Cryptic Message Adds Mystery to Deadly Fall

A cryptic message raised questions about what led to the death of a Temple University freshman who died after falling from a Center City high-rise Thursday evening.

"It was intentional."

That's what Rebecca "Becca" Kim apparently posted to her Facebook page shortly before falling eight stories to her death.

Kim struck another woman walking outside the H&M store on the 1600 block of Chestnut Street.

Shoppers and pedestrians watched in horror as Kim slipped and fell off the window ledge of an apartment building and landed on top of the 44-year-old leaving the pedestrian with a broken vertebrae and missing teeth.

"This is surreal to me," said a witness. "I can't even believe it."

The pre-pharmacy student was visiting friends who attend the Art Institute of Philadelphia when she fell.

Friends said "Becca" went out onto the ledge to take photos and that a friend asked her to come back inside right before she fell.

The exact circumstances around Kim's death remained under investigation Friday.

Tolly Returns to Stand in Fraud Trial

While not as exciting as Thursday's alleged blood sugar attack, Friday's continuation of the trial of Don Tollefson attempted to delve deeper into the fraud charges against the disgraced sportscaster.

However, much of the content proved to be mostly repetitive.

Looking a little desperate, a hospital bracelet around his wrist, Tollefson continued to assert his innocence as prosecutor Matthew Weintraub wrapped up his cross examination. However it was not before the two had an argument over how to pronounce each other's last names.

Tollefson stuck by his claim of bad business practices and said that he will spend the rest of his life paying back the hundreds of thousands of dollars he owes to donors, ticket vendors (William Penn Tickets), and online payment systems (PayPal).

He spent most of the afternoon attempting to refute Weintraub's accusations, particularly in terms of using charitable funds for his own personal use. Tollefson wanted to prove that all of his expenses were connected to Winning Ways, the "passion of his life."

For instance, he claimed that lawn care services he had paid for with nonprofit funds was not for his personal home, but on a property he owns in Chester County. He said that, before his financial problems, he hoped to convert the acre and a half property into a foster home or recovery house.

Many financial numbers were thrown around by the accused and his defense — Tollefson is representing himself — devolved into rambling and repetition at times.

"I'm tired of me," said a bemused Tollefson at the end of his lengthy redirect.

He also called Robert and Jane Landau, a husband and wife who attended the 2012 London Olympics with Winning Ways, as witnesses. Their testimony was meant to shed a positive light on the charity's programming.

The court will reconvene on Tuesday morning when Tollefson will question up to nine more witnesses. The judge announced that both sides should anticipate presenting their closing statements to the jury.

Neighbors watched in horror as a woman stopped in the middle of a Burlington County, New Jersey, road and set fire to a young child late Friday night.

Medics rushed to Simontown Road near Magnolia Road in Pemberton Township, New Jersey shortly before 11 p.m. to find the baby severely burned, police said.

Officials airlifted the child, who was alive at the time, to St. Christopher's Hospital in Philadelphia, authorities said.

Crews also transported a woman, who witnesses say was the person who lit the child on fire, to Deborah Hospital.

Investigators have yet to confirm whether the injured woman -- who is approximately 22-years-old -- is a suspect. It is unclear what her relationship is to the child.

The conditions of the baby and the woman are unknown.

A former Penn State football player who recovered from a devastating spinal cord injury is headed to New Jersey's statehouse as an assemblyman.

Adam Taliaferro won the Democratic Party endorsement Thursday to fill a vacancy created when Assemblywoman Celeste Riley stepped down from the southern New Jersey post to serve as Cumberland County clerk.

Vacated legislative seats in New Jersey are filled by the political party that controls the seat.

Taliaferro was paralyzed in 2000 during a Penn State-Ohio State game after tackling an opponent. Doctors predicted a small chance of walking again but he recovered in four months.

Taliaferro was elected to the Gloucester County Board of Freeholders in 2011.

At least one Delaware police officer knows how to shake off the stress of the job! A patrol car dashcam caught a nearly 20-year veteran of the force lip-syncing and head bopping to Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off."

The video, posted by the Dover Police Department to YouTube, shows Master Cpl. Jeff Davis enthusiastically singing along to the pop star's hit single -- his performance punctuated by eye rolls and hand gestures.

"My ex-man brought his new girlfriend... and to the fella over there with the hella good hair," mouthed clean-shaven Davis as he fluffed his imaginary locks.

The department made the video, which police leaders said is meant to humanize officers, live Friday and it has already been viewed more than 150,000 times.

3 Brothers Never Arrived at Philly School

The father of three boys, ranging in age from 6- to 9-years-old, last saw his sons Friday morning as they walked to their West Philly school -- which is only a block from his home.

