Police in Delaware County, Pennsylvania are looking for help identifying the armed suspect who robbed $2,300 from a Chickie’s and Pete’s manager preparing to make a bank deposit.

The victim, manager of the popular restaurant's Drexel Hill location along Township Line Road, was able to provide police with a description of the gunman who made off with the cash and her handbag just before 10 a.m. Friday, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

The restaurant manager was walking across the parking lot to make a deposit at the bank when she was approached by the suspect. He ordered her to hand over her pocketbook, which contained the deposit and personal items like her driver’s license, bank card and keys.

The suspect was last seen running across Township Line onto Fairway Road toward Burmont Road, police said.

The gunman was described as male, in his 20s, wearing black pants, black shoes and a blue hoodie with white lettering. He was carrying a gray handgun.

The robbery occurred just a few blocks from Aronimink and St. Dorothy Elementary Schools, so they were kept secure for about an hour while police investigated. The suspect may have fled in a black Mercury Mountaineer SUV.

Chickie's and Pete's is offering up a $5,000 reward for the suspect's arrest and conviction.

This Chickie’s and Pete’s location was also robbed in October 2014. Two gunman locked employees and the manager in the freezer and stole around $16,000. That investigation is ongoing.

Police do not believe the suspect in the recent robbery was involved in the prior incident.

Anyone who has information as to the suspect’s identity or the robbery is asked to contact township detectives at 610-734-7693.

A pair of bears caught rummaging through trash in a residential New Jersey neighborhood apparently weren't prepared to share the goods with each other.

Montville Township resident Tracey Bednash captured video of the two bears battling one another at a tipped garbage can on trash day.

Bednash said she saw the bears in the cul-de-sac in Towaco sauntering toward her neighbor's recycling bin.

"It's not uncommon for them to come around here on garbage day and ransack the cans," Bednash told NBC 4 New York in an email. "The huge mama bear was seen around the neighborhood the past week or two. I'm sure she was lurking around."

The state Division of Fish and Wildlife warns residents to never feed or approach a bear. Repeated black bear damage or nuisance behavior can be reported to the DEP at 877-927-6337.

Parking Payment App Coming to Philly by Summer's End

You'll soon be able to pay for parking in Philadelphia with your smartphone now that the Philadelphia Parking Authority has inked a deal with a mobile parking payment service.

The PPA announced Thursday its board of directors had chosen Pango USA to administer the service after reviewing proposals from five companies.

Using an app, drivers will be able to pay for parking and — of most interest to drivers — get alerts before the meter runs out and add more time to the clock. The last feature will help users avoid getting costly $36 parking tickets.

The amount of time you'd be able to extend your parking stay is up in the air, but the PPA said its proposing that rates increase with each time addition beyond the parking limit.

That means, for example, if you park in a spot that has a posted 2 hour limit at a cost of $2, adding an additional 2 hours could cost you $4 extra.

Officials are hoping the extended limit price increases will help entice parking spot turnover. Philadelphia City Council is considering the extended payment options and costs.

The app is expected to roll out by the end of the summer with a pilot program in Center City. Drivers who park in the area between 4th and 20th Streets and Arch and Locust Streets will be able to use the app.

A stretch of Columbus Boulevard — between Spring Garden and Race Streets — and parking lots at the Torresdale Rail Station and 8th and Chestnut Streets will also be included in the pilot.

The pilot is expected to last six months before the app is opened to the entire city.

Under the deal, Pango will cover the cost of credit card processing, data plans for devices used by enforcement staffers and app marketing, according to the PPA. They said the terms will ensure the city and School District of Philadelphia will continue to get millions of dollars in revenue currently brought in by parking tickets.

Pango currently offers service in several cities including Scranton, Mount Vernon, New York and Alexandria, Virginia.

A 24-year-old New Jersey man on probation who threatened police officers with a meat cleaver when they came to check on him after missing an appointment was shot and killed Thursday, a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation tells NBC 4 New York.

Elvin Diaz pulled the large knife on the three officers who were sent to his Hackensack home for a probation welfare check around 2 p.m., and the officers opened fire, authorities said.

