There was a special guest at Temple's annual Cherry & White game this year: Leah Still.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still and his daughter were in attendance for the Owls' spring game at Chodoff Field at Edberg Olson Hall.

Leah was the guest of honor and conducted the coin toss. In March, Devon announced his four-year-old daughter's cancer was in remission.

"She's doing really well," Still said. "She's doing really well since she's been in remission. She's had a few treatments, and we have a big one coming up May 5 where she's going to be in the hospital for six weeks doing her stem cell transplant and hopefully that's the last big hump we have to get over and she can just be a normal kid again."

And even better? Leah took a screen pass 45 yards for the best touchdown we'll see this year with the entire Temple football team and Hooter the Owl running with her.

"She loves playing football," Still said of his daughter. "Me and her play football a lot when we're by ourselves. But for her to be able to do it on a football field with a whole team running and blocking for her, I know she enjoyed that. She learns pretty well. She looks pretty athletic, she even surprised me with how fast she was running."

Man Accused of Shooting Officer Now in Custody

The man accused of shooting a Philadelphia Police bicycle officer is out of the hospital and now in custody, according to police.

William Nobblen is accused of shooting Officer Daniel "Danny" Kostick Thursday night. He was released from the hospital Saturday and will be charged with attempted murder, assault and weapons violations, police said.

The ordeal began Thursday around 10:15 p.m. when Kostick and his partner approached Nobblen while he was inside a white van in the area of Wilton Street and Girard Avenue, said police.

Nobblen, suspected of drugs, then backed up and took off, according to investigators. Kostick caught up to him around 51st and Master streets.

Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross explained what happened next: "They're having a brief discussion... the male turns to him and says, 'I don't want to have to do this' and then he fires at Officer Kostick. Kostick returns fire, striking the male."

Nobblen fired multiple shots -- one bullet struck Kostick in the right arm, said police. Kostick returned fire, striking Nobblen in the arm. After the shooting, the 35-year-old suspect ditched a 9 mm Ruger and fled -- police eventually caught up to him about a block away.

After the shooting, fellow officers rushed Kostick to Presbyterian Hospital for treatment. Ross said Kostick, a six-year veteran and father of two assigned to the 19th District, was in "good spirits" during treatment.

Kostick was pushed out of Presbyterian Hospital shortly before 2 p.m. Friday -- police said the bullet remained lodged in his arm.

"I'm feeling good," Kostick said as he left the University City Hospital. He told reporters he looked forward to seeing his children.

Nobblen was taken to Hahnemann Hospital after the shooting. He was then discharged Saturday and placed in police custody. Police say Nobblen has 13 prior arrests including DUI, assault and narcotics.

Memorial for Slain Dog-Walking Dad

A Philadelphia church community came together Sunday morning to celebrate the life of an Overbrook father who was murdered while walking his dog.

Loved ones and local leaders gathered at the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas on Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia to remember James Stuhlman. Attendees planted and blessed a new tree on the grounds in his honor.

Stuhlman, 51, was walking his dog along Woodcrest Avenue on March 12 when he was shot and killed by two teen boys during a robbery, police said. During Sunday’s event, Stuhlman’s brother Michael read a poem and shared his own memories.

“Jim’s legacy to all of us lives on in our hearts and our minds in our family just by the way that he lived,” Michael Stuhlman said. “And that’s all that any of us can hope to leave.”

Tyfine Hamilton and Brandon Smith, both 15, face murder, robbery and other related charges in Stuhlman’s death. A 14-year-old boy is also facing robbery and conspiracy charges for his alleged role in the crime though police say he was only a witness to the murder.

The teens were playing basketball when they decided to rob a man, investigators said. The boys picked Stuhlman as their target because he looked old and his dog appeared "weak," according to investigators.

Stuhlman pleaded for his life, saying "please don't shoot me," before he was shot once in the chest, according to Philadelphia Homicide Captain James Clark.

When officers arrived on the scene, the dog's leash was still in the man's hand and his pet was lying by his side, police said.

Smith was arrested a week after the fatal shooting while Hamilton's father helped negotiate his son's arrest, sources told NBC10. The teens are scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on April 29.

Stuhlman is survived by his daughter, wife and six siblings.

Officers Save Cat Stuck in Middle of New Jersey Highway: Police

Officers in New Jersey shut down highway lanes to save a frightened feline that somehow got stuck on top of a concrete barrier in the middle of a highway Saturday afternoon.

A driver reported seeing the cat straddling the median divider in the middle of State Highway 36 near Thompson Avenue in Leonardo, according to a Facebook post by the Middletown Township Police Department.

Officers responding to the scene found a “panic-stricken” gray striped cat perched on top of the barrier as cars sped by in both directions. As the officers got closer to the cat, it leapt from the barrier and ran towards the shoulder of the highway and under a police cruiser, where it buried itself in the car’s undercarriage.

Police turned off the car and called a tow truck and animal control to the scene, closing off several lanes of the highway for about an hour. Officers were able to free the cat, which was uninjured.

Police haven’t been able to locate an owner for the cat, which didn’t have a microchip and wasn’t wearing identifying tags. In the meantime, it has been placed with the Humane Society. Police say the owner can claim the cat, which is between 9 and 12 months old, by calling the Middletown health department at 732-615-2095.

Cops Charge 2nd Man in Drive-By Killing of NJ Teen

A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the drive-by shooting a promising New Jersey high school basketball player a week ago, authorities said Saturday.

Hasmeek Coles, 20, of Paterson, New Jersey, faces single counts of first-degree murder and receiving stolen property and three counts of attempted murder, said Pasaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes. His bail was set at $2 million, and it wasn't known Saturday if he's retained an attorney.

Coles was arrested Friday, one day after another city man charged in the case -- 20-year Gregory Oliver -- pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted murder and weapons charges.

Both men are charged in the death of 15-year-old Armoni Sexton. He was killed and three others were injured in a drive-by shooting in Paterson on April 18.

Sexton was a top scorer and rebounder at the Paterson Charter School for Science for Science and Technology.

Harley Breite, Oliver's attorney, has said his client is innocent of Sexton's death and was a victim himself of a drive-by shooting the same day. The lawyer said Oliver was wounded in the right arm.

Three other people, two males and a female between 15 and 20 years old, were wounded in the drive-by that killed Sexton.

Oliver, who was once a key player on the Kennedy High School football team, has a recent record of alleged violence and drug possession, according to news reports.
