A man waited for a Wawa employee to turn around before swiping cartons of cigarettes from a Northeast Philadelphia store.

The caught-on-camera incident played out around 6:30 a.m. on March, 29 at the Wawa at 9307 Krewstown Road in the city’s Bustleton section.

A man wearing a gray Jeff cap, dark blazer, button-downed shirt and ripped blue jeans can be seen asking for items from the employee -- at one point the man even takes out his wallet, appearing ready to pay.

But, as the employee turns his back to grab something else behind the counter, the man can be seen grabbing the cigarette cartons, pausing a moment and then walking out of the store.

Police hoped someone would recognize the man seen on video. If you have an information please call Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153/54.

2 Years Later: Search for Fruit Stand Vendor's Killer

Two years ago Saturday, Don Ly was stabbed to death near his own home as he prepped for his day as one of the popular food vendors in University City.

"He comes out around 5 a.m. every morning to load up his fruit truck and that’s when he was attacked," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said at the time.

Someone stabbed Ly in the abdomen, throat, chest and arms as he prepared his food stand and van that were parked along the 400 block of Vollmer Street in South Philadelphia. Ly was well-known in the community where he ran his fruit stand at 34th and Chestnut Streets in University City.

"My father Don Ly was a good man in every sense of the word," wrote Ly's daughter Leeto Ly in a guest column that appeared in the Daily Pennsylvanian following the killing. "He was always utmost honest, humble, gentle and kind to all people. He was a deeply loving devoted husband who married only once and for life. He was peaceful and never bore any ill will against any soul."

Police never revealed a motive in the crime but since nothing was taken it appears the killer possibly targeted Ly.

Two years later no suspect has turned up in the case despite a $25,000 reward and surveillance video that police say shows Ly's killer.

The video shows the suspect casually walking away after the murder. Police said one clue that could help lead them to the suspect is that he was wearing "Chuck Taylor" sneakers on the morning of the murder.

One year later, Ly's son, Hoanh Ly, made a public plea to find his father's killer remains unanswered:

"I am U.S. Army veteran, also I am my father's son and I am asking/begging the members of the public for help, if anyone knows anything, please contact the police."

Anyone with information in this unsolved murder should contact Philadelphia Police.

An autopsy has confirmed the co-owner of a fireplace store in New Jersey who was found lying on the floor of his shop in a pool of blood earlier this month died of multiple gunshot wounds, and investigators said Thursday they have classified his death as a homicide.

Richard Zariello, 51, died April 13, a day after his business partner and police found him on the floor of his Clean Sweep Chimney Depot on Route 46 in South Hackensack. The partner and police went there looking for him after his family reported not hearing from him for a few days.

Prosecutors have said they believe Zariello was attacked within a few days of being found, though the exact timing of the shooting -- and the circumstances surrounding it -- remain mysteries.

It wasn't clear if any money or property had been stolen from the store.

Authorities ask anyone who noticed unusual people or vehicle in the area of the store between Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12 to call the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential TIPS Line at 201-226-5532 or the South Hackensack Police Department at 201-440-0042.

A traffic stop took a potentially deadly turn late Thursday night when an officer opened fire on a driver, who then hit the cop with his car as he sped away from the scene.

Police from Lower Pottsgrove gave chase to a suspect around 8:50 p.m. Thursday, said township police.

A short time later, the officers caught up with the driver at High Street and Moser Road in Pottstown -- where the pursuit came to a stop for an unknown reason, Pennsylvania.

A Lower Pottsgrove officer stepped out of his patrol car and began to approach the suspect's vehicle when, investigators said, he felt threatened and opened fire.

The suspect then took off for a second time, striking the officer with his vehicle, police said. The officer was rushed to West Reading Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to county dispatchers.

Officers tracked down the suspect on the other side of Pottstown a short time later and were able to remove him from his vehicle, authorities said.

The driver was also hospitalized at West Reading Hospital for a gunshot wound, polce said. However authorities have yet to confirm if gunshot wound was due to the officer firing or occurred during an earlier incident.

It is unclear what led to the initial traffic stop. Investigators have not yet disclosed the nature of the threat that led the officer to discharge his weapon.

The spiritual leader of a South Jersey church stood accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage girl.

New Life in Christ Ministries Bishop James Simmons Jr. turned himself into Franklin Township Police arrested Wednesday morning after allegations arose that the 64-year-old bishop of the Malaga church carried on a four-year relationship with a woman who was 17 when the relationship began.

Police didn’t reveal many details about the relationship but they did say that the now 21-year-old woman isn’t affiliated with the church and that none of the sexual incidents appeared to have occurred at the church on Delsea Drive.

Simmons, who according to the church’s website has been married for 38 years and is a father of five, has served the New Life in Christ Ministries since 1981. His arrest stunned churchgoers.

"I don't think it's true," said churchgoer Shantel Withers. “He's a great man, he will help anybody, he would take his shirt off his back and give it to someone."

Simmons posted $150,000 bail. Reached by phone late Thursday, Simmons said he had no comment.