Nine-year-old Zair Bell, and his brothers, Yashua, 7, and Naziyr, 6, were heading to the James Rhoads Elementary School at 49th and Parrish streets around 8:15 a.m. Friday when they were last seen by their father, police said.

When the dad, who is in an ongoing custody dispute with his ex-wife, went to the school around 4 p.m. to pick the boys up, school officials said the three brothers never arrived that morning, authorities said.

The West Philly man tried to contact the boys' mother, but has been unable to reach her, officials said.

Their father said he believes the children, of 800 North 50th Street, are with their mom, but no witnesses saw her take them, investigators said.

Their father has primary custody of one of his sons and partial custody of the other two.

Police said Zair, the eldest boy, is 3-feet 7 inches tall and about 75 pounds; Yashua is 3-feet 5-inches tall and about 65 pounds; and Naziyr is 3-feet 2-inches tall and about 50 pounds.

Zair was wearing a brown coat and black sneakers; Yashua was wearing a blue and gray coat, and white and black sneakers; and Naziyr was wearing an orange, white and blue coat, and white sneakers, investigators said.

All three had yellow shirts and blue khakis on, according to authorities.

Anyone with information on the children's whereabouts is urged to contact Philadelphia Police Department's Southwest Detectives at 215-686-3183 or 911.

Greenhowe is being held at Grady Memorial Hospital. It was unclear Saturday whether he had an attorney.

Revenge Prompted Pa. Man to Set Fire That Killed 6: Police

A man set a Pittsburgh-area fire that killed six people last fall, four of them children, because he wanted to get revenge on someone in the house, according to authorities.

Ryan Williams, 24, was charged Friday with six counts of criminal homicide, arson and burglary in the Oct. 18 fire in McKeesport. The blaze killed 55-year-old Ronald Egenlauf Sr., his 27-year-old daughter-in-law Hope Jordan, and her four children, ages 2 through 7.

Detectives allege in a criminal complaint that Williams set the fire because he partially blamed the fire's lone survivor, Keith Egenlauf, for his incarceration in a theft case. Keith Egenlauf was the older man's son and Jordan's husband.

According to the criminal complaint, one witness quoted Williams as saying he went into the unlocked house and "lit a roll of toilet paper on fire and threw it on the couch." That witness also quoted Williams as saying "I just did some crazy (expletive). I'm out on my porch waiting for the fire trucks,'" on a phone call during which the witness could hear sirens in the background.

Another witness reported begin awakened early on the day after the fire by Williams, who allegedly told him that he had just "lit Keith's house on fire, and if anybody asks, I was here all night," the criminal complaint said.

One of the witnesses told investigators that Williams began to cry after finding out from news reports that children had died in the fire, saying he believed Keith Egenlauf lived there alone.

Asked Friday whether he knew children were inside the house, Williams told WPXI-TV, "No, I did not," but he declined further comment. Court documents don't list an attorney for him.

Ronald Egenlauf, who was partially paralyzed and used a wheelchair, was found dead on the first floor. The other victims were found in a second-floor bedroom.

Authorities said Keith Egenlauf and his wife had initially escaped the flames but raced back inside in hopes of rescuing their family. Keith Egenlauf was left with burns over half his body.

Dawn McPherson, 37, Jordan's sister, said Williams deserves no mercy if convicted.

"I hope he can't sleep at night," McPherson said. "I hope he's haunted for the rest of his life. I hope God gives him everything he deserves."

Another relative, Lisa Lakenan, said family members were still struggling with the deaths.

"We just can't wrap our minds around how someone decides to burn a house down with seven people in it," she said.

Immigrant Mom Allowed to Stay in U.S. Leaves Church

An immigrant mother who was granted a temporary reprieve to stay in the U.S. left the Philadelphia church she had been living in for the past two months Saturday.

"It's a huge load off my mind," Angela Navarro told NBC10 through a translator. "I don't have words for it."

Navarro lived at the West Kensington Ministry with her husband and two children in order to avoid deportation. Immigration authorities issued the order more than 10 years ago, when Navarro was 17. She had been picked up while illegally entering the United States from Honduras.

Navarro is now married to an American citizen and has two U.S.-born children.

Navarro sought refuge Nov. 18 at West Kensington, vowing not to leave until the order was lifted. Authorities generally don't pursue enforcement actions in places of worship.

Navarro's supporters said Thursday her removal order was suspended for two years.

"It was super important because I didn't know if there was a way out," Navarro said. "And I'm glad I decided to seek sanctuary and that we won."

Navarro's attorney, Patricia Luber, has fought the deportation since the beginning.

"From woman to woman, she's an amazing human being," Luber said. "Legally, we move to reopen her case and we can with the peace of mind that she's protected for the next two years without being deported while that's going on."
