An Amtrak train carrying more than 300 passengers from New York to Philadelphia was halted Saturday morning after authorities say the train struck and killed a trespasser on the tracks in Bucks County.
Amtrak Keystone Service train 663 was Philadelphia-bound about 10:15 a.m. as it passed through the SEPTA Regional Rail station at Levittown-Tullytown, off of Bristol Pike and Fallsington Avenue in Levittown, when it struck the trespasser, Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz said. The unidentified trespasser died, and the train, which was carrying 304 passengers, was stopped while authorities conducted an investigation.
The train's passengers were transferred to a SEPTA train about 1 p.m. and continued on to 30th Street Station as the Amtrak train remained at the scene while authorities investigated the death, Schulz said.
SEPTA officials said service between Croydon Station and Trenton Transportation Center that had been suspended as a result of the investigation resumed about noon, but trains still could not make stops at Levittown Station due to Amtrak police's investigation.
No injuries to crew members or passengers on the Amtrak train were reported.
