severe rollover crash that sent their car airborne and careening more than 300 feet in Ocean County, NJ late Saturday night, but one was seriously injured, police said.

Police were called to the area of Route 37 and Colonial Drive just after 11 p.m., and when they arrived, they found a 2012 Chevy Impala flipped on its roof in the eastbound lanes of Route 37 just past the intersection. The Impala, driven by 21-year-old Eric Larson, of Jackson, had been traveling west on Route 37, apparently careened out of control and crashed head-on into the concrete divider on the highway, police said. The car then went airborne, flew over the divider and traveled about 70 feet before flipping onto its passenger side and rolling onto its roof in the eastbound lanes, police said. On its roof, the car continued to slide before finally stopping 320 feet away from where it first struck the median, according to investigators.

Larson, police said, was properly restrained at the time of the crash and refused medical treatment. His passenger, 22-year-old Taylor Bromberg, was also properly seat belted, according to police, but suffered severe injuries to his abdomen. Bromberg was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, and his condition was not known, police said.

Police said the Manchester Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section is continuing to investigate the one-car crash.
