Chilly Change Could Bring Wintry Weather

Hold on tight because a big change is coming in the NBC10 First Alert Weather forecast that could bring snow, sleet and/or freezing rain to parts of the greater Philadelphia region.

Step outside Monday and you wouldn't believe nasty weather could be on the way. Temperatures on Monday pushed into the 60s — well above the normal high of around 50 degrees — with a chance of spotty, light showers in the evening.

Overnight is when the major change comes as temps might not break 40 on Tuesday with winds increasing to make it feel like below freezing in some areas.

“It’s going to be a dramatic drop in temperatures,” said NBC10 First Alert Weather meteorologist Brittney Shipp. “People are going to wake up to cold air.”

And they could wind up driving home in a wintry mix — especially north and west, said Shipp.

Rain is expected to develop during the day Tuesday with sleet possible north and west of the city and even some snow in high terrains and the Poconos, said Shipp.

The National Weather Service had yet to issue any advisories or warnings for any Philadelphia area counties by midday Monday, but did issue a Hazardous Weather Outlook calling for “the potential for a light accumulation of snow and sleet on Tuesday followed by the possibility of freezing rain on Tuesday night.”

Motorists should also prepare to give themselves some extra time to get around as slippery roadways could slow traffic especially after the evening rush.

“Some of our temperatures at the surface will be right at freezing but there will be warm air coming in… so that combination could produce freezing rain and that means slick spots Tuesday night,” said Shipp.

Don’t expect anything that falls to last too long on the ground as temps are expected to push back up around 50 as the wet weather moves out Wednesday morning.

A family got back their beloved "Peanuts" Christmas decorations, but the "Grinches" who took the hand-painted items over the weekend remain on the loose.

Three wooden “Peanuts”-themed decorations that were stolen from the front lawn of a home in the Magnolia section of Gloucester Township, New Jersey over the weekend turned up on the front step of a man's Somerdale, New Jersey home just hours later, The Gloucester Township Police Department posted to Facebook Monday morning.

After going missing sometime after 9 p.m. Saturday, Pig Pen, Marcie and Peppermint Patty were discovered by 11 p.m. that same night, police said. A man called the Somerdale Police Department after two young men in a white vehicle pulled up to his home, left the decorations on the front step and rang the doorbell before quickly leaving the scene.

Somerdale Police then returned the decorations to the owner.

With the "Peanuts" decorations found, police diverted their attention from recovering the items to capturing the people who took the decorations. If you have any information on the theft, please call the Gloucester Township Police Department's anonymous tip line at 856-842-5560.

Woman Bites Into $3K Pearl During Philly Feast

Kathleen Morelli's trek to visit family in Philadelphia paid off beyond expectations when she made her traditional stop at a favorite clam shack and bit into a little neck with a rare pearl.

"I bit down and I pulled it out and said, 'Look at this,'" Morelli told Delmarvanow.com.

Morelli lives in Virginia Beach and whenever she comes up to see her sister in Philly, she pops into the Great Machinpongo Clam Shack in Nassawadox, Va. to grab some clams for steaming. During the Philly feast with family, Morelli bit into a clam and found the pearl. At first, she didn't think much of the 4-1/2 carat gem, but saved it to show her husband when she got home.

"We just enjoyed looking at it," Morelli said.

When her husband decided to figure out what the purple pearl might be worth, he realized it was a pricey and a rare find.

"From what I've read, one in 5,000 clams will grow a pearl. When you're talking anything of decent size, it's much more unusual," Joe Morelli said, adding his wife's pearl may just be a one-in-a-million find.

Kathleen Morelli's not really a "pearl" person when it comes to jewelry, so she's planning to cash in on her big catch, which could bring about $3,000. Not bad she says, for a $15 bag of clams.

Cosby Resigns from Temple's Board of Trustees

Bill Cosby resigned Monday from Temple University's Board of Trustees, a position he has held since 1982.

Cosby's resignation came as trustees were prepared to meet and discuss his connections to the university and as alumni pressured Temple through a change.org petition to sever ties.

Twenty women have now accused Cosby of sexual assault, bringing his legacy and connections under intense scrutiny. The comedian has denied the allegations repeatedly and he has not been charged with any crime.

"I have always been proud of my association with Temple University," Cosby said in a brief statement to fellow trustees. "I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the University and its students. As a result, I have tendered my resignation from temple University Board of Trustees."

Board chairman and attorney Patrick J. O'Connor said in an email to Cosby and other board members that the board had accepted Cosby's resignation and thanked him for his service.

He called Cosby's decision to resign a "noble thing" and referred to the comedian a "beacon of light" for the university during a phone call with NBC10's George Spencer.

[Cosby] "did the right thing for his love of this school," said O'Connor.

Connor had defended Cosby in a civil suit filed by a former Temple basketball employee who accused Cosby of molesting her at his suburban Philadelphia mansion a year earlier. Cosby and the woman settled the lawsuit. More than a dozen other women have come forward since the lawsuit was filed to make similar claims, including several who have gone public this month.

Cosby is arguably Temple's most famous alum.

After flunking out of Philadelphia's Central High School and getting his GED in the Navy, Cosby was given an athletic scholarship to Temple. In August, when the school honored him for his writing skills, it memorialized an essay Cosby wrote about Temple's impact on his life and in particular, how he felt during his freshman year when an English teacher selected his paper to read to the class.

"This experience lifted me. It showed me that I had something to say, and that I could make a connection with people," Cosby said.

The 77-year-old entertainer has helped raise millions of dollars for the school. His most recent fund raising effort is with a campaign to raise $100 million to help make college more affordable.
