Two brothers were arrested early Sunday after one of them was caught trespassing on the roof of an apartment complex in Rehoboth Beach.

The roofs of two Narberth businesses collapsed Wednesday morning after a fire tore through the commercial properties, forcing officials to close a busy roadway in Lower Merion Township.

The blaze broke out in a storefront  -- the future home of Main Line Cycles -- along the 900 block of Montgomery Avenue, near Price Avenue, in the suburban Philly neighborhood around 4:30 a.m., authorities said.

The flames spread to another nearby business, Fast Signs, as firefighters continued to battle the fire, officials said.

Montgomery Avenue was shut down in both directions between Old Gulph Road and Brookhurst Avenue fas crews worked to contain the blaze.

Drivers were diverted onto neighborhood roads and then directed to Lancaster Avenue (Route 30). Officials began allowing one lane of traffic to pass in each direction around 8:30 a.m., although motorists should expect some residual delays.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, although Lower Merion Fire Chief Charles McGarvey Sr.  indicated it may have been an electrical fire.

Heavy smoke and flames were first spotted near electrical lines, McGarvey said.

There are no reported injuries.

President Obama may nominate former Deputy Secretary of Defense, Ashton Carter, to take the helm as the new Secretary of Defense as early as Friday, according to reports.

Carter, an expert physicist with long term service in the Pentagon, also has local ties. Carter reportedly grew up in Montgomery County and graduated from Abington High School. He was inducted into his alma mater's Hall of Fame in 1989.

Carter is also a Rhodes scholar and a faculty member at Harvard University.

If nominated, Carter would fill the seat recently left vacant by former Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel. Hagel resigned from his position in November, after only two years in the job.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest lauded Carter as a potential nominee, but declined to confirm whether he would be the president's official choice.

A pickup truck struck a high schooler walking along one of Philadelphia’s busiest roadways Wednesday morning.

The crash along the northbound lanes of the Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. Route 1) near Ryan Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia around 7 a.m. left the unidentified teenage girl with a broken leg, said Philadelphia Police.

Following the crash in the outer lanes, the driver stopped and medics took the teen to Aria Torresdale Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Police didn’t reveal what school the girl attends. And, investigators also didn’t reveal if she was headed to school at the time.

One of the girl's shoes remained on the rain-slicked roadway following the crash. After the crash a pickup truck remained on the scene as police investigated.

The outer lanes of the roadway remained closed as accident investigators searched for a cause of the crash.

Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon is selling his 4,200-square-foot Rittenhouse condominium for $6.9 million just over two years after acquiring it.

The lush space offers services similar to a hotel with a 24-hour concierge, business center and a fitness center. The fiery reliever acquired the lavish condo in 2012 for two million less than his current asking price.

The condo at 1706 Rittenhouse had been recognized as one of five finalists to compete for Urban Land Institute’s Award for Excellence: The Americas Competition in 2011.

“1706 Rittenhouse is simply in a class by itself in Philadelphia luxury residential properties,” said the property’s listing.

The building offers 31 apartments -- just one per floor.

Papelbon signed a $50 million contract a year before purchasing the fancy condo. No word if the sale of the condo could mean Papelbon's days in Philly are numbered.

Reward Climbs to $31K in Search for Shane

The suburban Philly university is holding a candlelight vigil Wednesday in support of the search for Shane Montgomery, the 21-year-old who went missing early Thanksgiving morning, as the reward money for clues to his whereabouts climbs to $31,000.

Classmates of the 21-year-old West Chester University senior plan to gather outside the Sykes Student Union Wednesday at 6 p.m. for a candlelight vigil. If it rains, the event will be moved indoors.

The vigil comes nearly a week after family members first reported Shane missing -- and on the same day volunteers plan to replace flyers destroyed by recent rain in the area.

The Roxborough native was last seen around 1:45 a.m. Thursday when he was asked to leave Kildare's Irish Pub on Main Street in Manayunk. Kildare's management confirmed Shane's parents account -- the missing student was "polite" and "respectful" when he left and did not appear intoxicated.

Philadelphia police do not suspect foul play, although his disappearance is considered suspicious. Authorities have used K-9s, helicopters and marine units to search Manayunk and Roxborough, as well as the Schuylkill River, which borders Main Street.

The FBI joined the search efforts Saturday and posted digital billboards over the holiday weekend in hopes of locating Shane. The federal organization's task force is often involved when a missing persons case has "suspicious circumstances," an FBI spokesperson said.

Despite the efforts of local and federal authorities, as well as family and friends, the Roxborough native remained missing Wednesday morning.

Volunteers plan to meet at St. John the Baptist Catholic church on Rector Street in Manayunk Wednesday so they can post new flyers with Shane's photo throughout the area where he was last seen.

Contributions from the Student Government Association at West Chester University and a suburban Philly bar, The Grog, located in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County, upped the reward total to $31,000 from $25,000, according to a post on the Help Find Shane Montgomery Facebook page.

Shane, who weighs about 140 pounds and stands 5-foot-11-inches tall, was wearing a buttoned- down gray shirt, gray hoodie and jeans when he left the bar. He also has a unique Celtic cross tattoo on his shoulder.

"We're waiting for him to walk in the door, but you realize that each hour goes... it's just harder and harder," said Kevin Montgomery, Shane's father.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia Police at 215-686-3353/54 or the FBI at 215-418-4000.

Ex-Montco Teacher Admits to Sex With Student

A Philadelphia woman and former Montgomery County math teacher admitted Tuesday that she had sex with an underage student and sent sexually-explicit photos and videos to the boy.

