Toddler Dies Days After Kensington Hit-&-Run

A 2-year-old boy is dead, succumbing to his injuries days after a hit-and-run driver struck the child's mother as she walked across a Kensington street while carrying her son in a car seat.

The toddler, David Alicea Jr., was pronounced dead at 1:38 a.m. at St. Christopher's Hospital, where the boy spent the last day's of his life, according to police.

The deadly hit-and-run crash happened on Mascher Street near Lehigh Avenue Monday night-- less than an hour after another hit-and-run claimed the life of a 4-year-old boy in southwest Philly.

Alicea's mother, 19-year-old Josephine Rivera, was only a few feet from her doorstep when the white sedan struck her, investigators said. The impact sent the mother under a parked pickup truck as the boy fell to the sidewalk.

Rivera suffered head trauma in the crash. She was treated at Temple University Hospital and released earlier this week.

The Office of Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter announced Tuesday a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver in the Kensington incident.

Witnesses told police the vehicle, which had two men inside, fled the scene on Lehigh Avenue.

Investigators said they are reviewing surveillance footage, which captured a white vehicle that may have been the offender's car leaving the scene. Witnesses suggested the car was a Nissan Infiniti, authorities said.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Philadelphia Police.

The SUV that likely struck and killed 4-year-old Abdul Wilson Monday night was turned over Tuesday to police for processing. Michael Diamondstein, an attorney for the owner of the black Ford Edge, contacted police with the vehicle's location -- an underground parking garage at Love Park.

Initially officials expected the SUV's owner to surrender to police Wednesday, but the woman had yet to turn herself in early Thursday morning.

Diamondstein said his client was behind the wheel when the deadly crash occurred.

Two suspects pulled guns on people in several, separate armed robberies in Northeast Philly Wednesday and then led police on a chase before they were captured.

Authorities arrested the two gunmen around midnight in the backyard of a Nester Street home -- not far from the intersection of Welsh Road and Roosevelt Boulevard.

The suspects allegedly performed several armed robberies in the Bustleton and Somerton sections of the city throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening. Late Wednesday night, police responded to another robbery attempt on Verree Road -- about two miles from where the arrest took place.

Officers spotted a car speeding off from the scene as they arrived and they began pursuing the vehicle, calling in the Philadelphia Police helicopter for assistance.

The chopper followed the car through Northeast Philly as he weaved through traffic on Roosevelt Boulevard and ended up in a residential neighborhood, officials said.

The suspects jumped out of the car on Nester Street and began running, said police, who quickly caught up to the duo.

Both victims and witnesses identified the pair.

Authorities continue to investigate.

A New Jersey man has been accused of molesting a 7-year-old boy on multiple occasions two years ago, prosecutors say.

Bremel Myrick-Sevillanos, 29, was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child after allegedly assaulting the boy, who is now 9 years old, prosecutors say.

Police began investigating Myrick-Sevillanos after the boy recently told his parents about being molested, prosecutors say.

It’s not clear how Myrick-Sevillanos had access to the child.

Bail for Myrick-Sevillanos was set at $400,000. Attorney information for the man wasn't immediately available.

Christie on Presidential Run: "I Have Not Made This Decision Yet"

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says he hasn’t decided whether he will run for president in 2016 but said if he does make a bid for the White House he’s going to “do it honestly” and “won’t give up” his identity.

Speaking exclusively with Matt Lauer in a New Hampshire ice cream parlor on NBC’s “Today,” Christie said he plans to make a decision about whether he will seek the Republican party’s nomination for president in the next couple of months.

“We’re still going through the really personal personal part of this decision,” Christie said. “You don’t want to rush this decision. You do that in the time that it takes.”

Though Christie hasn’t announced a campaign, he has spent several days in New Hampshire, which holds a presidential primary a week after the Iowa caucuses, holding town halls.

He said if he does run, he won’t change his boisterous personality to do it.

“If I decide I want to do this, I’m going to do it honestly, and I'm going to go at as hard as I can and try to win every day,” he said. “I will never give being who I am, because that's a thing that stays with you forever."

Christie was once considered a presidential frontrunner for the GOP, but his popularity waned in the wake of the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal. The governor was never implicated in the traffic-jamming political payback scheme, but he saw his popularity dissipate in the Garden State and across the country in the aftermath of the scandal.

“I don’t think anybody likes to have something like that happen on their watch,” Christie said. “There's no way that it doesn't affect you. In part because it happens and in part because of the incredible coverage it’s gotten.”

Christie added that he is comfortable with his approval ratings, which plummeted both in New Jersey and nationally after news broke about the politically-motivated lane closures. He said that, if he runs for office again, he’ll be comfortable not being a frontrunner.

"Poll numbers go up and go down based on your performance and I am far, far from finished with my career,” he told Lauer.

Though he didn’t announce a run for the Oval Office, Christie weighed in on presidential candidates from both parties.

He told Lauer he believed that the person sworn in to the nation’s highest elected office will be a former governor because that the country has had bad experiences with one-term senators as presidents – an apparent swipe at President Barack Obama, who was elected after one term in the U.S. Senate, and Sens. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Rand Paul, all one-term Republican senators who have announced presidential campaigns.

“I will tell ya this, I think a governor is going to be our nominee,” he said. "I think our party and our country needs someone who has actually run something."