Hackensack police Director Michael Mordaga told The Record. Diaz put the officers in a situation where they had no choice.

Mordaga says the three officers were taken to the hospital to be treated for shock and that they were distraught and upset.

Diaz was previously charged with arson, narcotics, aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

It wasn't clear how many shots were fired, nor was it known how many of the three officers fired their weapons.

19 Guns Stolen During Smash & Grab

A crew of burglars smashed their way into a Delaware County, Pennsylvania gun shop and stole more than one dozen handguns and revolvers, police tell NBC10.

Three or four men broke into The Suburban Armory at 1000 MacDade Boulevard in Collingdale around 4 a.m. Thursday, Collingdale Police Chief Robert Adams said.

The men smashed a large front window to get inside and made their way to a gun counter, climbed on top and jumped up and down until the reinforced glass broke, Adams said. They then snatched the weapons and tried to steal rifles, but couldn't get them loose from a security cable.

"There's 18 weapons on the street now. That's pretty severe," Adams said. "One gun is bad enough, but 18, that's 18 guns that are in the hands of somebody that shouldn't have them."

The ATF later upped the gun total to 19.

The entire heist was carried out in two minutes, surveillance video showed. Cameras caught two cars leaving the scene after the crime — a cream colored, older model sedan and a burgundy Pontiac minivan. A witness was able to get a partial plate of "Y-Z" from the minivan.

Adams said investigators were able to retrieve some DNA evidence from the counter, which they hope will lead them to the burglars.

This is the third time this gun shop has been targeted by robbers. In 2008, several people were charged following a burglary and last year robbers tried to hold up store employees.

Groups Spend Big Money to Battle Nasty Pest in Pa.

A Pennsylvania county's battle continues against a tiny insect that has caused big worries as officials look to stop the spread of the colorful pest.

Officials first called for a quarantine in Berks County to contain the Spotted Lanternfly last year.

On Thursday, officials revealed that more than 20,000 Lanternfly have been terminated and that some egg masses were destroyed before hatching.

The Spotted Lanternfly, a red-and-white and spotted winged insect indigenous to parts of Asia, which feeds on grapes, apples, pines, stone fruits and more than 70 additional species continues to be spotted in Berks County, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

“Berks County is the front line in the war against Spotted Lanternfly,” said Agriculture Secretary George Greig back in November.

County, state and federals groups have teamed up to get the insect -- which measures about 1-inch long as an adult.

"Working together, we successfully eradicated plum pox from the state, and now we're bringing that same cooperation and resolve to the fight against the Spotted Lanternfly," said APHIS Administrator Kevin Shea.

The Department of Agriculture has put $1.4 million into fighting the insect including putting up tree bands and hiring survey crews. The state put another $1.5 million toward the cause in hopes of protecting the area's grape, apple, stone fruit and logging industries.

The hope is to stop the insect from attacking cash crops in the county.

The Lanternfly, aka Lycorma delicatula, has no natural enemies and can only be controlled using pesticides that may also kill off the natural enemies of other pests, according to a report mentioned by KPBS.

The Spotted Lanternfly can lay 30 to 50 eggs at a time to the bark of a tree -- the pest especially likes the Tree of Heaven and other smooth bark trees -- leaving a gray, waxy, mudlike coating that looks like gray or black sap dripping down the tree once the eggs hatch, according to the agriculture officials.

Delaware investigators tried to unravel what happened after two people were taken from a home unconscious just hours after a woman suffered a deadly heart attack in the same New Castle County home.

New Castle County Paramedics responded to the 400 block of Morehouse Drive in the Dunlieth community Tuesday afternoon to find a 79-year-old woman in cardiac arrest. The woman died at Wilmington Hospital a short time later, said county police.

Around 4 a.m. the next morning, medics returned to the home to find a 79-year-old man unconscious, said police. They rushed him to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

Later Wednesday, medics returned to the home for a third time to take a 58-year-old unconscious man from the property, said police. That man was also taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

Department of Public Health, the Delaware Department of Homeland Security Division of Forensic Science, and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources joined county police in investigating the incidents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact county police at (302)395-8110 or (302)573-2800.