Former Lower Moreland High School teacher Erica Ann Ginnetti, 34, pleaded guilty to institutional sexual assault and disseminating obscene and other sexual materials to a minor.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said the relationship between Ginnetti and the student began in May 2013 when Ginnetti approached the boy at prom and asked him if he would like to work out at her gym. A few days later the boy allegedly emailed Ginnetti and she replied with her cellphone number.

Ferman said that after that the two communicated on a regular basis over several months. During that time, investigators said that Ginnetti sent a series of sexually-charged messages, including videos of herself undressing and performing sex acts on herself as well as “sexually-suggestive” photos of Ginnetti in her underwear and a bikini.

Investigators said the two met up at a coffee shop in July 2013 in Northeast Philadelphia. From there they went to a nearby industrial park on the border with Lower Moreland Township and had sex in Ginnetti's car, according to the police report. Ginnetti then drove the teen back to the coffee shop, investigators said, and asked him not to tell anyone about the incident.

According to investigators, Ginnetti admitted to having sex with the teenage boy after officials became aware of the relationship.

Lower Moreland police said they were tipped off via a phone line used for reporting possible abuses against children. The caller left a message saying they'd overhead students at the school talking about "inappropriate pictures of the minor and the teacher doing 'sexual things.'" Investigators then approached the 17-year-old who gave them a detailed account of how the relationship began and then evolved, police said.

According to her teaching page, Ginnetti taught AP Calculus, AP Statistics, Calculus and Honor Algebra at Lower Moreland.

Following Ginnetti's January 2014 arrest, the Lower Moreland Township School District suspended then fired the teacher.

Ginnetti pleaded guilty to only two of the 13 counts she originally faced, according to court records. She remains out of jail on bail awaiting sentencing. She faces up to seven years behind bars when she is sentenced, according to prosecutors.

As part of her bail conditions, Ginnetti was not permitted to have contact with any children except for her own kids — the eldest of which is a teenager.

Ferguson Die-In Disrupts Rush Hour, Tree Lighting Ceremony

After holding a "die-in" inside Philadelphia's 30th Street Station, more than 100 demonstrators  marched through the streets of Center City Wednesday afternoon protesting a grand jury's decision not to indict former Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson.

The group In Defense of Black Bodies invited hundreds of demonstrators to meet in the Amtrak station's Grand Hall at 3:45 p.m. in anticipation of the "die-in" protest. In such protests, participants drop to the ground in unison.

Some began to lay down early, but the official event took place at 4:15 p.m. Nonblack protesters were asked to sit in solidarity, but not lay down, the group wrote in their Facebook event.

Demonstrators will were down on the ground for 4 minutes and 30 seconds signifying the time Michael Brown's body was on the ground -- 4 hours and 30 minutes -- following his deadly altercation with Wilson, the group said.

Once the time was up, the group left the station and walked along Schuylkill Avenue toward the I-76 on-ramp. Police on bikes blocked the ramp and protesters yelled at the officers for preventing them from entering the highway. They chanted "Black Lives Matter" and "Hands Up. Don't Shoot."

After about five minutes, the group turned around and began making their way towards Philadelphia City Hall. At 16th Street, the group turned north and west toward the Vine Street Expressway at 22nd Street.

Again, police blocked off the on-ramp. Protesters could be heard chanting "Mike Brown" and "I can't breathe" referencing a New York grand jury's decision on Wednesday not to indict a NYPD officer in the chokehold death of Eric Garner.

Protesters made it to City Hall around 5:30 p.m. and moved into the courtyard where the city's Christmas tree is. They chanted "Shut it down" and drowned out a girl singing "Silent Night." She eventually stopped singing prompting cheers from the crowd. Other performances were also drowned out. The lighting of the tree, however, happened as planned at 7:55 as protesters looked on.

Police tell NBC10 that the protests, while tense at times, remained peaceful with only one arrest when a man tried to hop a fence to get closer to the Christmas tree. Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey considered how his officers handled the protesters and lighting a "success."

"Our job is to see to it that they can protest and at the same time, families that want to come down and see the Christmas tree lit have a chance to do that," said Ramsey.

A number of group members posted photos and videos to social networks showing the protests, but the Philadelphia Police Department could also be seen filming the demonstrations.

Michael Brown, 18, was killed after being shot several times by Wilson on Aug. 9. Wilson said Brown assaulted him, but the teen's family and some witnesses dispute that. A grand jury declined to indict Wilson in the case last week prompting violent riots in Ferguson. Several demonstrations have taken place in Philly since in addition to other cities.

Shootout Outside Day Care Leaves 3 Men Hurt

A middle-of-the-day argument between two groups of young men across the street from a Philadelphia day care center left three people shot.

The incident began around 11:30 a.m. at 54th Street and Paschall Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia, said Philadelphia police.

Surveillance video showed eight young men standing at the intersection arguing, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot three guys trying to get away toward Gray Avenue. At least one other man pulled out a weapon, said police. Three young men were struck.

Four of the men, including three of the gunshot victims, dipped into the nearby Estevez Mini Market where someone called 911. All three victims — a 19-, 20- and 21-year-old — were rushed to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania — one in critical condition. Investigators said they expect all the victims to survive, police said.

Since it was a rainy day, no children were outside the nearby Woodland Academy Day Care Center at the time of the shooting. No children were hurt. The center alerted parents about what happened.

Police recovered a handgun and marked the bullet casings over the one block where the shooting took place. They hope that someone comes forward to identify the gunmen.

"The public out here needs to alarmed to these behaviors," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector John Walker. "They know who these individuals are."
