Report: New Details in Bill Cosby Deposition

Bill Cosby admitted to seducing a young model by showing interest in her father’s cancer, promised to mentor other women before having sex with them and tried to use his money to prevent his wife from finding out about his extramarital affairs, according to the New York Times.

The New York Times obtained the full deposition from Bill Cosby when he was questioned at a Philadelphia hotel ten years ago while defending himself against a lawsuit filed by a woman who accused him of drugging and molesting her.

The New York Times reports Cosby denied being a sexual predator but admitted to being a womanizer who used various means to seduce young women.

You can read about more details from the deposition HERE.

The new information comes after U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno unsealed excerpts from Cosby's deposition in response to an Associated Press request, concluding that the public had a right to see "the stark contrast" between Cosby the public moralist and the statements he made under oath about his lifestyle and conduct. The excerpts show Cosby admitting that he obtained quaaludes in the 1970s so that he could give them to young women he pursued for extramarital sex. Asked if they knew what they were taking, his lawyers objected and he never answered.

Frustrated by their attempts to dodge questions, attorney Dolores M. Troiani went to court then to force Cosby and his lawyers to cooperate in the pretrial deposition. She asked that Robreno force the comedian to answer 50 questions about his lifestyle, drug use and sexual encounters with 13 other "Jane Doe" women who had come forward to say Cosby had molested and perhaps drugged them years earlier.

The deposition eventually proceeded. And Troiani now wants his answers to those questions made public.

Cosby settled the case after his deposition for an unknown sum. Both sides agreed to keep the terms confidential and not comment on what did or didn't happen between them.

Cosby has never been charged with a crime and has repeatedly denied the allegations. Most of the sexual misconduct accusations that more than a dozen women have made against him happened too long ago for criminal charges.

3-Alarm South Philly Fire Could Be Arson

UPDATE, 9:28 a.m.: Anyone with vehicles parked on Snyder Avenue between Broad Street and 13th is urged to move cars immediately so they won't be towed. Philadelphia Gas Works crews are at the scene investigating a possible gas leak and need the block cleared, officials said.

An early morning fire that tore through a building under construction and spread to several rowhouses in South Philadelphia is being investigated as a possible arson, authorities said.

Police were searching for two persons of interest possibly connected to the fire Sunday morning after a witness reported seeing two men at the scene just before the flames erupted.

Firefighters were called to the blaze, which officials said was initially reported as a trash fire, shortly before 4 a.m. Video from the scene early Sunday morning showed heavy flames and smoke coming from the building, which is a mixed-use apartment and retail site under construction, near Snyder Avenue and Juniper Street.

Fire officials and police at the scene told NBC10's Jesse Gary that the blaze is being investigated as a possible arson. It reached three alarms and took firefighters an hour and 45 minutes to bring under control, and they remained at the scene putting water on the building after 6 a.m. Shortly after 7 a.m., the flames were doused, and firefighters began removing equipment from the scene.

A man who was near the building at the time told NBC10 that just before the blaze erupted, he saw two men near the building where it started.

"I seen a guy with a hoodie ... and another gentleman on the roof," Barry Ippolito, who spoke with investigators Sunday morning, told Jesse Gary. "About five minutes later, I seen the guy with the hoodie come running out ... and about two minutes after he ran, boom, a huge explosion, debris and stuff everywhere."

At least four rowhouses adjacent to the building were damaged, and the entire block of Snyder Avenue was evacuated, officials said. The 17 people -- 15 adults and two kids -- displaced by the fire were given shelter first at South Philadelphia High School and then moved to the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts on Broad Street near Christian, because PECO cut power to the area of South Philadelphia High.

No injuries were reported early Sunday morning as crews remained at the scene cleaning up in the wake of the blaze. PECO and Philadelphia Gas Works officials were working to decide when it would be safe to restore service to the area.

A City of Philadelphia "Heatline" call center will open at noon as a National Weather Service excessive heat warning goes into effect for the region.

The "Heatline" number is 215-765-9040, and lines will be open from noon until midnight, city officials said. Staff will be available on the line to advise on how to avoid heat dangers and to refer anyone in need of medical attention to emergency services. The line will also be open 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.

Heat in the mid-90s with sun and high humidity will feel like 102 to 107 in many areas.

Philadelphia Health Commissioner James Buehler has issued a warning for the city beginning at noon, activating the city's summer heat programs, including the Heatline, home visits by field teams and enhanced homeless outreach.

The city Health Department is encouraging citizens to visit older friends, relatives and neighbors to ensure they are in safe conditions in their homes as the heat and humidity intensify. In heat waves, officials said, groups most at risk include senior citizens, pregnant women, young children, people who work in high-heat environments and those with pre-existing medical conditions. Officials urged those without air conditioning to seek relief from the heat in malls, movie theaters, senior centers or other public spaces.

The Health Department outlined several precautions for citizens to beat the heat, including:

  • Use air conditions and fans.
  • Open windows to release trapped hot air.
  • Drink plenty of water or other non-alcoholic fluids.
  • Wear a head covering such as a brimmed hat or visor to protect the head and face should you need to be outdoors.
  • Shower or bathe in water that is near skin temperature.
  • Do not leave children or pets alone in vehicles.

Early warning signs of heat stress including lethargy, loss of appetite, light-headed feeling and nausea. More serious indications of major heat stress include unconsciousness, confusion, rapid heartbeat, throbbing headache, dry skin, chest pain, irritability, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps and difficulty breathing. Anyone with these symptoms is urged to seek immediate medical attention.

Officials found the body of a swimmer who went missing in the Delaware River.

Officials say the unidentified man was reported missing in the Delaware River near York Street in Burlington City, New Jersey at 7:14 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses told NBC10 two men and a woman were walking along the waterfront ledge and then jumped over the railing to swim across the river to Burlington Island where an abandoned amusement park is located.

"They got on the ledge and all three of them jumped in, one after the other," said Chris Ventriello.

As the swimmers got to the halfway point, one of the men, who is in his 20's, started to struggle.

"He went down once, came back up and went down a second time," said Miles Smith. "That was the last time we saw him."

Witnesses say several people on the shore tried to help but the man disappeared.

"They jumped in the water and threw life preservers," Ventriello said. "The one gentleman that jumped in actually had his hands on him for a second. But he couldn't get him."

State police and local dive teams later found the man's body around 9 p.m. He has not yet been identified.

Burlington City officials issued an executive order banning people from going to Burlington island though people often still swim across.

"It's deep and it's narrow and those currents can go up, down, left or right," said Burlington Mayor James Fazzone. "We don't want anyone on the island and that's been in effect for awhile."

This is the third incident in which a swimmer has gone missing in the Delaware River in the past two days. Sunday morning a 22-year-old Virginia man went missing while swimming in the river in Bristol, Bucks County.

On Saturday a 41-year-old man died after he tried to swim across the Delaware River in Pike County.
