Friends and family are mourning the Bensalem Police Officer of the Year Kevin Cornish.

Cornish, 42, died Saturday while participating in a 5K Charity Run in Northeast Philadelphia. Officials believe he suffered a heart attack. He leaves behind a wife and daughter.

Detective Cornish was named the Bensalem Township Police Officer of the Year by the Bensalem Rotary Club in 2014.

Cornish joined the Bensalem Police Department in 1998 and was a member of the SWAT team and the Motor Patrol before most recently joining the Special Victim’s Unit.

In addition to his stellar police work, Cornish was also known for his involvement in the community. During a case involving two girls who were removed from an abusive home, Cornish went out of his way to help the young victims. He led a fundraising effort to collect money and gift cards for the girls allowing them to buy clothing, school supplies and accessories for their rooms at their foster home.

He also reached out to local stores to get the girls discounts and even took them on shopping trips. Cornish’s efforts led to a department-wide initiative in which Bensalem police work with local stores to help and collect donations for young abuse victims.

Cornish also volunteered as a coach at the United German Hungarian Club and made presentations in the community on bullying and computer forensics.

Funeral arrangements for Detective Cornish have not yet been released.

Comedian Tracy Morgan is "working hard" on his recovery from a devastating limo bus crash that left him severely injured and killed his friend.

The "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock" alum made the statement to a TMZ paparazzo as he walked with the help of a cane through New York City on Saturday.

Morgan, 46, suffered a traumatic brain injury and a broken leg, ribs and nose on June 7, 2014 when a Wal-Mart tractor trailer slammed into the actor's limousine bus along the New Jersey Turnpike in Cranbury, New Jersey. The bus, which was carrying Morgan and friends from a show at Dover Downs Casino, was stopped in traffic when it was hit. The impact flipped the vehicle.

James McNair, a 62-year-old fellow comedian, was killed in the crash and several other passengers were hurt.

Truck driver Kevin Roper was charged with Death by Auto and related offenses. Police said he was speeding before the impact and hadn't slept in 24 hours. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Morgan spent weeks in the hospital and rehab. He told TMZ he had "no comment" on whether he'll take part in a SNL 40th Anniversary reunion special set to air on NBC on February 15.

A federal lawsuit against Wal-Mart is pending. McNair's family settled a separate suit with the retail giant late last month.

Detectives Revisit Scene of Woman's Bus Stop Murder

Crime scene investigators spent Sunday morning searching for new evidence at the scene of an execution-style murder of a child advocate at a North Philadelphia bus stop last month.

Using a shovel and metal detector, investigators looked for clues that could point them to Kim Jones' murderer.

The 56-year-old newlywed and mother of two was shot in the back of the head as she waited for the Route 23 SEPTA bus at 12th and Jefferson Streets on the morning of January 13.

Investigators returned to that corner at 9:15 a.m. Sunday and dug holes in a patch of grass next to a small memorial for Jones. They also uncovered a manhole and swept the area nearby, including trolley tracks buried in the street, for evidence.

Homicide detectives said the shooter, dressed in all black and wearing headphones, stalked the victim. They waited over an hour outside Jones' home before following her to the corner and pulling the trigger.

Surveillance video captured the shooter calmly place the weapon in a black duffle bag following the shooting and walk away.

"This was a very well planned execution," Philadelphia Police Homicide Capt. James Clark said last month.

Police believe the shooter knew Jones. Sources tell NBC10 they are not ruling out the possibility that a woman may have been holding the gun.

After sweeping the scene again, detectives traveled some 20 blocks south to Philadelphia Police Headquarters where sources say they are questioning people who knew Jones.

Sources said investigators hope to make an arrest soon.

Jamison, a rescued pup from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, will be one of the adorable doggies featured in Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl Sunday.

"I don’t care about the Super Bowl, but we’ll be watching the Puppy Bowl," Head of New Life Animal Rescue Kim Mangione told Burlington County Times. “We watch it every year, but this year we’ll be watching Jamison. We know he’ll do great.”

The pit bull-terrier mix was rescued by Animal Care and Control Team in Philadelphia when he was less than three weeks old. Soon after, he was transferred to New Life Animal Rescue suffering from worms, seizures, cigarette burns and a variety of maladies.

The Evesham-based shelter took the three-pound pooch to Mount Laurel Animal Hospital, where he was promptly treated.

When Animal Planet contacted the shelter about any playful puppy candidates, Mangione recommended Jamison and submitted pictures and video.

The Puppy Bowl is taped in October, but airs every year on Super Bowl Sunday.

If you’re unfamiliar, here’s all you need to know -- it’s a small field filled with puppies and toys. The event is live-tweeted by a bird and features kittens during half-time. It’s the kind of adorable that makes hearts explode with joy.

Tune in this Sunday at 3 p.m.

Looking to unclog his potato-stuffed toilet, a Delaware County, Pennsylvania man decided to try and get help by pulling his apartment building's fire alarm.

It was a poor decision.

The man, who has not yet been identified, pulled the alarm at 7:48 a.m. Sunday at the Oakwood Apartments along the 8700 block of West Chester Pike in Upper Darby, police tell NBC10.

According to authorities, for an unknown reason, the man shoved potatoes down the toilet causing it to clog. He called the apartment building's maintenance department several times for help, but they didn't immediately respond. So he tried to get their attention by pulling the fire alarm, police said.

The three-story building was evacuated and police and fire officials came to the scene to investigate.

Realizing there was not a real emergency, they questioned the man who explained what happened. Police placed him under arrest for ringing the false alarm.

He will be charged in the case, police said.
